  1. Hey everybody. New to running wire dipsys this year, and I’ve got a couple questions. I’ve run braid dipsys for a few years so I have the basics down. Let em creep out under pressure, run a snubber, the whole world. What I’m wondering is does everyone run backing behind their wire, or just straight wire. And how much backing and how much wire? I was thinking about 2-300 ft of braid backing then 500 ft of wire, but looking for opinions. Also, because I’ll still be running braid divers, I plan to run the wires at a 1 or 1.5 and the braids at a 2.5 or 3. Any tips you can give me would be much appreciated. Can’t wait to get out there and frustrate myself to death lol. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  2. Looking for some reels. Either 3 matching reels for downriggers, or 2 matching reels for wire divers. Looking mainly for convectors, cold waters etc, but I’ll entertain other offers. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  3. I haven’t checked the weather buoys north of port Sheldon, but last time I checked, the water was quite a bit colder up that way. Sorry to have led you astray, but hey, atleast you had an awesome day to fish. It was dead flat out there yesterday Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  4. No lakers. I think they’re out in that 200. We didn’t mark many fish around the weather buoy, but still managed a good day, thank you, I was pretty amazed myself. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  5. Fat fingered that, 2 small Kings not 3 Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  6. Played around in south haven today, all the boats went out to 200, I stayed in and fished the weather buoy AGAIN. It never puts me on limits, but ended up 5 for 6 with 3 steelhead and 3 small kings. Kept one steelhead and One king just to feed us, and let the rest swim. All fish caught on north troll in 65-70 fow, 1.8-2.2 and every single one came on a downrigger 70 down with a spin n glow behind a tin can 5 feet behind the ball. 7. It seems like a lot of people move north with the tournament trail. I start out fishing st Joe, then move to south haven, holland, grand haven, and Muskegon is as far north as I go, but I usually don’t end up any further south than south haven any time after May. 8. Took some friends out who had never been before, we went 2/6. 2 on a swr down 40 in 60 fow. The rest of the hits came on the 10 color, 2 were big kings we lost at the back of the boat. Trolled the 65 foot line for about 4 hours, and all my hits came within 500 yds of the south haven buoy. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  9. Did you guys just troll pier heads, or did you try out deeper for 2 and 3 year old kings? Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  10. Did it fall through? I'd be interested in 3 of the big Jons Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  11. [emoji1360] I'll put it on 68 and keep in touch Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  12. Do you have a ship to shore radio? If so, I'll give you a shout if we're finding fish. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  13. Thank you, I bought it this year, and the guy before me took great care of it. I'll keep my eye out for a 17 ft whaler Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  14. What port you fishing Kevin? I'll be out of holland either Saturday or Sunday in my 88 crownline Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  15. I'm thinking you're probably right. I wish I could get everybody out in a weekday. Less boats to deal with. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  16. Definitely got some weeds in there haha, if we don't catch any fish, atleast we can catch weeds. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  17. Haha I've never seen a dipsy come out of the water. Hopefully when we go we'll have the freedom to run the midline, and channel if we need to. I'd imagine there's less boating activity since we're past Labor Day, but with the weather being as nice as it is, I'm sure there'll be enough traffic to keep me from running as many lines as I'd like. 18. Awesome, thank you. I'll let you know how we do Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  19. An hour before sunset or sunrise? We'll probably only fish for 4-5 hrs, but thank you for the tip. What were you running behind your spin doctors? Thanks again Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  20. Next time maybe start dead center in the back of the boat, and as you let it out, watch to make sure it's going the right way. A friend of mine was certain he was setting his dipsys correct and the first time I "checked his work" he had them adjusted incorrectly, and was setting the wrong one off the wrong side. 21. I'm thinking either holland or south haven. The east winds lately can't be helping. Wind out of the east, fish bite the least... Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  22. Are you putting your dipsy on 2.5 to the left off of starboard, or port? Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  23. Thanks for the reports guys. I'm hoping to get out Friday and pre-fish for Saturday. I don't care if we only catch 3 or 4 fish, as long as they get to reel something in. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  24. Anyone getting on any decent numbers? Taking my dad, and grandpa out this weekend, and this may be our last trip with the 3 of us, so I'd like it to be a memorable one. Not afraid to get off shore 15 miles if that's where the fish are, just hoping for some guidance from you guys that are able to get out a little more. Thanks in advance guys. 25. Anyone going to be fishing south haven tomorrow morning? I'm going out with a few friends, and looking for anyone who might be out there. I'd be willing to share what we're catching them on, and where, and hopefully receive the same information in return. I'll be on channel 72, offshore Account is the boat name. Let me know if you're interested. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
