  1. Headed out in a little while if my brother ever shows up will report later nice job on the doubles. We did all of our fish in 165 last night will see where they are tonight.
  2. I just turned mine way down and headed north away from the mess.
  3. Out with Steve from work on his boat 4 for 5 everything 70 to 100 dn in 165FOW all on Moonshine spoons. 1 Small king about 2 lbs and 1 about 12 lbs the other 2 were 15 lbs or a little better. All fish caught between 8:45 and 9:30 pm nice night of listening to all the arguements about running each others lines over it has began. We drove away from the pack and had tons of water to ourselves.
  4. Nice job Don I will be out this evening in a friends boat fish are all waiting for me just got to drive out and get em.
  5. I have run up to a 5 color as a SWR and have considered sending down a full core a time or 2 when I just could not seem to get deep enough. I have ran 2 SWR rigs but off my out and downs in a W pattern with a 3 color on my Port and a 2 color on Starboard and running the rear riggers up above them but my boat is wider 96" with a 4 ft arm out each side making them close to 15 ft apart. You really have to have a 3d map in your head as to where all your gear is and then conditions will also dictate what you can get away with. Last night I had one of my divers pop and come up into my 300 copper and we got a dbl while trying to clear the mess so this evening I had a pile of copper to untangle but everything is ready to go for tommorrow night and the weather looks much friendlier as it was pretty nasty last night never mind the 1 to 3 ft the forecast called for it was a easy 3 to 5 with some much bigger stuff thrown in.
  6. Well just got the copper detangled no serious kinks will be out tommorrow night to get a few more. Not sure which boat we are using mine or Steve's 17 but will be out around 6:30 tommorrow night.
  7. They work great so far Joe I don't run em as much as I should but no issues with the rods. I have to make a correction the fish were 12.7 lbs and 15.2 lbs.
  8. I read that they don't want you to wind the 19 strand on tight just light pressure then head for deep water and let it all out with a 1 lb ball on it and reel it back in to set the line or you will have problems with it. I am thinking I will just stick with my dependable 7 strand wire zero hassles might not tie as nice but does not lose when it bumps other things in the water.
  9. Out for a few hours this evening very lumpy 3 to 5 ft waves that did not begin to let up untill we pulled lines at 10PM. Fish moved back out a bit ended 4 for 5 with one 17 and one 15lb fish both caught while we were detangling my copper which got into a diver what a mess I will have to clean up later cause we threw the whole mess in the cabin while fighting the dbl. The 17lb king destroyed a Nitro Blue Killer dn 90ft bent the spoon into a peice of junk like a chrushed beer can. The 15lb came on a Moonshine Flounder Pounder dn 80ft 3rd fish came on Siggs Rig bk 250 on a braid diver don't remember which one or what flasher it had in front of it. Last fish in the box was on a 300 copper with a Moonshine Hi NRG. Lost one on a diver with a Yellow tail spoon set 230 bk all in 150FOW and all in about 45 min or so other than that a lumpy boat ride.
  10. Way to go I love to tight line rainbows in lakes I grew up close to Half Moon lake in Muskegon and have caught thousands of them. only a few over 17in but when the bite is on it is a blast. There are a lot of well stocked lakes to choose from and most of the plants are legal size when planted and pretty tasty now I miss my little boat.
  11. No problem Mike I can second guess myself now as to if I made the right boat choice but at the moment all I could think was that has to be a huge fish to rip line like it was.
  12. here are a few of my setups starting at the top are tandam Gamakatsu Octopus on 30lb Gamma Flouro leader with glow beads between the hooks. Below them left to right is a Mustad 2x strong octopus hook behind a Owner 2x strong treble on 40lb Gamma Flouro with another same setup below that then to the right is a single Owner 2x strong on 40lb Gamma. I tie all of these myself and they have not failed yet if you sink one of these into a Salmon it is coming home with you. This is one of my combat and nighttime favorites this actual one was made last night but I have been making these for years. Oh and this was a Siggs Apple Glow when I started. Not sure if it would still qualify for the Siggs photo contest anymore and Mike said I could not run them like this in the Tourny that was canceled because it was modified well actually I only told him about the glow beads between the hooks. Which I can under stand totally that it is a big change and could be unfair to everyone else so I agreed to run the lures as packaged for the event. But after I got home last night I played online poker and tied up a few setups. I keep a few boxes of building supplies on the boat I guess it goes back to my fly fishing where I always carry every fly I think might work and stuff to build differant ones right on the river to match the hatch. Heres the best part there is no better feeling in the world then catching fish on gear you build yourself at the prices I pay for some of my supplies I am not saving money on this except for when I buy in bulk but knowing I can count on what the fish is hooked to is priceless.
