  1. Hitman has it right that is still last years map don't get caught with Lakers in the refuge area. Down here in Muskegon it is a long way out but I have fished in it would like to find a way to color the area in on my plotter. The refuge up by Charlevoix has to be tough to avoid just about a no lake Trout port.
  2. I don't have any info on that unit but I know a lot of guys are talking about the TR-1 Gold which is now made by Garmin as it offers speed control and autopilot for Kicker motors. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=228&pID=11573
  3. I went with the Lake Master chip because it had more detail on the inland lakes I often fish. All of the programs are pretty cool it is a matter of buying what you will use. Most GPS plotters come with a pretty basic world wide chart. My handheld Garmin GPS 76 came with nearly all of the harbor markings the next step up came with more detail. The same for my LCX 525DF combo unit it came with a lot of info out of the box so I ran it for a couple weeks before I put the Lake Master chip in it. The unit was pretty good on it's own the chip adds tons of little details and features some I may not ever even use but nice to know they are there.
  4. Robert I have drove my snowmobile in june on snow down here. That was years ago but we want to go fishing now.
  5. Mike the channel is open the rest is iced in the ice out front is not solid but not anything I want to drive my boat thru. It has been raining off and on all night here and all the snow is just about gone. So maybe a couple of Mar snowstorms and winter could be over with. YEA
  6. Sounds good Robert it took me years to pound it into my thick skull that there really was a differance between rods other than price. But all rod blanks are built for a purpose often rod builders will offer several varations of the same rod blank by moving eyelets and changing handles and reel seats and each one will fish a bit differant even though they all start with the same blank.
  7. To my understanding every living thing has a electrical signature all of our nerve impulses are electrical. In basic theory electrical impulses are magnetic in action and can either attract or repell. This is the idea behind the black box and correcting electrical signatures from your boat to stop repelling fish we also can sense electricity from a distance walk around power lines and you will feel it so the fact that fish can also feel it is no suprise the real question is if the voltage signal attracts fish all I know is it does not repell them. My E Chip program was productive the last 2 years did I do scientific testing no. Do I have E Chip lures that I have not caught fish on yes but I have boxes of non E Chip stuff that has not caught fish either. So is it going to talk a fish into biting I don't know but if it adds one more fish on a tough day it is worth it.
  8. Still removed from the clearly stamped coins of the past and once we get used to not seeing it on the front it will be gone from the edge.
  9. Robert every good rod manufacture labels there rods with info as to length action and rated line and lure weight such as this Okuma rod CP-DR-762ML ML 7'6" 8 ~ 20 2 which is a Classic Pro Downrigger rod 7ft 6in 2 section medium light action 8 to 20 lb test rod. Or this one CP-C-862MH MH 8' 6" 12 ~ 25 2 which is a Classic Pro Copper or leadcore 8ft 6in 2pc medium heavy action 12 to 25lb test rod. So pay attention to what the rod blank has printed on it because a correctly balanced 20 dollar rod will out perform a poorly setup 100 dollar rod. I have a hard time getting my wife to understand why I need more fishing poles but she is starting to get it figured out as I hand her differant setups to fish with.
  10. The new washington dollar I guess I need to look at the edge but received several emails and could notfind it anywhere on the one in my pocket.
