I guess one of the things tha bothers me is how can the ABC CNN NBC CBS news groups all say how popular this load of crap is when I can't find a single person who supports it and loks forward to when they get all their agenda in place. Where do the approval polls come from that we here about every day. Even on sites with people who praised OBAMA as a the next God they pretty much all respond to any real questions by blameing the Bush administration for leaveing a mess. Obama wants us all to think he got stuck with a big mess no one wants to talk about his part in creating it. He was one of the Lawyers who along with ACORN and other groups sued the banking system because they did not give out more junk mortgages which forced the banks to buy homes for millions of people who could not repay the loans. This inflated the value of homes and made a huge false economy. And the first thing he does in office is Spend a few trillion dollars we don't even have devalueing our dollar further. Why is gold going up in value it is because our dollar is going down. Gold has never gone up or down in value very much in a thousand years a ounce of gold will buy about the same amount of stuff today as it did when we were a colony. The only difference is how it compares to our dollar. When we left the Gold Standard gold was 40 dollars a ounce since we print money based on nothing it has gone up a college study I can't remember the exact name and date, but it was close to 20 years ago found that if we had to go back on the gold standard to cover our currency then would put the price of gold at close to 3500 per ounce and we have printed many trillions more since then. In 1978 I made 8.50 a hour today I make 18.00 at a part time job I am lucky to have. here is a now verses then see if we are better off. I am sure I lost money in the deal. Gas was around .60 a gallon now pretty much 3.00 smokes were .35 a pack now 6.00 Gallon of milk .50 now 3.00 a new ford f 150 3800.00 now 28000.00 avg home 35000.00 now 150000.00 Mc Donalds Hamburger .15 now .99 In 1978 we had been off the gold standard roughly 15 years go back to the mid 50's when were on the gold standard and a avg home could be bought for 3000.00 to 5000.00 so a home could be bought with 75 to 80 ounce of gold. So if you take the same rough numbers forward to today it would make gold well over 2000.00 a ounce. My dad paid 1250.00 for the house and 2.5 acres with a garage that I was born in it was on the market a few years ago for 175000.00 and it sold. We sold it for 12,000.00 in 73 when we moved. In real world terms I made more money in 1978 than I do now.

I agree with Mike on the Stinger spoons they like everyone else have a place in the box and in the spread. It don't matter if they are painted or stickered fish have teeth so if you catch fish they are gonna get beat up. If you don't catch fish it should not be a problem. Keep in mind even though our water clarity is getting better color only has a effect on the last few feet of a approaching fish. This is another reason I troll on the fast side all the time I can cover more water and the fish don't have a lot of time to ponder weather or not they want to bite. My goal is to find aggressive active fish and invite as many as I can to dinner.

You know the thing is every year it is a new fad in lures we will all get bored and wander into sporting shows and bait shops all winter and come spring most of us will have a whole bunch of shiny new lures we can't wait to get wet. That said here are 10 lures I won't fish without. I had a hard time staying under 300 spoons to start the year and we bought more all season. Perhaps I will do a actual inventory this winter but the problem is my wife knows how much they cost so not sure I want any written record of what I spent.

Very funny Don we'll see how you feel when your kids and grand kids look at you as some form of villian because you like to hunt and fish and that is cruelty to animals. I suppose you could take up needlepoint till they realize the yarn is shaved off sheep and they might get cold without it.

Best way I know of to tell if the Perch are in is if there are any minnows avail if the bait shop is sold out on Fri they are in.

I guess I get concerned about what are considered rights anymore cause as soon as they decide some new thing is a right not a priviledge they want me to help the deadbeats pay for it. I have read the Bill of Rights many times and a lot of crap we now have to pay for others to have is not listed there but yet many that are there are being taken away. Worse yet is the schools training our children new versions of history they used to say you can't change history but from when I went to school many of the books have changed. Teachers are adding way too much of their personal opinions to the classroom rather than sticking to the facts. Kinda like much of the news on TV not sure I want to hear the opinions of a news reporter who gets a tingle in his legs as a man who won't even provide his actual birth cert is made our President.

