The double glow is an all white plug. It is great first thing in the morning. I have run the green and blue spatterback with success before. Chrome and green scaly back have worked well too.

Congrats Dave! If you get the Bert's tracks from Jim check out Northwoods Wholesale Outfitters in Pinconning. They have Bert's holders for $50 each. They have a website if you don't want to drive. I might have a few things that I could stand to get rid of, I'll take a look. I just sold a few things otherwise I'd have more. Good luck on getting it all set up, that's half the fun.

Terry's new ride is blue I believe. Still haven't seen it in person. -
Agree with everything already said. One thing that has always worked for me is a chrome/redhead J-plug on sunny days. It works great off a deep rigger either straight or off an SWR. I usually tie the harness to the line so the plug can ride up the line. I also started tieing my own harnesses last year with 60# braid and a single treble that hangs just behind the end of the plug.

I was on vacation all week up in Leland. The weather didn't cooperate so we weren't able to fish up there but thursday night the wife and I headed down to Frankfort where we met my wife's friend and her husband who were in Ludington. Headed out about 6 pm and set up in 85' on a south troll. Trolled down to the Herring Hole then turned north and ended up just south of the point as the sun set. Ended up 6/6 on a nice calm night. Glad to have someone along to do all the heavy lifting for me. Here's what worked: Fullcore w/ SS Blue Frog-10# Laker (released) Fullcore w/ Mag Blue Chilly Willy-8# Steelie and dink king Rigger 50' down w/ SS Pink Panties-dink king Rigger 45' down w Moonshine Moonshine-dink king Wire diver 125' out on 2 w/ Blue Spatterback SD and Alewife Rapture Fly-13# King The king hit just after sunset and it took my wife's friend about 20 minutes to get in. Not a bad night considering I was pretty much fishing blind since I didn't have internet connection all week and it had been 4 years since I've been to Frankfort. I have a couple of pictures I'll post later.

I switched the front releases on my boards to the Offshore OR-18. It is the best clip I have found. I also use an Offshore Snap Weight clip in the back. It is the OR-16 I think. This is an easy, never fail setup. That being said, I still splice in a piece of mono to connect the board to. It is easier to check for any damage and holds the clip better.

Thanks Steve! Ever get your fishfinder issues worked out?

Yeah, if you can find quality used rods and reels that is a good idea. All of my diver reels I bought used. I had 2 Sealines that were used, got them for half price. I replaced them with Tekota's this year, also got them used for half price. My braid divers are Convector's which I also got used for half price. It is easier to find used reels during the offseason though when guys are upgrading. You can usually find deals on rods. I just bought a pair of Daiwa Heartland dipsey rods, they were last years models and I got them for $15 each. It's also a good idea to check your local tackle shops. A lot of times you can find rod and reel combos all spooled up that can be very reasonable. Saves you the trouble of having to do it yourself. I wouldn't recommend buying rods online if you have to pay shipping. That can get expensive.

If you only have a $500 budget I would start out with 2 dipsey rods, braid or wire, and 2 leadcore setups, probably a fullcore and a halfcore. Plus a set of inline boards and 2 standard dipseys. For dipsey reels I would get the best ones you can afford, which I think would be a Daiwa Sealine SG47 LC. For leadcore I would use the Okuma Convector CV 45. Good, inexpensive rods would be Daiwa Heartland's for dipsey's and Okuma Classics for leadcore. For terminal tackle you want high quality ball bearing swivels. Sampo, Spro, Opti and Dreamweaver all make good stuff. That pretty much uses up your $500 but you should be able to catch fish on those setups. You could get cheaper reels but chances are you would be replacing them in a few years. The ones I recommended aren't the most expensive but will last for you.

Just a warning you guys will have to catch all the fish as my back isn't good enough to be cranking on salmon yet. -
I will be up in this area for the next week. Don't know how much fishing I will be able to do but might be able to give it a shot. Anyone ever fish up there or have any info? I found a charter captain out of Leland that posts some reports and there is a tackle shop in Glen Arbor so I thought I would try to find out some info that way but was hoping someone might be able to help. Either way looks like a cool area for a boat ride.

Jimmy, I will be in Cedar from the 25th-2nd. If you are interested I might need a crew 1 day. Maybe we could meet in Frankfort? I will take your number along just in case. -
Thanks Frank.

Shouldn't be any nets down there. Maybe it's marking a shipwreck or other dive site? Either way, good job on the fish! -
When you guys pull Tots and spoons what speed are you running? I'm assuming faster than harnesses, maybe up around salmon speeds? Thanks guys, the back is feeling better and after my vacation next week I am thinking about heading over to the Bay. Think I might be able to handle walleye but not ready for salmon yet.

Good job! Looks like your having a good season and really figuring it out. I know all the Wisconsin guys appreciate your reports. Good luck your next time out, hope the weather is better. -
I was just going to try one behind a big tin can or a set of cowbells. How long of a leader?
-
I bought a couple of those giant, marshmallow sized S-N-G's to use for lakers. How do you guys rig them up? Just a treble and a few beads? Same lead length as a fly? Thanks in advance.

That is a giant herring!
-
I don't think these are the same thing you're talking about Mike. These are clips that hold your net handle to the boat.
-
Nice job and good luck in your new venture!

I'd go with 40, 45 and 50. The bottom is better if it's closer to level with the water.
