  6. Sure has been a good year. Thanks for the updates Captain Ron!
  7. Good job Steve, what area did you fish? Did you get up around Little Point at all?
  8. I will be heading out of Muskegon for the first time this year next weekend and was wondering if anyone had the GPS coordinates for the nets this year. Thanks, Nick
  9. Brandon, if you are going to add more diver rods I would definitely go with wire. Personally, I would go with board rods, either leadcore or copper. They are a little more versatile than divers, they can be run farther away from the boat and can be very effective after the sun comes up. Also, with a smaller boat it's easier to run board rods than 4 diver rods. The sliders are correct as free sliders.
  10. Nice job Brandon, thanks for the report.
  11. Good job and thanks for the report.
  12. When the alewives are in the channel thick they will jump out of the water as the boat goes through. I'm not sure if they are in there spawning now or what. This seems like it's about the right time of year for that, although I'm no expert. Anyway, good job on the fish and thanks for the report.
  13. Nice job and thanks for the report.
  14. I pretty much agree with everything Ed said. I support the DNR's decision to be conservative with the stocking. The numbers of fish of all species (kings, coho, steelies) all seem to be up. I would be more worried if the fish were skinny or the bait wasn't around. But the fish seem to be healthy and the times I have been out we have marked tons of bait. I guess I'll be happy with what we have and hope the DNR is doing the right thing with the stocking numbers. So far I haven't seen anything to think that they aren't managing the fishery correctly. Hopefully the fishing stays good throughout the rest of the summer.
  15. Welcome aboard and good luck!
  16. Welcome aboard Dave! Feel free to ask about anything you need help with and browse around the different sections of the site. we don't have many members from your area but hopefully you will find some info to help you out. Good luck the rest of the year.
  17. I run Walkers and I run the inside diver on 1 (mag) on a 7' rod and the outside diver on 3 (standard) on a 9' rod. I just let them out as far as I need to in order to hit the depth I want. The outside one should be running farther out to the side so you need to let it back farther in order to hit the same depth. If I want to be 50' down I let the inside diver out 100' and the outside diver out 150' to start with. If one is getting hit and the other isn't I adjust from there. Hope this helps.
  18. Or post on the different message boards or port boards, people are always looking for observers. You could contact the people running the tournament also.
  19. Good job and thanks for the report. I think we are heading out saturday morning.
  20. We went out with Ed Stell out of Ludington for 7-8 years in a row and he had 2 big coolers that had cushions that snapped on them as extra seating. Not sure what kind they were but he had the same ones the whole time and they held up fine. They had squared off corners and edges and were about 150 qt, I would guess. It worked really well, we just plopped the fish in the cooler and then took out the hooks. To hold the cushions on he just had a couple of vinyl straps with snaps on them and screwed snaps onto the sides of the cooler.
  21. The Captain's Paks can handle 12 lbs but nothing over that. I called and asked BJ about different riggers and weights before buying mine.