One thing to keep in mind is matching the trolling speed to the lure some troll better fast some troll better slow. I run a lot of Moonshine lures cause they are heavy and troll well fast most every lure company has similar lure colors so getting the speed and action to match your fishing approach is a big factor. and when you find a presentation that works run lots of it. I have also found that some lures attract fish into the spread but don't trigger a bite. More than once we have changed a dead lure to have the rest of the spread go flat cause the dead lure was bringing them in so once we are getting steady hits I prefer to not change anything even if it means we are working 2 or 3 rods and the rest are washing cause a lot of times I think they come over to see what is going on but don't hit then the next lure goes by and they grab it.

Well I guess I will be seeing the ol Dirty Dog in my home port more often after he gets her fixed. Lots of good choices out there Terry match that with some great deals and you probably can't lose. Are you going to stay in the same size class and trailer or maybe move up?

Don I started with Church boards and had a lot of trouble with them. I went with my father in law to a Salmon seminar at his church held by Love it Charters they were very adament about their methods much of what they said was do it this way period. So that year I did and my results went way up. The folowing year they did another seminar and I went again and this time I took better notes and listened. They again were very straightforward pounding a very simple approach this time I had many more questions and got good answers. I have talked to them and others many times over the following years and figured out their basic idea which was not to teach every thing just to set a basic plan based on what worked for them. Of course they did not give out many of their secrets but what they did was build a solid starting game plan that would put most anyone on fish into catching them. They setup basic conditions that the average guy would really see. As such they only gave a few setups for each but they were solid on several things which I am also still doing. Off Shore boards set to release from the front but not slide down the line which allows them to trip and fall in behind the boat when hit or when changing lures. I made a change in my boards last spring which I am going to change back in my front clip I went from the black clip which tripped too often to the orange clip which seldom tripped this year. I lost a lot of fish on 2 and 3 color rods this year because the boards would not trip so my outside boards are going back to lighter releases. Other things they were pushing was Owner hooks and Ande mainline with gama Flouro leaders. They said to never use factory fly setups and showed us how to make our own with Gamma Flouro and Owner hooks. They really kept it simple down to about 6 Flasher fly combo's 4 or 5 spoons and a couple of J plugs. I have not kept it simple I have hundreds of spoons and flasher fly setups I will run but much of it is modeled on a simple program and now when I have a bad day I know it is just that a bad day and I will likely run the same stuff again next time out. When I leave the dock most days every rod allready has the lure and setup it will run for most of the trip. The only time I make a major setup change is when the fish are not where I setup for or if the weather report is completely wrong and we know how seldom that is LOL. If you like making lots of lure and setup changes I am boring to fish with because I make most of my changes with the boat driving and location till I dial in a pattern. But I was able to pretty much promise you would take home fish if you went with me ( might be a bag of frozen filets if we had a bad day). I am by no means a world class fisherman but I do allright for a old fat hippie with a attitude.

I did the math several times this year I seriously doubt I will live long enough to retire At least if I want the mortgage paid off I will be 80.

I may consider it Mike but tried to do it last year to get the last 12 to make 200 and got skunked 2 trips in a row. So most likely I will just put the boat away my goal for the year was 200 fish and we stomped that so maybe ending on a great trip with friends is the way to go. I am pretty sure I could go get the last 5 but I was also pretty sure I could get the last 12 last year so as it stands right now 44 trip 2 skunks for the year and 295 fish total is nearly 7 fish per trip avg so I am pretty happy with that.

Went fishing with Jay and Steve tonight for our last big lake trip of the season started out with a nice fish in 45ft and hung out there a while looking for more. Moved out to around 80ft picked up a couple more moved back in and got nothing so figured we had 3 in the box and just pointed west and trolled Fishfinder and rods lit up in 120ft and we went 4 for 7 in a about a hour with several tangles due to fish not wanting to stay in their lanes and running into the other gear. So we finished 7 for 11 overall a decent night I had considered fishing Sat but we burned most of the gas I planed on using so when we got back to the dock I decided to call it a season had a great night with 2 great friends not gonna top that. No big fish all nice eaters 5 kings and 2 Steelhead the 4 we lost were all Steelhead that refused to play fair. Jay brought some Venison Jerky which was great and we ate like kings and had a good time going over our summer of fishing. I have not corrected my final talley sheet as to how many of what but the final number for all fish kept is 295 and I have been able to provide lots of friends and family with fish for dinner all season. So thats it folks I am going to take the boat out for a final ride to make sure the Stabil is well mixed and ran thru the fuel system and get the toilet pumped out and winterize the boat. So to all my friends I am going to have to meet you on the pier or on the rivers or lakes till next April got a new Steelhead rod and the Whitefish will be here soon time to put the boat away. Mark you have the intent on Cap and Trade however the reality is that companies will be allowed to trade credits this only means higher prices for us as the cost of trading the credits will be passed on to the consumer. If you live in a area where all you have is a Coal power plant you will see the cost of the credits every month in your electric bill. the simple fact is if we let the government play Big Brother and run every part of lives it is our own fault.

