Thanks for the input guys it was a disapointing year last year so we'll see what this summer brings. I regularly run my diggers at various depths up to 100' but have never caught a fish in the straits over 70' down not sure why.

I only get out about ten times a year and wih gas prices going up maybe less. I am considering selling my big Jon electric downwinders and only using dipseys I figured I could still easily run a six rod spread. I am looking for some input pro or con on this approach. Anyone use just dipseys? What about running spoons behind dipsies? Thanks as always.

We caught 1 small king and I think the rest were coho or steelhead. I'm not great at the fish ID. Chris, Yeah it's hard to beat the scenery there. I enjoy trying to figure out the puzzle because there are so many different area's to fish.

Got out Monday morning, evening and tuesday morning. Bittersweet outing. Got nada both mornings. Monday night was both one of the best and worst fishing outings since I started. We boated 6 fish. I know how can that be bad? The biggest one was 16". We drug the second around for an hour wasting time. Action was hot and heavy when we could detect a bite. It was mostly hey I think there might be one on there and you couldn't tell even after you released it. Then it would get within six feet and it was like. Yep it's a fish and we would lift it into the cooler. Tasty filets but not real exciting. Just a tip for up there we couldn't keep a small pink alewife in the water. A lot of easterly wind that has traditional areas full of warm water. The strong westerly winds this week will hopefully put things back to "normal"

Well I finally got out and didn't get skunked. Went 1 for 6. It was the first salmon I ever had to release. I tried using the tried and true methods perfected by BC2 but the little guy hung on. Just kidding. The good news I was able to release him with out handling and he came in quickly from shallow so hopefully he gets bigger. Caught him on downrigger orange angel spoon 30' in 100 fow off Grand hotel.

Ken, I wish I knew. I got out one time for a late shake down cruise and forgot the bolts for the down riggers so just ran some dipsies with no luck. I've heard reports that the lake trout fishing has been very good and they've been getting some big kings. I'm hoping to get out a few times in the next couple weeks. I'll post reports.

I cut the spring/antenae pick up on my snt to remove the downrigger. I had a diagram and the part number that was supposed to get it back together. Of course I can't seem to find them anymore. Has anyone found a connection to splice the coax back to the spring? I cut it so there is about an inch or two of straight metal coming off the coil. Apparently I need this spelled out like I'm in third grade since I've tried three different connections and can't get this stupid thing working again. Thanks. Of course pictures are appreciated. We fish out of a 17.5' grady white CC. I don't think you should be worried to much about handling the seas. Most of the CC's are as seaworthy as anything in their class. The one convenience as mentioned above is being able to walk a fish forward. That being said if you have enough dance floor that isn't an issue. Another advantage is you are always close to the helm I go out solo sometimes and can fight a fish and drive easily and still be close to the side to net. Problems: 1. can't get out of the weather so invest in some dry bags and good rain gear and gloves. 2. Little freeboard so you have to be very very careful. 3.Very little room at the stern. You need to have fishing partners that work well together. 4. Space in general: Storage, electronics, mounting downriggers. I love our boat but if I could trade it for a windsheild and cover with more space in the back I would in a heartbeat. THat being said fishing in one is like keeping a secret the fewer people in on it the better. Two adults is ideal Three is o.K. You can do four but one has to sit up front and rotate back to fish. Two adults and two kids preteen or earlier is all right as well. Hope this helps.

My dad and I are going to mount our; new to us; kicker motor on Friday. We are going to use a bracket. I've not seen either. Any advice or tips? The one thing I'm really not sure about is wiring in the electric start. Can this be wired to a type of plug like a trailer plug or something or to a relay? I also assume that the bracket will just through bolt with a plywood or metal plate backer? Thanks for any advice; usually I get half way through these projects and realize there was a critical step I forgot or a lot easier way to do it.

By some terrific good fortune a friend of my dads gave us a 7.5 Merc. long shaft with electric start. Now we have to mount it. It came with a bracket that will raise and lower. Do you think it would be best to mount it on the bracket or on the transom? Thanks for the input. This is the best picture I have of the back of the boat.

Try a spray on silicone or if you want it dry graphite powder. amazing how well that works. Heck take a thick pencil and give it to a young kid and let them start coloring

How do you connect teh rope to the bucket? Surely not to the handle? Do you drill one or more holes near the top? do you drill holes at the bottom of the bucket?

I have two moultrie game spies. They take a nice picture and the video is good. The trigger is a little slow but if you position it correctly it doesn't make much difference. It lacks the infared but they run 89-99 so you could buy 2-3 for the price of more expensive models. I have had two that were faulty when I bought them but it showed right away and I returned them. The two I have now have worked flawlessly over the past three years. My dad has several more expensive models adn the IR video is cool. I know the leaf river was the worst and the Cuddeback was the best of his higher end models. I'm not sure about bushnells.

Yeah these are all in front of my father-in-laws blind. He shot a very wide 11 pt but it was busted off from fighting. Very unfortunate.
