  1. One of these years I'll have to come up and take a ride. My brothers and I have been talking about it for years. What's the best time of year to fish The Rock?
  2. I figured it was a relative when I saw his name. It's all about who you know and what you know. I don't know anyone or anything so I have to do everything myself:D
  3. I will be down there fishing friday afternoon and saturday morning.
  4. Looks good! You will be amazed at how big of a difference it amkes.
  5. Did you try opening it up and pausing it to let it buffer? If not maybe your pop-up blocker or some other app is stopping it. Just a few suggestions, I'm not a computer guru by any means.
  6. Nice fish, great job! Are those atlantics? They look healthy!
  7. These releases are the best I have found for boards, and I've tried about everything.
  8. Paul, I don't pretend to know anything about radio's or antenna's but this is the antenna that I use and I have installed on a few friends' boats. I have had days where I have been able to talk to people up to 20 miles away. All of the people I know who have them have been very happy with the performance. And they are actually economical. Check 'em out: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/producte/10001/-1/10001/223411/377%20710%201407/0/Antennas,%20Mounts,%20Cable/Primary%20Search/mode%20matchallpartial/0/0?N=377%20710%201407&Ne=0&Ntt=Antennas,%20Mounts,%20Cable&Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&page=CategoryDisplayLevel1&isLTokenURL=true&storeNum=5003&subdeptNum=3&classNum=309
  9. I watched the video this morning and it was great. There was a lot of information. The video even talks about specific areas to fish as well as techniques. I have never targeted lakers but after watching the video feel like I would be able to successfully fish for them. The talk about fishing the big lakers over open water was very interesting. Since I live in the country I don't have access to cable internet. The service we are using is running about 54 mbps so what I did was let it play for a while then paused it to let it buffer. Watched for a while until it got toward the end of the area that was buffered, and then paused it again. Worked well for me.
  10. I usually run it on the fast speed, more action settings.
  11. Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like you just need a piece of 1/2" aluminum 5"x6"? If that's all you need it would probably be easier to check with a local machine shop. If you find one that does work with aluminum they should have some 1/2" lying around. If you need the edges machined to fit in the track then I'm not being any help and I apologize.
  12. Tough luck. While they are rebuilding it maybe they shoudl bore it out a little and make it a 350? Just a thought. Did you check into crate or reman engines, might be cheaper.
  13. The only brown I caught last year was on a rigger 20' down with a 30' lead but we have caught them off boards with both outboards and i/o's. I'm no expert but most guys use the main motor. Charters use their big boats. Should be no problem.
  14. Either works for me Mike, but the 30 minute ones might be better if they aren't to much trouble.
  15. Troy, like Jim said you should be able to set any rod at any time. I usually set rods in the morning in the same order as Jim. Riggers, divers then core. But after a fish hits you can reset any rod without pulling another. When setting core I have had the best luck with setting the line straight out the back of the boat. When I reach the backer I attach the board and let it go straight back. When it gets about as far back as I want it to run I engage the lever and let it run out to the side. After a lot of practice and a few tangles I have got it figured out so if I am running 3 boards on a side I can reset the middle one and slide it right in place. I don't suggest trying this your first time out;) You had it right as far as the 5 and 10 colors of core. They are also called a half core and a full core. As far as the Lowrance HD goes I can't recommend it. I haven't run one but people had a lot of problems with them last year. Not to mention the fact that Lowrance customer service is horrible. If you check out the electronics forum there were a couple of threads discussing different units. I run Garmin products but for comparable money and screen size you might want to check out the Humminbird units. They seem to be easy to use and the quality has really improved over the last 10 years. I have heard a lot of good things about them. Looking at the boat I couldn't help but notice there are no rod holders. If you want any suggestions on those I am sure the guys here would be happy to help. They love to spend other people's money:D Let us know if you have any other questions.
  16. Jim, while you can access it easily it might be worth while to inject some penetrating epoxy into that weak spot in the transom. Just drill a couple of small holes and inject it around the area to strengthen it. Should protect it for a couple more years. Just a thought.
  17. The Silver Beach is the one I was thinking of.
  18. That's a nice looking boat. To be honest I don't really stack riggers. There are a lot better methods to add lines. Leadcore and inline boards, as Hotdog suggested, is probably the best way IMO. They get the lures away from the boat. I started with a 5 color and 10 color and caught a ton of fish with them. I usually run spoons and plugs on my riggers and core and flashers on the dipsey's. But that can change. If you can afford it you might want to get a little better reel than the Magda's for your dipsey's. Okuma Convector or Daiwa Sealine bothe have much better drags and you will need them for the dipsey's. You might be able to get away with it on the riggers but one king with an attitude on your dipsey's could smoke a reel in a hurry. I really like the Convector's for leadcore rods, the handle and retrieve ratio are great. As far as ports, all of them can be good. It really depends. I fish out of Muskegon most of the time because it's the closest. But I will go almost anywhere the fish are biting. It depends on where you want to go and how far you want to drive. Good luck and feel free to ask questions.
  19. If you are going from St. Joe to Harrison Township you would probably take 94 across, not 96. I have never done it but I know it's a long drive. If you try to squeeze it in on a 2 day trip you will be driving constantly. I drove over to Wisconsin last year to look at boats and we did it in a weekend. Drove to Racine friday night, got up and looked at boats in Milwaukee and Fond du Lac, then drove home. It was not a fun weekend, purely boat shopping. I can't personally recommend a place to stay in either area but a couple of years ago for the Brown Blast we stayed in a hotel right off the river and it was fine. There was actually a nice little area that had quite a few restaurants and bars. I'll try to find it online.
  20. It's nice to see some guys who fish for the same species and area we do. All that's ever on TV are bass fishermen and southern species like redfish. Too bad these guys aren't on local TV.
  21. They have their own fishing show up in the Duluth area. Too bad we don't get it around here, I'd watch it. http://www.youtube.com/user/JigHeadsTV#p/u/1/2pa_keWYMMc&promo2
