Mike even with the clickers on they spin but your reel have better clickers than mine or perhaps you still have the brakes set from the factory. I can cast pretty good with my clickers on should tighten them up a bit and try it. Or buy some better reels my braid divers are on a set of DAM 45LC reels I picked up on sale 4 years ago.

Robert that boat is for sale in Grand Haven they bought a new 54 I beleive. So I think you could own it if you call North Shore in Grand Haven. Just think only about 40 gal of diesel per hour at full cruise but it is a mighty impressive boat it is also the one I picked for Terry to replace the old Dirty Dog with LOL.

My boat sits in my back yard neighbor has doberman's and would love a excuse to unload his pistols. So everything stays on mine but I live in a rural area and everyone pays attention to the neighborhood most have guns and dogs as well.

Mike if I am resetting a line that just took a fish I loosen the drag a lot more so it goes down faster. I have just had too many spin going down and that sucks 2 times last year I had guys let them go down without the drag and lost the entire setup cause the diver spun and cut the line. I run my riggers down with the drag on as well keeps the line tight and when you hit your depth you just set the drag and adjust the rod.

Mike so does my buddy Steve and never has a issue with his gear. Maybe mine free spools to easy I could set the brakes a bit and be ok I suppose. But I am fine with the way mine work and like Don said hearing your diver take a rip on the way out is too cool. I can't say how many times I have been sending the divers out to like 120 only to have them clobbered at 80 out.
-
Yep never just let them out I always set em in the rod holder and pull them along side the boat for a few seconds to watch them if they look right I loosen the drag and let them work out on their own. No tangles and can set other lines while doing it another advantage is many times I have had them take fish on the way out. I have friends I have fished with for years and they are not allowed to set my divers out cause they allways want to send them down fast.

I stopped by the storage yesterday and said hi to my boat this year is going to be great I am first in line to get out. Actually mine is dead in front of the door so mine has to come out in order to get any other boats out. Much better than last year when mine was behind like 40 or 50 boats. Being one of the last boats in has it's advantages. Oh yea Mike I said hi to your boat as well it seemed lonely.

Ever Try to Remove Paint from a Boat?
1mainiac replied to Paulywood's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
Ok no chemicals then use heat a good heat gun and a putty knife will remove the bulk of the paint use the wire brush to get areas that don't scrape clean easy. Paul is also correct about getting the right Stripper She is about 5' 6" LOL. Or was that what caused my second divorce memory is kinda fuzzy from back then LOL. -

Ever Try to Remove Paint from a Boat?

Nick its called paint stripper nasty messy stuff but will leave you with clean metal. Put a tarp under it to collect the mess. Paint it on in sections work slow it likes warm weather last one I did I painted it on and let it sit till nearly dry then took a putty knife and the paint came off in sheets. -
I have a set of the Off Shore lights but don't use em they work but the batteries cost a ton and don't last very long. I put glow tape on my flags while it does not glow long enough or very bright you can find them with a spotlight very easy.

This just in I am running out of space on my website for sponsors LOL no really I just want everyone to know that I had a great chat with Lance from Z Boards this evening and welcome them as our newest sponsor. We are going to work out the final details at the Grand Rapids Show. In any event we are getting a lot of great response from sponsors and I really think this is going to become a don't miss set of events.

Hey guys I sure would like to see a few more boats signed up we are getting a pretty good list of sponsors going and most of them are planning on using our sign up sheets as a idea of how much stuff they need to provide. Is a simple thing more boats equals more sponsor interest. Don and myself are not doing this to make a profit we hope the membership fee's will cover our costs that is it. All sponsor provided items will be awarded at events. These guys are not sponsoring me they are sponsoring the events. Once everything is gathered I will post a list of what all the sponsor prizes are and how they will be awarded. All tournament entry fees will be paid out 100%. Here is a list of current sponsors. Captain Gary's Bauer Sheet metal Alltimit Fishing Guide Service Siggs Riggs Papa Bears Resturant Great Lakes Angler Magazine Silver Streak Lures I am hoping to add a couple more at the fishing show This is going to be a lot of fun and I really want everyone to enjoy it.

