  1. I would have to go and look for sure but I think I use 1/0 on standard and 2/0 on magnum spoons. Gamakatsu open eye siwash. I have been very happy with my hook-up to land ratio and they are much easier to deal with once the fish are in the boat. Also, it only takes 1/3 of the time to sharpen.
  2. Good job. How'd you guys do in the tourney Randy?
  3. Welcome! Let us know if you need any help.
  4. Looks like you already got plenty of good advice. I have run 2 dispeys and 3 boards on a side and not had a tangle. And my inside board will be a fullcore with a divebomb on it and not get into the dipsey. The easiest way to set a dipsey is to back off the drap and let it work it's way out. That way is gets depth and goes sideways at an even rate. While you are letting it out you can set other rods. It's a good job to give a beginner or kid, just have them watch it and tell you when it gets to whatever reading you want, then go over and adjust the drag back. I can usually get both riggers set by the time the dipsey's are deployed.
  5. Did a dive curve come with the divers? If not you might want to check a Precision Trolling book to figure out how far to let them back. I am no walleye pro but I was reading an article earlier this year that said if you are trolling between 1-1.5 mph (a normal walleye speed) that a 1 oz inline weight will go down 1' for every 2' of line you let out on average. To me that seems like a simple way to organize your gear. Get a few 1 oz inline weights and attach the crawler harness directly behind it. Then when you figure out how deep you want to be just double it and you should be in the ballpark. And I agree with Ken, it makes no sense to have a leader that is 1/3 the strength of the harness line.
  6. There is a small creek that runs into the Lake right by the RAM. Rainbow Creek. If you take a boat try fishing in front of the creek along the dropoff. It usually attracts fish. Might be a few perch or rock bass over there too. You can easily row out to the dropoff there. The lake is really warm for Higgins this time of year. I might be going up sunday to see my nieces but I won't be fishing.
  7. Catfishhoge caught a big catfish on a full core with a J-plug last year out of Muskegon in 100' of water.
  8. There isn't really a shore fishery up there in the summer Jim. If you took your pontoon you could get up early and try some surface flies for browns and bows along the drop off. Check the Grayling fly fishing reports and see what is hatching right now. During the week would be better than a weekend. We always see trout feeding on the surface in the morning and evening but the boat traffic scares them away during the day. A minnow under a bobber or spawn sack floating 6' or so off the bottom could catch fish also.
  9. I caught a 15" Rock Bass trolling for brown's on Higgins Lake. Hit a J-12 Rapala and pulled the inline board back. Had the treble buried in it's mouth.
  10. Very cool Jim. So what are your Top 5 producers? Also, I have heard of guys running them backwards, do you do that at all? I have never run one but since you are offering such a good deal I would like to give them a shot.
  11. I agree Mark. I have the coverage also but haven't had to use it. It's nice to know it's there if I do.
  12. I haven't used them but I know guys who have and they have been very happy with the response time.
  13. I think it's always worthwhile to fish with other people occassionally. Good to see what other people do and pick up a few new tricks. Sounds like you guys had a good time.
  14. Good job Capt. Dick. What speed do you run when you are pulling spoons? Looks like you have been busy.
  15. The rods will bounce around a lot. No big deal. The best way to tell if you have a fish on one is to keep your drag set light. When a fish hits you will be able to hear the clicker. Another way to tell is that the board will usually start pulling funny. If it's a good fish it will usually go inside toward the middle of the boat.
  16. I think it's great. How many times have you picked someone up in the morning and they don't have a license? I know we have been to the Meijer in Ludington a few times at 4 am.
  17. Matt (bluedevil) just bought a new Garmin unit this year. I think he bought a smaller one. When he first got it I know he was impressed but haven't talked to him lately.
  18. Good job Jim. Glad the boat is running good for you again.
  19. Boy Jon, you just get set up for salmon fishing and now you'll have to buy a bunch of walleye gear. Just look at what Ken and Ryan got you into!
