  1. Re: Sea Ray 240 Signature for Fishing In regards to the questions I had posted about the Sea Ray 240 Signature for Salmon fishing out on Lake MI. I certainly do appreciate the feedback. Even though we are experienced boaters & have been fishing the big water for a long time, we still value the input of other fisher people. Great Lakes Fisherman always has some type of useful info on fishing & gear or the boats that we use to chase the fish with. Since we are interested in a bigger boat but, she has to be fairly clean & fairly new. As most people know, the big water can be rough, so anything smaller than 23 ft. just won't do us any good.
  2. My brother & I are seriously considering the purchase of a Sea Ray 240 Signature for Salmon fishing out on Lake Michigan. The boat is in mint condition for a 2003 model year. The input we are seeking is that because the boat came equipped with a 7.4 liter V8, or a GM 454 big block - will she troll well knowing that we would have to use our trolling bags. Is this just too much engine for a boat that size. The other train of thought here is the economic factor involved for fuel consumption. We feel that the price is right and really want to step up to a bigger boat to meet the conditions the big lake can and will dish out at times.
  3. Eyecracker / Dave Muskegon 9-2 PM Dave, Thanks for the post. I take it the Diver set ups were spinnies of some sort. Did you get a take on the GPS for the nets David
  4. Hey Flyboy, First of all the main intent of running the 1000' of ss wire per a single reel is to eliminate the need for any backing. Most fish out there in the big lake will be handled with wire. case in point though I saw a king spool off 450' of wire on me last in Manistee, so you had bets careful. If you know an Albright knot that might work to join the (2) lines together. Most wire is very stiff or, resistant to a particular knot. I do a surgeon loop at the swivel end with a crimp for the wire. Too much backing and the reel will be overfilled as well. I also would plan on a much heavier braid to tie off with. Find the toughest braid you can afford to work with as well. When it comes to fishing for big fish do not be afraid to beef it up.
  5. The clear "stealth" snubbers have really made a major improvement over the old fashion types and, with today's technology why not go with the flow. Common sense told me a long time ago to stop using what always getting deteriorated from the uv rays of the sun, hence being rotted in short order. The Opti clear snubber is carried at many of the Gander stores and, have been really reliable for me time and time again. Also they come with reel quality swivels that help any presentation in the water no matter species you are trying to target or regardless what body of water you are on. The market today probably carries at least 4 major manufactures of them you just have to make that choice. BlueFinn

  8. How true that sometimes even the best of us who think we know all the names or what was abbreviated end being wrong. With so many of the names being copied regardless of manufacture do not always produce the same color pattern either. As an example, take a look at the "Bumble Bee" spoon from the different tackle companies to see that they are not the same. Here is another hitch, try to search for a spoon by name and it is not always as easy as you may think it would be. The "Earlybird" spoon is one I can not find to view right now as an example.
  9. I am in need of some basic advise from the anglers who follow the posts on the Great Lakes Fisherman web site. In terms of some of the basics involved, your input here would be very appreciative. 1. Howie's vs. Opti Tackle copper line, is there any difference in the quality, or how it is manufactured per the particular company. 2. Mono length between backing and the copper, because I intend to splice in a certain length of mono to the braid for the board. 3. same as no. 2 but for the lure end
