  1. That was very cheap and sadly she probably paid close to half of that in taxes for winning it. Wish I had a decent job I would have bought it.
  2. Me too Mike I guess great minds think alike I did not want to burn a lot of gas if I could avoid it and had a idea they would be close. My plan was to setup in 45ft in front of the filtration plant and run north we stopped right on top of fish and had to watch them while we waited for 6 am took a couple of passes to get dialed in then we were doing fine. I was suprised they were not north where I wanted to fish as the water north of the channel was 4 deg colder than where the fish were. But every time I moved north we got nothing so had to keep working out front and inside. There was a pretty good feeding frenzy going on out front this morn.
  3. What you have going is very cool Mike I have a computer system for my boat just never made up my mind where to mount it since it is not water proof. Would be interesting to see what one of those wireless network setups would do out on the lake.
  4. Nice job wish I had caught a 17lb king this morn would have been happy with a couple more 14lbers even. Glad to se Kings have returned to the area sure missed them the last couple of weeks.
  5. Fished in tight all morn except for about a hour if you count the Sheephead we were 8 for 8 weighed a 6 fish 70.6 lb box in the tourney for 2nd place. Mikes son caught the big fish for the day on the GLF boat he even made Mike give him the money that was funny. Congrats to Mike and the GLF crew for winning today with a 76lb box. I caught fish inside the arms today and caught all of our fish inside 50ft south troll in 40 ft was best. Should have entered the sheephead in the Siggs contest as it was the only fly bite but did not think to take a pic till it was back in the water. We setup slightly south in 40 ft and caught fish before we got the gear set several boats never left the outer arms and caught nice fish. Yellow tail dn 25 on rigger took 2 nice fish Ludington Glow on 5 color took a nice King. All in all a great day on the water lots of boats drove right on past the fish this morning.
  6. He should be able to do a live feed but it will be bandwidth dependant since he is doing this out on the lake. There is little chance he is going to be able to maintain bandwidth all the time. So it is safer to just put it in photo mode as a photo can be resent repeatedaly untill it goes thru and is a single file transfer.
  7. I use the red clips with the pin at the back of the board and have changed all of my front releases to the new orange ones. As long as you insert the line past the pin on the back release it will not come off and it won't slide down. You can clip them on braid and they will stay put.
  8. I don't know about being the best but I have been using my Okuma rods and Diawa rods for years and love them. I have a set of Diawa Firewolf medium light rods for down riggers that are a flat out blast to catch fish on. With the smaller fish we have been getting the last few years I have went to lighter gear. I even started using my 10ft Steelhead rods on the boat with 8 lb test line is like marlin fishing cause you have to catch em with the boat.
  9. I have found the fish seem to bite better after you get a couple of crew members chumming.
  10. One other thing to consider with your leader length is how much gear you are running. If you have 4 riggers set longer leaders tend to end up grabbing your gear on the way down Esp when the waves get you bounceing around. This is why I run 9ft and 10ft diver rods so I can get the diver away from the boat and other gear.
  11. I stay short on flasher flies and long as the rod will allow on spoons but most of my leaders are 6ft for spoons and 3 or 4 ft for flasher flies. If the diver brings fish into the spread I want the next thing they see to be dinner.
  12. We got our gas money back so that helped I won't even try the math on this one as to what actual cost was.
  13. We donated the lakers but here is a pic of the 4 kings we caught Sun and one of my son and Grand daughter with 2 of the bigger kings. Had a great weekend with very tough fishing but still got to get my son on the boat for the first time since I bought it. Going to take all the grand kids for boat rides tommorrow.
  14. The sad thing is I was on Lakers big time Sat morn and moved off to find kings they were all small lakers but would have been points. I had no idea 10 small lakers would have moved me way up on the board. I knew several boats were headed for the point so was looking to find some big kings to fill the box. When we came in Sat with 2 little lakers I sent one of the crew in to weigh and never looked at the board I figured we were in last place or close to it. Did the same thing Sun with the 5 we weighed was at the gas docks when the guys came back with the cooler and said we were in the money so had to hang out and get the check.
