Nailer

We made it up for one day, (Thursday) High Presser dominated the weather. High presser and Walleye don't mix well. The fish we marked where in 30 fow and tight to the bottom. We ran Bouncers and crawler with no luck. We tried other presentations with out any luck either. We did pick up one 16"walleye well after dark over 12 fow. It's a beautiful area to fish. I took this shot from our resort dock just before breakfast.

Tom, where do you get the shark 12 pound balls?

I've read a lot of these threads (asking the same question) over the years. From what I read most like the Depth Rader. I have a Canon, and like Mainiac says they really blow back when deep. The thing I do not like with the canon is you need to remove the battery after every use, also the attachment system is not that great. The light percentage on the Canon is nice, but it only works %20 of the time

That really sounds like a wonderful trip.

Dave, I hope we have your luck (skill) also. We most likely will drift or troll harnesses in the upper bay. If the weather isn't to bad I want to try some night trolling along the drops. Thanks for the tips.

Take it from a Carpenter that most any thing will run the Nail Gun, but you will need the volume to run the Spray gun and impact. I would think 30 gallons would be about minimum. I am not a big fan of most Craftsmen stuff, but I do have a Craftsman Compressor that I keep in the garage that seams of descant quality.

If every thing goes well, my uncle and I are going to take a trip up tho the North country in the third week of October. We are thinking of fishing Bay De Noc for a day or two. I have fished it four times with mixed results. Is there any one out there that would like to give me any detailed pointers that may help us? Thank You, Ken.

If your having crossing problems I'd look at running ahead of the ball, that will eliminate any of those problems. I've run at 200 feet out and havn't had a problem after adding them. Just some input I've observed.

Frank, I've had it on my two out riggers. It first I thought it was good but, after a few (4-6) years it looses strength. I lost 3 balls before I gave up and switched it out. I believe what S.X says about it hooking the other riggers. We also trouble with that in deep water. Stay with the wire. Ken

Don, This is not a big boat fishery. %95 of the time we slow troll the steep breaklines with a bow mounted electric trolling motor. We run the drops at 10-12'. The best drops are the ones that drop off directly to deep water. We rarely if ever fish during the day light. The fishing really gets good when the water hits 40 deg. Some of our best lures. Casting these same lures over shallow flats can also be productive. There are some guys that troll the river channel from The black Buoy down to the Power plant and do ok on the suspended fish during the day light. Just about every break on the lake will hold fish at some point. The key is to find them . Good luck. We'll start some time around the first of November. Ken.

This year was great, other than the weekend blows. We got fish every time out, and the size was noticeably bigger than last year.

Yes, back when I was single and food was in short supply. Unfortunately for me most of my family doesn't care for fish. %90 of the smallies we got where of keeper size.

I took the day off and went with my retired friend to the Muskegon River. We fish back to the basics (hook line and sinker). A couple of split shot a few feet in front of a single hook, tipped with a minnow and drifted or cast over the deep weeds. The smallies where loving it. We lost count how many but, I'm sure it was more than 20. We also picked up 6 or 7 pike. All the fish went back. Here's two from a double I had.