  11. I am a light tackle fanatic so that comes into play on all my setups I got to a point in my fishing where just reeling them in has less and less meaning to me. If I had the time and budget I would be chasing line class records but I don't however I still stay on the light side where I can. Don't get me wrong I have 30lb Ande on my heavy downrigger poles though they will likely get swaped out to 25lb this year but as I look into new setups I try and obtain better balance between rod reel and Line. If the reel and line don't match the rod you will have problems. This is why the info is on the rod blank exceeding the line class on a rod can cause it to fail using too light a line on a rod will cause failure to the line as the rod will not give enough. Also many do not look at the drag specs for their reels a lot of great reels have a drag range of about 1/2 the expected working line strength so many of the 20 series reels have a workable drag range of 7 to 10 lbs 30 series reels have a drag range of 10 to 15 lbs etc. So when I see a setup with a 8ft medium action rod and a 20 series reel spooled with 30 or 40lb braid I see a problem on it's way. As you have a rod designed for 17 to 20lb line a reel designed for 10 to 15lb and line rated for 30 or 40lb you tell me which part will fail first? So again I am a light tackle nut on a lot but I am much more concerned with overall balance as all three parts have to work together you can't just take the wire off your wireline and put on 12lb and call it a light line setup. You could use a 12 lb leader but odds are you will have some problems with it. So do some research and find what will work my new light line setup for this year is 8 1/2 ft medium light rods rated for 15 lbs Okuma CL 30D reels rated for 7 to 10 lb drags and 14lb mono this gives me a high capacity reel that will match my line choice and a balanced rod that also works in the chosen line class. I hope the result will be a blast to catch fish on.
  12. I have received several emails on this so I will ask you what you think? The new dollar coin is missing the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" I for one will not accept them sorry I grew up with strong beliefs in God and Country and this nation was built on them remove either one and we fall fast.
  13. Well my first thought was the Benifit 4 kids that is part of the WMFL last year sent a kid to AK to fish. Personally I want to start a Plant Rights Group and work on outlawing eating fruit and vegatables then we can work on outlawing eating anything and the animal rights people will just starve off cause non of us are going to give up eating the problem will be solved.
  14. So many choices so little time often we think we are doing fine only to find out we would have had a great day if we ran a differant lure. The truth is once you get a decent spread going remember to keep up a good variety and keep changes a little at a time.
  15. I ran several last season with good success but can't say for sure they are better I still beleive if you pass a lure in front of them they will either hit it or pass and it don't matter what it is if they want to hit it. Now on the other hand if they are not in the mood some things seem to wake them up faster and the E Chip is designed to recreate the nerve impulse of a injured baitfish which lets the Salmon know that the bait is a easy meal.
  16. Thanks Mike but looking at the snow falling outside my rush to getthe boat out has slowed a bit.
  17. Yep Mike that about sums it up. As to Bill Elliot my bet is if he had been driving a Chevy he would hv been a hero but since he was driving a Ford who was not sponsering any NASCAR races at the time at least not directly involved. The simple NASCAR answer was to slow them all down as you can't have private racing groups making the factory guys look bad. And Mikes comment applies to nearly all forms of government as we see here in the USA where the Government is now more concerned with how to protect the Government then the people.
  18. I bought 4 Okuma Magna 45 linecounters with Okuma rods 4 years ago with the idea they were just something cheap to start with. Well they are about to start their 5th season with no issues. Sure theycould use more bearings so yes they will eventually wear out and the drags are not high end but a few web searchs will point you to many places you can buy quality drag washers and I have a few old reels that don'tcontain a single ball bearing that still work so I am not yet convinced that the Cheap Okumas will die anytime soon. I tend to like longer rods so my rods range from 8 to 10 ft.
  19. It really is a matter of how much action you want on the fly? Longer lengths seem to reduce or change the fly action I stick with 3 times the flasher length and it works for me. I tend to chase the more aggressive fish and for me when I run a flasher or any form of attractor I want his last meal close by. I don't think of fish weighing their choices I see A I eat this or B I don't. Since I know they often pass on the first thing they see I run SWR and core setups for them but most of the time my flasher fly setups are about getting them to grab it now and keeping them short reduces tangles with other gear.
