  1. FUBAR As in, "that king went sideways at the back of the boat and now my spread is FUBAR. It'll take forever to untangle this mess!" Sorry, had to.
  2. Good job and thanks for the report. Looks like you might be talking Jon into a walleye trip in his new hometown:)
  3. I guess that's what I am struggling with on the walleye Frank. I know how to narrow down the search when salmon fishing but don't really know what to key on when fishing for walleye. When I head over I'm just driving around hoping to find fish. I'm the first one to admit that I don't know anything about walleye fishing. But I'd like to do a little more of it since I live closer to the Bay than I do Lake Michigan. Plus, soon I will be working in the area. I just try to read the reports you guys post in hopes of learning a few things. Are there specific temps, structure or other things that you try to target at certain times of the year or just go back to where you caught fish the year before? Thanks for the help.
  4. Good job Frank. Quick question for you and the other walleye guys. How did you decide to fish out deep in the 30-33' water that you have been in the lat few days? I'm still trying to figure out how you decide what areas to fish. Hoping to hit the Bay up after the back is better. Thanks.
  5. Thanks for the report Ed.
  6. I bet if you check some of the boat dealers who sell used outboards he could work out a trade. A 15 even up for a 9.9 would be a net gain for them.
  7. Welcome! I think most of us have been in your situation. Let us know if you need any help and good luck this year.
  8. I run Bert's ratcheting holders for dipseys, aluminum trees for board rods, and have Big Jon holders on my riggers. You can get by with plastic rod holders for board rods for a while. But for dipsey's you are asking for trouble. If you are using plastic some kind of tether is a good idea. I'm pretty sure if you check the Lord of the Rigger's site (sponsor) they have some good deals on Big Jon holders.
  9. I also set the dipsey's by loosening the drag. I run 2 per side on occassion and have never had an issue. Inside divers on 1 and outside on 3. And I agree with the plastic holders. A couple of pieces of rope tied on to your dipsey setups will be a good backup for now. I almost lost a dipsey setup on a friends boat when a plastic rod holder broke as a fish hit. There is a lot of pressure on a dipsey setup. Good luck.
  10. Welcome Robert. There are quite a few walleye guys on this board that sometimes have open seats. I'm sure that one of them would be glad to take you along one day and show you the ropes. I wouldn't be much help. To get started you can check out the posts in the walleye section to get some ideas. Good luck.
  11. Sorry guys but not all inland launches are free. Now that I think about it there is a DNR launch on a local lake here that I believe is free. But there are DNR launches on Higgins, Houghton, Mitchell and Cadillac that I have had to pay for in the past. Either way, there is no reason to argue about it because next year all you have to do is pay an extra $10 with your registration and you will be able to use any State Park or Launch. No sticker needed.
  12. Thanks for the report and welcome!
  13. This was my sister's first time out on the big lake too, and she had fun. Here are a few pics: Shelley with our catch Sunset And if you look real close you can see the Half Dozen trolling in the sunset
  14. I guess I have never seen a free launch. I have always paid. This will be the last year for it anyway. Next year they are just asking that everyone who uses a state park or launch pay an extra $10 with their registration. Hopefully it is successful.
  15. Oh yeah, a little tip for you guys. When we were coming in the channel was packed full of alewives and their was cold water in tight. Might want to give the skinny water and river plume a shot if you head out in the next day or two.
  16. That's what I do too Adam.
  17. SLOOOOOOOOOW was the word of the day. We set up in 100', trolled out to 190', back in to 60', back out to 135', and then trolled in to 100' where we pulled lines and headed in. Went 1 for 1 or 2 taking a 7 pound king on a Blue Dolphin on a full core in 105' toward sun set. My crew claimed that an SWR 60' down with a Caramel Dolphin bounced a few times but I never saw it. There was cold water all over up there but hardly marked a fish until sundown. Shelley did catch her first fish of the year, and first ever on a full core, so that was good. But my sister didn't get a chance at a fish on her first time out. She did enjoy the boat ride though. Talked to Sixshooter and Tadpole while we were out there. I won't give you their reports but will tell you they had fewer fish than us:) I'm on the shelf for the next 4-6 weeks so I hope you guys have a good summer. I'll post a few picks we got later.
  18. I don't use the super glue to hold the knot, just to stiffen the the braid so you can thread it into the dacron. That way you don't need to use a needle.
  19. Taking the wife and my sister out tonight. Plan on fishing out of Whitehall, looks like there might be some colder water stacked behind Little Point. This is my sister's first trip out on the big lake. Hopefully it goes good because if it does she is going to let my nephew go out. Anyway, if anyone is out in that area tonight feel free to give me a shout on 68.
  20. I use a piece of mono between the braid and core but if you don't want to do that you can try putting super glue on the braid. That makes it stiff enough that you can thread it into the leadcore sheath and tie the Willis knot.
  21. Thanks for the report Captain Ron. June showed up a little bit early this year.
  22. Good job and welcome! Best report I have seen all weekend.
