  1. Quick trip out of PS last night but the action was fast. Fished 80-120 with 100-115 being the best for us. Finished 5-7 in a couple hours with 4 kings and a steelhead. Everything in the top 35 ft, East/West troll, 2.7-2.9 SOG, Moonshines, Stingray Nitros, and Spindoctors all took fish. Riggers, diver, and boards all got hit. Heard of fish caught anywhere from 70-180, didn't seem to matter where you were once the sun dipped underneath the horizon as long as your baits were in the top 35ft.
  2. hey sparky, we pulled out next to you at the launch tonight, my dad talked to you at gander the other day. good job out there again and good to see another fellow GLF member
  3. Thanks for the update Joe. Gander Mountain over here has a decent selection of spoons but definitely isn't a one stop shop. Closest place to us that has a good selection is The Outdoorsman Pro Shop in Jenison, but as stated Fish On Bait & Tackle is great and the owner is a first class guy. I also get a few from Gold Coast Outfitters next to the PS launch usually during their spring sale in March. If you want to do some spoon shopping just let me know
  4. Took dad out of Port Sheldon Saturday morning. Started setting lines at 6:30am in 80 FOW slightly North of port and heading West. Had some tackle issues while setting lines which included a dipsy rod that must have had a weak spot breaking for no apparent reason while setting it. Had our 6 rod spread in the water by the time we hit 100 FOW when the rigger down 35 with a UV Mixed Veggie Stingray took off and we landed a nice 5lb coho. While resetting the rod in 108 FOW I had the ball down 4 feet and was in the process of adding a fixed slider when the line took off out of my hands and we boated a 3lb coho. Finally got that rod back in the water and it took off again in less than 5 minutes now in 115 FOW. We landed a 10lb king to go 3 for 3 in the first 20 minutes after getting lines set. Continue West out to 125 and decided to make a loop back through that same area. Nothing going on the second pass so we worked out to the 160-170 area and picked away at them until we called it quits at 11:30am finishing 5 for 9. Everything hit on some form of a West troll going 2.7-2.9 SOG. Nothing going east and nothing on the smaller baits (Stinger). All the fish had multiple 4-6" alewives in their stomachs when cleaned. A summary of what worked: - UV Mixed Veggies Stingray on downrigger down 35ft - 5lb coho - UV Mixed Veggies Stingray on downrigger down 4ft - 3lb coho - UV Mixed Veggies Stingray on downrigger down 35ft - 10lb king - UV Mixed Veggies Stingray on downrigger down 35ft - lost king - UV Mixed Veggies Stingray on downrigger down 35ft - lost king - 8" White Blade Green Holo Spindoctor with Pickled Sunshine Fly back 50ft on a Slide Diver out 120 - lost king - Jager Bomb Stingray on board with 2oz Torpedo down 20ft - 5lb coho - Jager Bomb Stingray on board with 2oz Torpedo down 20ft - 8lb steelhead - Craig's Reverse Christmas Stingray 50ft back on a Slide Diver out 120 - lost steelhead Here's dad with the big fish of the morning
  5. We caught a couple on j-plugs on Monday night out of Port Sheldon. I would think flashers will start working consistently sometime in the next couple weeks with the temps warming, but that doesn't mean they won't work now too. I'd start in 50 FOW and spread baits around in the top 35 ft. with a variety of spoon sizes.
  6. We run 9ft because our dipsey rods are 10ft long. I'd say most guys run in the 6-10ft range for spoons from what I've heard. Slide divers are a different story.
  7. Sampos Mike, the quality is apparently gone from the last time we used them as you said. Will be replacing all of them, they just can't handle kings anymore.
  8. Hit the water with Dad for a couple hours tonight from 7-9pm. Went straight out to 50 FOW, turned south and went 2-4 on kings in the next hour with the two lost fish being due to bad swivels . Turned back North to troll into port and not a bump. All in all a great quick trip on the water. Here's what worked: DW Captain's Choice Plug - back 50ft, down 25ft on rigger Ace Hi Green Lightning Plug - back 50ft, down 25ft on rigger Flounder Pounder - dipsey on 3 out 85ft Gold Dbl Orange Crush Stinger - back 100ft on board with 1oz dive bomb And the catch:
  9. As has already been said by many, this site is a great resource. I've learned most of what I know from it and we follow many of the tips and tricks provide by those here while on the water. I'm a small boat guy as we only have a 16 footer so we have to pick our days and we really just got back into it last August after about an 8 year hiatus. I'd trade notes anytime!
  10. Great job, we couldn't get much going last night in Port Sheldon
  11. Of course the lake was flat calm though on Monday morning
  12. Hopefully soon! That thing is one of the best resources for us small boat fisherman when deciding whether to go out in the morning hours. Just have to wake up and check the wave height, no guessing from weather reports and wind forecasts.
  13. Great job in what looked like some bumpy conditions, we decided to pass on it this morning
