Let's hope for the weather to improve. Nice work on avoiding that skunk. -
I may have "pooched" it here so I'm looking for some help. mechanical things I'm okay with. Electrical not so much. I cut the antenna cable for my cannon snt to remove the downrigger for storage this winter. Now I can't seem to get it hooked up right. I have crimped a coated connection to the end of the spring and the inner part of the coaxial antenna cable. Doesn't work. I read in an old post about a scotty connection but i didn't quite understand it. Any help would be great. Basically I have the end of the coax and the pick up spring.

Got out around 7 pm. fished until 10:30. Ohhferr. Can't get the skunk out of the box. REally windy making for snotty chop and a tough troll in our small boat. Could only get a true run with or against the wind. . Stayed mostly in close. Marked several pods of baitfish and salmon. Dragged through them no luck . Hopefully later this week I can get another shot at it.

Question about what I am seeing on graph
salmonquest replied to slickwater's topic in Salmon Pro's Connection
The true question is where were you when you picked up screens 2 and 4 I don't have much experience with this but my $.02 would be that you are definately picking up some solid clutter at 30. I know when you are diving there is a barrier between the layers of water that causes you to feel an immediate change in temp as you move through the water column. I'm sure this alters the temp of the water and above and below this mark making a gradual change. My guess would be clutter collects here causing the marks on the graph. Probably attracting baitfish etc. I would say the light blue specks would be mostly clutter I know I adjust my gain until I'm picking up a lot of clutter and then back it off until I can see pretty clearly. I would guess screen 3 contains small salmon or larger fish such as perch etc.. I think Keating also mentions something about fish that are on the edge of the cone or moving in or out producing a different image other than the standard hook. -
Thanks fellas. Jay's in Gaylord had the wilderness for 15 or so and the firewolf for 17 or 18.. I think I'll splurge on the firewolf for my new dipsy rods. :)
-
I'll try to get in touch with him that way. thanks mike.
-
Does anyone use the Daiwa Dipsy rods??? I noticed there is a firewolf and a Wilderness(?)? I was wondering how well they stand up and if the action is good. I saw them for a good price recently.
-
I hate to dwell on this but I was going to order two double rod holders and was hoping to get them from Lord of the riggers but the website is still down. I see he has some on ebay. Anyone know when he might be back up and running???

Nice work John I'm hoping to fish there this weekend.

Do you think salmon move north?
salmonquest replied to slickwater's topic in Salmon Pro's Connection
I've been thinking about this for awhile. I was thinking that Salmon kind of hang out in Northern Huron and go either up the St. Marys or find their way over to Lk. Michigan side. In fact part of my experimental program is to look at the area inbetween Mack. City and St.Ignace for Salmon on their way over to Michigan. I would think it would be a natural choke point. We'll see. -
I'm looking forward to seeing this. Cool Idea. Now I can learn even more from the pros.
-
Mike thanks for checking on that.

When I try to access this site I'm asked for a username and password. Anyone know what's up with that??

St. Ignace and Cedarville Questions
salmonquest replied to Paulywood's topic in Lake Huron Discussion
I assume you are leaving from St. Ignace by the way. Yes there is a Marina in St. Ignace, newly improved btw. I don't know for sure if they'll let you park there but when I drove by sunday it certainly wasn't packed. You can see it shortly after you hit "downtown". You may want to check ticket prices for the ferries. I think they are upwards of $20 some. The Island marina might be cheaper to slip your boat than take the ferry. Good luck. I heard that the herring are still in McKay bay but a guy I talked to couldn't hook up while the guy next to him with the same presentation was slaying them. Go figure. -
I just got my two 18" traxstech. I'm really pleased with how solid they seem. When you install them what type of backer is best. Do you go with the backers from the website or would wood work all right. I thought about using wolmanized 5/4?? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

St. Ignace and Cedarville Questions
salmonquest replied to Paulywood's topic in Lake Huron Discussion
Nick, Here are a few options: 1. The marina in St.Ignace is a very short walk from the arnold line dock (my preferred line). 2. The municipal launch is a very short walk to Star Line and Sheplers. 3. Sheplers has probalby the best parking for a truck and trailer. I would feel reasonably safe if you can lock your boat up especially still attached to the truck. My best guess would be to park it in the marina parking lot. It's right on main street. That's both good and bad I guess high visibiltiy works both ways. The marina doesn't have a launch. I've done the herring a couple times. They put a great fight but have a very soft mouth. Last time we hooked up a lot but my catch ratio wasn't so hot. It's great action if you get into them. Good Luck. I might try during the week. I'll let you know if I do. -
Looking around does anyone know if the big jon pedastel bases work with the track system or do they need any modification or additional mounting hardware. I was eyeing up those set of doubles at lordoftheriggers.
-
Thanks guys. That makes me feel better about the purchase.
-
I'm looking at purchasing some traxtech tracks. Are traxtech the only rod holders that will work in these tracks or will something like berts, big jon, or tite lok work as well??? Thanks
-
I've tried running two different dipsy colors with the same flasher fly combo and the chartruese dipsy has out produced them all for me. Do you guys usually run mag or #1's??
-
Those are great pics. Sounds like a blast. Congrats.

WE didn't catch any fish in Detour but I almost hooked this one. I'm pretty sure that would be a world line class record at least. I do love being on the water.
