  1. Had to double check the fish stocking database but the Platte gets planted heavily as that’s where the brood stock come from / hatchery is, but the St Joe, Kalamazoo, Grand/Rogue, Muskegon, Big Sable, and Manistee all get plants too. Didn’t realize they were that spread out I know the amount we get in Holland / Saugatuck has really gone up in the last few years spring and fall. Those are some pretty steelhead I’m getting itchy seeing all the picture you guys are posting.
  2. Coho spend a year and half in the hatchery and another year and a half in the big lakes. Some run after one season in the lake (jacks) and rarely do you see one that stays out longer although Team Hammbone weighed in a 29# coho in Frankfort some years ago.
  3. Awfully small king for four years in the lake.
  4. Table fare gonna be suspect this late…
  5. There’s been a huge slug of bath water stacked up over here I would highly expect some repair mature fish (regardless of age) to be behind that water still waiting to run.
  6. Most kings like 95% have run after three summers in the lake. I think the last study I saw on the grand was 5% after one summer 50% each two summers and three summers and a few four or more summers.
  7. Nice. Two steel and a king? What did the guy in tight catch my 9mph boat isn’t going out to 165’
  8. My music selections are all off maybe that’s why I’ve been struggling lately…
  9. Tried Holland tonight could not find the kings but did stumble into this. Now my youngest is rubbing in the fact that at ten she’s caught a pike bigger than dad’s best by over a foot. That’s a size four J plug down there it’s amazing we landed that fish. Good thing it didn’t fight at all. Then she backed it up with this while pulling lines.
  10. I like to fish shallow so until about 10/15 or so the lake has to cool down but after that 10-25’ can give up just about anything other than the mature fish that are gone. Just dot the I’s and cross the t’s it can be lonely out there.
  11. Checked the fish stock data base and kings are planted in Saugatuck on even years so it makes sense we are seeing a lot of two year old kings in the mix. Gotta figure out who to give a shout out to at the DNR about the 36k coho we are getting in Saugy now those fish have paid off all season not just now that they are coming back.
  12. Season’s just starting - give it a month to set up and then great fishing until you have to break ice.
  13. Coho hot master angler. Woohoo.
  14. And had a nice hit on the SWR rigger to wrap up and the core broke right in the middle. 3/6 and done if you count the sheep which today is a sheep counting day.
  15. Got a nice coho in the wire on a fly I tied last night. Stripped the gears on a wire reel. Then lost a hit on a half core, then missed a rip on a slide diver, then while working that mess ran over a hump where it went from 51 to 37 right now and buried some gear on the bottom. Cranked a rigger up to 20’ before we could drop it back down a pig coho hammered it. Probable master angler..,
  16. Hoping playing with my phone will make something happen. Big rip 35’ slide river out 60 mag moonshine bloody nose leader snapped. 9# sheep seven color same spoon. Headed out deeper.
  17. Pectoral clip in a king last night. Never seen that before.
  18. Stayed slightly deeper last night in 40-50 just outside and south of 2MD ended up 8/11. At one point landed a fish then ended up with a quad and somehow got three lost the fourth after a long fight on a half core when it got into the only rod still down. One hit on a j plug three on thundersticks three on spoons and the rest on white spinnies right on the bottom including a steelhead. Two fish we lost both broke off and both were big fish.
  19. Look like steelhead to me. White mouth is a give away give them a quick dental exam next time.
  20. That lure selection just says “August”
  21. Newbie hit up my Venmo Still would have liked a beer though
  22. Took out a newbie from work. Could not get the 15 to start in the mean time I notice we are drifting away from the dock and across outgoing traffic at the launch. Sorry guys. I assumed the newbie would know to keep us tied up until I said something or the motor was you know running. Fuel hose was hooked up to the 4 as soon as I swapped it over life was good. Ran out to 85' got set up right as I got everything in the SWR rigger jumped up. Straight up. One color and a very good SS mag that's taken a pile of fish gone for nothing. As I'm turning to avoid a John boat the slide diver watermelon Nailer back 180 gets jacked and starts screaming. Then the full core digs in. One fish is way sideways I need to turn out it nope John boat right there. So I put the screws to the full core fish as the diver is out over 500' at this point and get a nice 4# coho on a silver size 3 J. Finally set up to turn nope John boat is still right there so I just keep on dragging out this fight pull the diver on that side to clear it and finally we land a 13# hen that fought way harder. Half the spread out I turn around. Sure enough John boat follows me like a sheep. Sped up as he was slow rolling just to be rid of that head ache. Switching over to the glow program white spinny purple mirage fly down 100 grabs a 9# laker. Glow program in get a 3# king on a moonshine bloody nose fixed slider down 70. Newbie brought beer never offered me one. Had to point that out. About quarter to 9 full core green glow J digs in hard. Then doesn't. Reel it in J plug leader broken at the knot. Another blow to my tackle inventory those things are precious. It's somewhere near the buoy hope it finds a good home. That was it. For not expecting much and hearing things were tough it sounds like we all did OK yesterday. At least the cat fish left me alone. Newbie leaves with the fish while I'm putting stuff away no offer to help no offer for gas money. Newbie isn't gonna be back out any time soon.
  23. Always like your videos. Keep them coming.
  24. My divers are set to trickle out drag on the outside rod if I turn, or the boat surges on a wave.