  13. Had a great time messy is a understatement I take the blame for the mess as Mike's 16.5 lb fish was fighting more like 53lbs and he was getting spooled so I slowed down which gave him a chance to gain line but all the other gear got in the way. So had to pull lines and detangle which was working till I got another fish on a tangled 3 rod mess. When my fish decided to swim a few laps around the center rigger I decided to not lose Mikes fish and clean up the mess afterword. Suprisingly enough we only lost the Silver Horde my fish left with even though 2 setups were cut off in the 3 rod mess when I got every thing reeled back in all we had lost besides our minds and some line was the Silver Horde. Again thanks for the great evening Mike hope to do it again or maybe get you out with me sometime. I really like your setup and may make a few changes on mine after seeing how you do things.
  14. Great job and nice chatting with you guys at the dock and on the radio. It was a good evening to fish even with the wave size cause they were pretty nice rollers not a lot of chop to em mostly up and down.
  15. Thanks for all the hard work putting this together Mike bummer mother nature did not feel like being nice to us. I picked up my lure package tonight and then went out fishing with Mike and the boys for a few hours lots of rollers but very fishable had us discussing whether or not canceling was the right choice but Mike had to make a call and from the sound outside right now I think he got it right as there are only a few of us who could fish in 3 to 5 ft waves and there is little chance to rescheduale this late in the season. I will let Mike post the report on how we did since we did more scouting then fishing sort of. I had a great time and look forward to the rest of the season. Again Thanks for all the hard work and the great lure package Mike
  16. Sounds like a good time Nick weather is lumpy to say the least lately either I have to work or the weather sux guess I should work weekends so the rest of you can fish LOL.
  17. It is a old spoon that still works just as well as it did when it was a new spoon however telling everyone that you can still catch fish with last years lure does little to sell new lures. Also most guys as they enter a bait shop look at the board to see what the " Hot Lure" is and you can bet it won't ever be a old lure. I actually think most lure manufactures are more concerned with catching fishermen than fish. I know I have a lot of lures that have caught more fishermen than fish. I still have a couple of LOCO spoons I bought in the early 70's that have probably caught more fish then some of the guys reading this. I hardly ever run them anymore mostly cause I would cry if I lost one of them as one of them caught a near state record Laker in 1975 just over 50 lbs on a non certified scale record was about 54 or something at the time. I wish I could find the pics of that fish but they are long gone I am sure. Another lure you seldom hear about people fishing which used to be my go to lure for combat fishing is the Flatfish or Lazy Ike you have to troll them a little slow but I have a couple of them that have also caught a lot of fish and my bet is still will if I run them. But Again no one wants you to catch fish with stuff you already have they want you to buy the latest and greatest new and improved super lure and gear on sale in aisle 3 just past the Banjo Minnow display. So odds are the reason you haven't caught a fish on one of them old lures is you are not getting it wet.
  18. Sunday is better for me will have my regular crew thanks for early notice Mike.
  19. I don't run as many singles on spoons as I used to but may start using more again on flies and meat singles rule.
  20. very nice Mike looking forward to making you work them hard to keep up. It is about time for a 100lb box they are out there waiting for us.
  21. Did not have my boat so only used my gtm 40 on the deep rigger in 165 fow down temp 70 dn was 52.1. Steve only has 8 lb balls so tough to get real deep had 115 ft of cable dn to hit 70 on the probe blow back was bad so did not try and push em any deeper. After sundown lots of fish 85ft down to the bottom but no takers.
  22. went 2 for 3 tonight first fish right away about 7 pm setting up in 105FOW a Glow frog pattern spoon on a rigger 85 dn. Then went 1 for 2 in 165 FOW on a green killer pattern Spin Doctor with a green fern fly on 2 300 back other than that just a nice night on the water. Marked fish from 100 to 180 all from 85 ft to the bottom but no takers average size fish one about 7 and one about 4 lbs. Heard no reports of any big fish taken but most got a few eaters Flat water was nice to see and fish in.
  23. They are calling for 3 to 5 ft waves Sat with possible small craft advisary. If this holds thru tommorrow night I am going to plan on fishing Sun and not burn the gas to see what Sat has to offer.
  24. My best guess having not been out in a few days is 70 to 90ft fish the bottom 40ft flasher flies and maybe J Plugs on core or copper.
