Weather Call and will be made tommorrow night right now it looks bleak unless this front stalls or changes direction soon. Here are our options if the weather man is correct we can A: fish on Sunday which is mothers day and I lose part of my crew but can fish it or B: Make the next event a 2 day event and fish the 1st and second back to back on the same weekend. The way I see it we have 10 days set on the calander for this season and need to fish 5 of them to complete the series. Of the people I have talked to so far it is only about half are able to fish on Sunday. Myself I blocked out all of the event weekends so I can fish either day or both any of them. Don and me need some input guys so call or resond asap.

Well it appears Mother nature is making Sat morning look tough right now. So let me answer some questions I am sure many have 1st this is a fun event we will not fish in a small craft advisary so if it is posted for Sat morn they event will be canceled. At the moment it looks like Fri night will be the worst and it should be subsiding during the day on Sat. My and Dons number are on all the flyers and my number is on the website plus I will add it here 231-670-2879 I really would like to get some sleep Fri night so don't call me before 4:30 Sat morn please. Anyhow we will need a vote of those who are willing to fish Sun verses the idea of waitng till the following weekend personally my wife will understand if I fish on Mothers Day but I know not everyone can say that. I will be at the Muskegon Charter Assn seminar Thur night if anyone wants to meet up. SInce the weather report is wrong more than right unless a small craft advisary is set for Sat morn final decision will be made at or prior to roll call. I know this makes it tough for guys who are pulling their boats over here but many times I have seen a event canceled because of a weather report only to have it be a better day than the blow date. We can and may delay the start a couple of hours since the weater is supposed to be improving so we may delay the start up till 9 am which would still give everyone a 3 hour fishing period. Comments welcome thanks

By the time I was a teenager I was fishing a lot I managed to move away find new friends and break the addiction but unfortunatly my wife brought me back here and I fell in with a bad crowd and started fishing again now it is a addiction I have littel control over I find myself fishing more and more the cost of this is now way more than when I was a kid help please LOL

I use some Siwash singles on spoons but prefer sharp trebles on spoons Owner Trebles and Gamakatsu singles Siwash for spoons and Octopus for my flies all my hand tied fly setups are double Octopus singles on Flouroleader material. I may seem to have some of this backwards as I start with great hooks and terminal tackle and end with cheap rods and reels. But the fact is I can in a pinch replace a broken rod or reel and have even done it a few times with a fish on however when the leader breaks or the hook fails all you can do is reel it in and start over if the fish is stuck on a good hook and I can count on the line to hold I can drag one a bit while I swap out gear and retie.

2007 150 HP Mercury 2-stroked Carbed motors
1mainiac replied to gspsteel's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
There are some advantages to a carbed engine one being you can make minor adjustments with simple tools rather than a computer. But the fuel injection motors are rock solid and better on fuel the one drawback to all electronic engines is that the fuel system and computer draw a lot of power so while you see much bigger charging systems the engine uses most of the new found charging system up so not much net gain. As a life long mechanic I used to hate the new stuff mostly cause I had to buy new and expensive tools every year to work on them and because I have to go to differant schools all the time to learn how to fix things I have fixed for decades LOL. But reall I guess it would come down to how much I could save on the older motor and does it still have full warranty. I would also look at what it will be worth once you own it as the second it becomes yours it is just another outboard going on 4 years old. NADA shows 2 150hp 2strokes for 2007 both list as EFI engines and are under 6 grand in good cond as avg retail not that that means much but a peice of info to know if your bank wants a loan value or insurance replacement value. So if you bought it today for 7500 and someone stole it next week would you be stuck taking 5800 minus deductable for it from your insurance. I had a friend who bought a leftover car a few years ago thinking he got a great deal till his wife wrecked it and he lost nearly 3 grand on it. This however does not sound all that bad but you asked for opinions so I am giving you some things to add to your list of considerations LOL however I would not be afraid of it as a engine however as a wise way to spend money it is a toss up. The price however seems pretty close since that is a on the boat take it for a ride price I assume. -
Holland 5-2
1mainiac replied to DIRTY DOG's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Nice job Terry I farmed the first one in the rain not sure what it was it came off just after we pulled the board on a 5 color all I saw was a fish rolling on the surface. Other than the rain a darn nice day out there just not a lot of takers on the fish. Seemed like every time we made a change it was good for a fish but that was it. Setup in about 50ft and had the 1 I lost on right away and then nothing till we moved out and changed out the center rigger and pop instant fish reset it and never got a hit on it again. I changed out a diver and boom fish on reset it and nothing. Could not build a pattern fair amount of fish and some bait but zero duplicates. -
Any time I suspect a fuel problem I run it on a portable tank if the problem goees away you know where to look
-
Had similar issue 3 years ago truned out it was a bad set of plug wires which were new. But in what you describe I would be more suspect of a fuel problem sounds a lot like vapor lock which is caused when the fuel in the lines get too hot and turns to a vapor instead of a liquid since the pressure remains it will hold the float open but cannot get actual fuel into the carb. Try putting a wet rag on the fuel lines the evaporation from the wet rag will cool the fuel and stop any vapor lock if this fixs the problem you need to find a way to route cool air onto the fuel lines or a way to shield them from the heat. Another possibility is you have a bad fuel line or the fuel vent to the tank is plugged. Years ago a friend of mine chased a fuel problem in a snowmobile for months it was a dead bee in the gas tank when the tank got low enough it would suck the bee into the fuel intake and kill the motor let it set a min and it would restart and run perfect.