  20. Well until we actually come up with a viable means of transportation it is what we have so far the stuff they are putting out while cute and cuddly is a waste of time. Frankly the majority of these only will work for people who for the most part don't actually need a car to begin with. Cities need to improve their mass transportation system and get people to use them light rail and bus systems make more sense for large cities. But for those of us who live in the country the only vaible option is and will continue to be for many years to come versions of what we now have with some improvements. And while uscountry folk get more stuff rammed down our throats because we get outvoted on every issue one should remember we feed you, all you truelly produce in a big city is money and many need to consider how long they can bad mouth the hard working men and women who provide their groceries. Picture what happens when the farmers all decide they can't afford the BS anymore and stop or decide that they will not take a loss anymore and raise prices cause we now can only harvest a little each day because it takes 8 hours to recharge the batteries on the combine and it ony runs a couple hours at best on a full charge. I am fully in favor of Green Ideas but some of the loonies who want to be in charge could care less if the whole world starved if they could lower pollution. And as long as Al Gores house uses more electricity then a small village why whould anyone listen to him.
  21. I don't know Mike your boat is in the same spot as it was when I droped mine off last fall I think there must be more than one way into mine other wise they had to move boats to put mine where it is. I know Brent said they had to move some boats around so hewanted to know when I planned on geing mine out.
  22. heres a pop quiz back which one can you order in rear wheel drive with a 350 cu in v8 and a manual trans.?
  23. It has nothing to do with the fact that a lot of cars are now made here it has to do with what made NASCAR great watching the car you drove to work win a race. While GM can claimall the manfacture cups it has won you never hear them point out that Ford and Chrysler were not competeing. Chrysler was banned because of the bankruptcy issue in the 70's and when Ford got called out on the carpet at a congress hearing they walked out and ended their racig program for 25 years in NASCAR. So untill Ford and Chrysler got backinto the game it was watch Chevies go round in a circle for years. And like I said they no longer have anything in common with what we drive paint them all white and remove the decals and they are all the same. What we got to drive used to get improved because of the program cause they could not race it if we could not buy it from the dealer. The list of Classic Muscle cars that would have never been built if not for NASCAR would blow your mind. Heres a few that never would have been in the public without NASCAR the 1964 425hp 409 Impala was chevies answer for Junior Johnsons 64 Galaxy 500 with the 427 and Chysler countered with the 426 Red Ram in the Belvedere. Why because if the car was not available to the general public it could not be raced. So by the late 60's into the early 70's if you knew what codes to write on the order form you could drive the same setup the big boys did. A friend of mine owned a 1970 Superbird with the Richard Petty package forget the numbers they gave the insurance company we are probably talking 800hp at full throttle and 170 plus as delevered. That was the final year of the big block racing as NASCAR outlawed the Hemi and the Ford big blocks so in 71 they went to the 355cu in engines. And lighter bodies I owned a 71 Talagadega Torino w a 351 Cleveland 4sp 3.25 full locker rear end totally stock it would run 150 plus I got a copy of the NASCAR specs for the motor and we built it to about 650 hp when you opened the hood it still looked stock. I over slept one morning and left the house in Kent City at 6:05 (walked out the door at 6:05) fired the car up and was in formation for roll call at the Coast Guard station in Manistee at 7:00. It is 115 miles all 2 lane road you do the math as to how fast I was going. I know I slowed to 90 going thru Baldwin my best guess is based on tach reading I was doing about 190 by Sippy flats near Lilley. Now if you drove like that today you would likely end up in jail for a long time. But the fact is I owe nearly all the cool rides I had as a kid to NASCAR racing development. I never cared much for watching cars go round in circles but I sure liked what the factory had to sell us to allow it. So make a list of all the cool old cars you wish you had and see how many of them were tied to NASCAR then consider what we would have to drive today if NASCAR made the drivers buy from the same dealership we buy from. That is my point.
  24. Mike is way closer to the front of the line to get his boat out than mine. There must be 50 boats between mine and the door.
  25. Well at least a Ford won cause while I am a ford fan all the way sure have no desire to watch a Toyota or Honda win Daytona maybe next year they will have Kia and Honda and Mercedes and Volvo. Can you picture all them rednecks leaving the race wearing Passat t shirts? Perhaps they can get Al Gore to design a new racing Hybrid cept the pit stops will be 8 hours while they recharge.
