Tried my hand at walleye fishing wednesday morning after work. Launched out of LBM around 8:30 and headed northeast out to 20'. Set up on southeast troll with 2 rods running Jet 20's and one rod with a 3 oz snap weight. All rods had Moonshine spoons. Took 2 14 1/2" fish on copper back Ratchet Jaw on the Jet diver. Fished about 1 1/2 hours then headed in. Got about 100' directly in front of the channel and even though I had the outdrive trimmed 1/2 up I hit a rock with the prop. Managed to get the boat loaded and the damage was minimal, plus there doesn't seem to be any water in the outdrive fluid. I tried pulling spoons because even though I run 2 36" trolling bags I have a hard time getting the boat to troll down below 1.8 mph consistently. I'm thinking about trying a different pitch prop. Anyway, I give you walleye guys a lot of credit. It's not as easy as it looks. I'll probably try to go out again in the next week or 2 but will head up to Au Gres to avoid any more issues with the launch. I was also wondering if you guys who run Jet divers run them off big boards or inlines? I had issues with them tangling when trying to run 2 on a side behind inlines.

Thanks for both of the reports guys!

Bob, if you check the Muskegon and Pt. Sheldon/Holland reports they should be able to put you in the general area and give you an idea on what lures have been working. To be honest things have been changing a lot from day to day so if you can get in the ballpark and adjust from there you should be ok. I would help you out but I haven't been out in a week.

Walleye For Warriors
Paulywood replied to Priority1's topic in Saginaw Bay Fishing Reports - Walleye
I wasn't able to participate this year but did last year. The same thing kind of happened to me last year Frank. Met the 3 vets I was taking out and it was a father and 2 sons. The dad lived about 1 1/2 miles from me in St. Louis and one of the sons lived in Sheperd. I had a great time and if I am able I will be participating next year. -
Hmmm, is there anything on the bottom of the boat that could cause turbulence? Otherwise maybe you try taking a few things off and seeing if you can get one ducer at a time to work. Good luck.

No Busch Lights, I did have 2 Bud Lights, though. As of right now I plan on fishing the July 8th WMFL event. -

Welcome to GLF! Matt Mishler is a first mate on a boat out of Manistee and he usually posts some good reports for that area. There are a few other members who fish there also, hopefully they will chime in. You might also want to check the Ludington reports as both ports fish the point. Good luck out there. -

Thanks for the report and nice job. I also threw a Pro King out yesterday, first time I had ever run it, and it took 2 fish before the third hit broke off. That spoon has been in my box for years without ever getting wet. Now I have to find another one. -
I couldn't get the 22's to pull my 300' very good yesterday. I'm going to try a set of the 44's. When the wind picked up the combination of waves and current kept causing the board to flip. It worked ok when it was calm. There is a lot more pull with the copper than with the leadcore I am used to.

Lake Michigan Stocking Strategy Survey Results
Paulywood replied to Jay Wesley's topic in Lake Michigan Discussion
By the way, thanks for the info Jay. I agree with reducing the number of kings stocked in order to avoid a crash. I don't know what the trawl results will show but the bait population seems to be pretty robust this year. The 2 times I have been out of Holland we have been marking bait like crazy. And the fish size seems to be good too. -
Lake Michigan Stocking Strategy Survey Results
Paulywood replied to Jay Wesley's topic in Lake Michigan Discussion
Well, there are no alewives in Lake Huron but I still see a whole lot of zebra mussels. Same for Lake Erie. Sorry to tell you but the salmon are not going away without a fight from a whole lot of people, many who are members of this website. I haven't seen or heard anything about stocking alewives, just controlling the salmon population so that there is a balance between the two. If you want to debate the merits of certain species over others that's fine. But if you want to continue to try and bully people and brow beat them to your way of thinking it won't be tolerated. By the way, have you ever posted a fishing report or helped out a fellow angler with tips or techniques? Just asking because all I have seen from you is a lot of complaining. Try going fishing and then post a report to help out the other members of the website. It might make you feel better. -
Hit the water about 5am and set up in 50' on a SW troll and immediately started making tons of bait and fish. The only problem is they didn't want to bite! Made it out to 85' and the high diver out 120' went off. Some blue UV ladderback spoon Jon gave me last weekend. The first fish in my boat this year was a nice 5 lb coho. Turned northwest to try and go back through the same water and when we hit 110'-135' we had a quick 3/3 flurry. Low diver out 100' with double fish scale paddle and green/glow Sigg's Fly fired twice, full core w/ Purple Thunder went once. Got pushed outside and by the time we hit 135' again we were going northeast. Took 1 on half core w/ Mixed Veggies and another on the low diver. The rest of the day we worked the 110-145' band from the condos to the sliders. There was current on top that was offshore and a stronger current on shore down below. We had the best luck quartering into the current rather than running straight. Half core went a couple of times with a Pro King Coyote. 300' copper went a couple of times with a mini yellow something that I think might have been from the Dreamweaver last year. The high diver with the free spoon from last week went a couple of times out 120' and later 160'. The low diver went a couple of more times out 100' and 130'. Full core with a Mag Super Screw went once. Might have missed a couple but we ended 10/14 with 5 steelies, 4 kings and the coho. 3 of the lost fish were steelies also who put on a show. Even saw a steelie jump out of the water behind the boat even though it wasn't hooked. We ripped off a couple sets of lips when boards dove and one of the steelies stole my Coyote but all in all it was a pretty good morning for my shakedown trip. I'll post some pics later. http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/gallery/files/8/5/imag0030_950403.jpg' alt='imag0030_950403.jpg'>

Great Walleye Action

Welcome and thanks for the report. I think I might drag the boat with me to work one day next week and hit Linwood in the morning after I get out. I'm glad to see a few reports from that area as it saves me from having to drive up to Au Gres and follow Frank around! -
Good job and thanks for the report.

Good job Dave, thanks for the report. I plan on heading out wednesday morning. -
I use the Cannon's. I like them because they are reusable. I bought a set of them a few years ago and just opened it this year when I had to replace the cable on my rigger. I don't use a probe, however.

One thing that I have noticed is that most of the retailers who tailor to us big lake guys are really great to work with. The guys at the Outdoorsman are no exception.