I have a couple of rods with 30lb Ande pink they have dragged in a lot of fish over the years. But I am taking the line off them as they will be my new 150 copper rods. The fish never complained about the line color. I usually buy line colors based on line test green for 20 blue for 25 pink for 30 leaders are always clear and nearly always 20lb. I however bought a bunch of Big Game line last year on sale 20 and 25 it was all green so much for color coding LOL.

Hey Kevin you have done a pretty job of making sense of this I will be in it I still kinda think the season is too long and yu should do like the LOC in NY. And break it to 3 seasons so a guy does not buy a ticket the last week and win in all.

Orange green and blue are what works for me mostly blue behind a small orange dodger.

Personally I went back to finned round balls the problem is what helps make them track well and reduce blowback is what gives you the most problems. I know for a fact that lots of guys love them. Most put a 5 degree bend in the tail to make them kick out and this helps a lot but you have to make sure you put them on the right side. However the first time you turn in a strong current and they get tied together under your boat you will know why many of us dislike them round balls are less affected by under water currents. My other issue with them is they don't fit in my ball cradles so I can't run with them on. I have forgotten to remove my 15lb round balls and drove home with them still in the cradles not something I would recomend but I routinely pull lines and run with them in the cradles with zero issues with the pancakes I have to remove them.
-
They will work great one day and drive you nuts the next LOL. However you will know exactly which way the current is under your boat. First make sure that if the tail fins are bent they are oppisite of each other. The reason to bend the tail fins is to get them to track wider however put them on the wrong sides and they will swim together. I have a 15 that I use on my probe rigger and it will swim into my other rigger on turns so I don't use it much. You will love the reduced blowback but the first time you get them tied together under your boat and odds are you will most of us have at least once you will like me wonder if they are worth the money.

hit the river
1mainiac replied to fishsniffer's topic in Rivers and Streams Fishing Reports - Walleye
Nice Don very nice. All I did was sit around the house today. -
I guess the reason I say kinda small is my cv55l holds 520 yds of 30lb and the Saltist reel he is talking about holds 350 yds of 30lb. I have nearly been spooled a couple of times on my 300 copper so I am changing out the backer to power pro. I want to add a 450 copper this year but need to buy another reel for it. I am taking a couple of my old rod and Reel combo's and making them into 150 coppers so I can compare them to my full cores.

They are also running a boat entry division where you register the boat. http://www.loc.org/ The LOC I am looking at is also broken down into 3 season a spring derby a summer derby and a fall derby. Another question is who keeps the fish to have it available for all the testing listed in the LOC rules. All my big fish go in the smoker would suck to have someone demand I bring the fish in for testing after it has been smoked. Or will the weighmaster be required to pull a sample from each fish and store it in case testing is required.

Hey Nick I am playing devils advocate and tossing out possible issues and problems. The simple fact is much of this is rules that really can't be enforced evenly for every situation. Since the tournament is pretty much the entire big lake salmon season you have a couple choices if you enter one is to treat the entire season as a contest or consider it a lottery ticket and hope you get lucky. If it is a contest we have a right to try and win if not I guess you can spend the money and hope you get lucky and get your big fish on a legal day and if everyone on the boat is a entrant than only the guy holding the lucky rod wins so you would have to have a agreement with everyone on the boat to share or there will be issues. Again I like the idea but the devil is in the details here is a example you invite your buddy at work to fish with you as a fill in for your team and he gets a winning fish and decides to keep all the money are you really gonna say stuff happens or is there going to be hard feelings. I can see my deadbeat brother walking off the with the winning fish and as usual not even helping with boat gas. I can also see people demanding a share of the winning prize or refusing to sign a witness statement.
-
Kevin first off I am just throwing out problem ideas as I think of them this type of thinking should help you prepare for situations that will come up. Really I would think that just like boats everyone on the pier should be required to enter as well to make it fair for those of us who spent thousands for our spot to stand and fish. The winning fish can be caught at anytime Ask Vince about the 30lber they dragged in the rod holder for several min before he had someone grab the rod. Honestly the way this sounds so far I would have to put together a group based solely on fishing this and not allow any one without a entry on the boat after the 4th of July.