  15. In light of current fishing conditions I thought I would bump this backup for discussion. If my thoughts were correct last fall than we are in trouble this fall. I don't mean that we won't have any fish I just recall last fall's run was very short it was a decent run but breif one or 2 big push's and we were fishing steelhead out deep while guys were trying to pick away at the straglers.
  16. This was a very tough weekend fishing was slow and running hard in 1 to 3 ft waves at 30 mph was not much fun. I do hope someone got some pics of my boat airborn cause you can really tell you are moving when you hear the prop come out of the water and brace for impact. But hey that is tournament fishing you make a plan and live and die with it. All in all I would still do it over had a great time with my son and some friends though I may have a hard time talking them into fishing in a tourney with me again cause we fished hard all weekend and it may be a few days before they can walk upright again.
  17. Muskegon is a nice event to fish not a lot of paperwork or funky rules no run times. Leave on time and get back on time pretty simple. What you choose to fish in and how hard you want to push it to win is up to you. After finding nothing but Lake trout Fri we went north Sat and got 3 small Lakers one too short. So we decided after seeing the reports from Port Sheldon if it was not better this morn we would make the run. So we burned 107 bucks in fuel today and 112 Sat made 12th place which paid 225. but we had a good time and my son got to fish with me I was amazed to even make the payout list we nearly left without even checking the board.
  18. Beats my 1 for one day we got a small Laker about 4 or 5 lbs that was tossed back hope he remembers we treated him decent and brings freinds and family tommorrow to visit. Can't remember getting this few fish for this long a bad week or 2 is one thing but has been shut down for over a month with very few fish boated at least no skunks yet.
  19. Hey guys I just found this the 333 can be fished as a stand alone event at Muskegon and several other ports this year. So here is a chance to go out and grab a few of them bigger fish lurking out front without paying the big money to enter the full tourney. http://www.tournamenttrail.net/333only.htm Well any how hope to see a few of you at the Captains meeting Fri night. Have no clue where I am gonna find 20 fish this weekend but sure am gonna try.
  20. Looked at a couple of these today and gagged when I saw the price they look cool but for 23 bucks plus tax I don't think so. Would like to see how they pull behind boards but the dive chart compares to a magnum diver at 2.5 mph and I have to think they would nearly sink a standard board. Anyone use any of them yet? I think I am going to make a set of my own to try was thinking I could just put a couple of fins in a peice of 1/2 conduit and fill it with lead might take a couple of trys to balance it out but would do the same thing for a lot less money.
  21. Looking forward to eating them on Sun after the tourney great job again Jay. We are set for the weekend Steve will be there Sun and John will be there Sat so all we need to do is locate some fish and it's on.
  22. Ok here it is my son is fianally going to be here to fish in a tourney this weekend. By the time he gets here he will have flown close to 20,000 miles this week and the fish are gone. I don't really think we can win but would at least like to catch some fish. So I sure could use some help finding the fish if anyone is pre fishing this week would love some insite. Fri is the only day I can prefish so will be out for a few hours but honestly don't have much of a idea on where to fish. I guess we will likely go way north and out deep. Or just head west to the state line not really sure but aside from a ocassional big fish or 2 there don't appear to be any fish here right now. Any ideas guys?
  23. I wonder if there is a award for the most miles traveled to fish this if so I think my son should win that he left Afganistan Sat was in Dallas this morn and should be landing in Anchorage as I type this. Wed morn he gets on a plane to come here my guess is he will have close to 20,000 miles on him by the time we fish this weekend. To bad the military does not give out frequent flyer miles he has been around the world 6 or 7 times now.
  24. Nice job at least the box did not stink heard you on the radio but not sure if you heard me. with the two evening trips and only 3 fish total for the weekend I am going to guess I trolled at least 8 miles per fish not very good.