Solar is cool but 600 bucks to produce 100 watts per panel and that is a 2ft x 4 ft panel and only when the sun shines brightly on it so 600 buck to light a couple of 50 watt bulds during the day makes little sense. Simple fact is we have to learn to use less electricity I guess the massive cost of cap and trade will teach us that pretty soon. Coal and hydro plants are the cheapest Nuclear is best but no one wants one around them much like oil refineries every one knows we need new ones no one will let them be built so we work with outdated plants. Try and ask Al Gore why there are so many lies and miss information in his book and movie and they just shut off your microphone. Over 700 sceintists were asked to study Global Warming nearly 650 of them said there was nothing to it that could be proved want to guess which studies were used to teach our kids and build our new Green future. Oh yea and Polar bears are increasing and the climate has not gone up in temp in nearly 10 years. When I was a kid in school we were told we are on the way for a ICE AGE look up the time lime lines and history will repeat itself many sceintists beleive if there is anything at all to Global Warming it will only slow the on coming ICE AGE. I don't think we are approaching a ICE AGE like a million years ago more like 250 years ago. Very long winters Record snowfalls time will tell but one thing is certain if you trust what you see on the TV you are a in for some rude suprises.

Is anyone happy with the shape of our current government and them taking over every aspect of our economy and lives? I fear for my kids and grandkids and the quality of life they have to look forward to. At current rate the dollar will be about the same as the Peso in in less than a decade cap and trade will quadruple energy cost that means your gas and electric bill. It appears they will pass a health care bill that has not even been written yet and since they passed the useless recovery bill without reading it I guess it won't matter that they will vote on something not even written yet. We print and spend trillions of dollars we do not have anyone wonder where it will be paid back from. The answer is you children and grand children get the bill just as you pay for your parrents and grand parents SSI and retirement your kids get the bill for this pile of crap. When the smoke clears and the coming war is over I wonder what the new flag will look like?

Does anyone actually do the math on this crap or do we just let them shove it down or throats. I live in a 1500 sq ft 3 bedroom house with a garage current electric budget is about 65 a month. Cost to convert to wind power which will not give me power 24 7 so I will be selling some power back and buying some all at differant rates. 225,000.00 with a annual maintaince of roughly 1000 or more per year plus a 10 year life expectancy on the 8000.00 gen set. I don't care how many coats of lipstick they put on this pig it still is ugly.

Snowsnake is a nitro spoon Steelhead candy is a chrome spoon with a brownish orange paint. Looks like crap but takes lots of fish. both kings came on riggers all the steelhead came on 5 color setups. trolling fast 4.3 to 5.8 GPS

Nice job Dennis we were giving up at 3 for 4 when we last talked on the radio decided to just troll in with the wind and waves at our backs picked up a dbl in 55ft landed both Steelhead turned around ran back out and came back across my mark and hit a second double which we lost one as I asked John to drop the speed down and he put the boat in reverse a little to far back on the ol lever. By the time I got the boat straightened back out my fish was gone. I am going back out again later this week for a afternoon trip with Jay and Steve. Fish count is now up to 288 for the season no Lakers counted as all but a few were released. Fishing is great right now not sure why anyone would put their boat up early when the fall Steelhead is some of the best fishing out there.

Left the dock at 2:45 back in by 7:00 4 nice Steelhead 2 Kings one about 8 lbs the other about 2 2 of the Steelhead were over 10 lbs. Steelhead candy and Snowsnake took most of the fish on a 5 color between 60 and 100 ft right out front. 6 for 8 not bad for shorthanded in strong winds and building waves.

Well my project is finished time to get the boat wet again before hibernation. Any Ideas on a good plan I am thinking of just working the 20 to 60 ft range out front and a little north and south. Not sure how many brave souls I can get on the boat in this weather. Thinking of a early spring pattern small plugs and spoons maybe hot and tots or thin fins. Any Ideas?