Just left Fishsniffer's house we sorted the prize package for the first event. Wow that's a lot of stuff because this one is the Silver Streak open they kicked in some extra spoons so every boat will get a couple of spoons this is a bonus for this event so lets all make sure the sponsors know how much we appreaciate their support. We still have a couple of sponsor packs that have not shown up yet but no worries the first event prize package looks like a pirates chest as is. Again we are doing this as a fun event and when it is over there are going to be a lot of guys who wish they had fished in it. See you all next week Sat for the season opener let the fishing begin.

Some Lake Superior Steel aboard the RELENTLESS
1mainiac replied to Daybreak's topic in Fishing Videos
turn off the HD and it works much better. -
Got mine a while back congrats on getting your ticket. I kept on taking test till I got my extra Got my General in Sept 04 and made Extra in feb of 05 keep going while all the rules are fresh in your head. I had to retake code twice to pass it the night I passed I took the extra for the heck of it and missed by 2 questions of getting it which would have taken me from tech to Extra in one test session. SInce I was that close I went back to the studying till I passed it.

May 6 - Muskegon Charter Boat Assn Workshop
1mainiac replied to Kings Around's topic in General Discussion
I will be there the last one was a great time lots of info -
Absolutly Joe ask me how many times over the years I have made the wrong choice I still caught fish but did not do well. I was picking away at fish a couple years ago in 300ft and doing fair when a friend calls me on the phone as he is heading in cause he boxed out in 40ft. Another time my wife and me were headed out in mid July out of Musk and the entire fleet was out in 80 to 120 not wanting to take my rookie fisherman wife into the combat zone I eased north a bit when the screen lite up. Spun the boat around setup in 45ft and made a north troll we were boxed out in under a hour with all nice kings now I bet 100 boats drove right past that pod of fish and the wife and me had the time of our lives with doubles and triples and the area to ourselves.

Keep in mind 39.6 deg is the heaviest water anything warmer or colder will be above it as it is lighter. SO if it is 39 on top it is 39 all the way to the bottom so as long as there is food out there and the temps are more stable there will always be fish out there but again last I checked filling the 100 galon tank on my boat cost money so if I can catch fish without emptying the tank I am all for it.

Exh manifold drains? -
There are always fish out deep but at the cost of fuel and the huge area you have to search to find them it is pretty much a last resort for me. So I try very hard not to drive over easy fish on my way out. There are pretty much always fish in closer if you can find them why burn the fuel going out deep. Most of the guys I know won't go any further than they have to in order to put fish in the box. Will I make a long run run to fish sure but not if I can find them closer.

Muskegon 4/23 pm
1mainiac replied to 1mainiac's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
They are Cedar and come with a Big Jon release on the front and the Off SHore red release with the pin on the back. And yes they pull way out when you drop em back behind the boat and set them it looks like they have a motor on them heading out to the side. When we ran them on Marks boat for the Brown blast we had to adjust our setup to make sure we put them far enough back to keep them from running over the inside boards. All I can say so far is I am very impressed they are light and have no problem with them yet with a fish on. I will try and get some better pics of them as the season rolls on. -

We were working 40 to 50ft pretty much right out front not a lot of action but 2 very nice kings in the box and a great way to spend a Fri evening. -
Went out with Don (Fishsniffer) for a few hours 3 for 3 all Kings. First fish came on a rigger with a Evil Alewive spoon 15lb King nice battle took several runs at the back of the boat but finally tired him out and Don netted him. Next fish was Don's 11in King LOL returned to lake don't remember what it hit on. Last fish on a 5 color with Jays ugly spoon a nice 12 lb King also made several run fron the back of the boat. A pretty good night all in all did not lose any gear and only messed up a couple poles due to tangles ran the Z Boards will see if my pics came out as it was getting dark. Thanks Don for a nice evening on the water next time we take my boat and see if it works as well.
