  1. I would imagine I am on that list most days however I also have been a supporting member for years and we don't always have to agree to coexist. I don't call people names or harass anyone I try to stay within site rules and decorum I am not interested in a free for all site nor am I interested in one run so tightly no one bothers to post on it anymore. You know as well as I that there will always be issues that people differ on you can't get this many members without opposing viewpoints. Heck if you cut the membership down to 5 or 6 you would still get issues. So if you have a hit list why don't you just publish it so those who are unwanted know who they are and can just leave. You brought it up I'm just voting on it if you want me and others to leave say so. I banned myself from Educated Angler I can leave here as well if that is what you want.
  2. Here's my take on Salmon fishing and I doubt more than a couple of guys on this site have fished lake MI longer than me for Salmon. A hungary salmon will eat darn near anything that fits in it's mouth. When they are active and feeding all it has to be is in front of them to get hit. When they go neutral you have to find something they can't pass up as one of the guys, Frank I beleive said like mints at the checkout in a resturant you are too full to eat yet you will grab a couple of mints out of the bowl when you check out. The list of lure's and combonations of lures I have caught salmon on is huge I have run a ton of stuff behind flashers and dodgers not as much behind Spin Doctors as they are newer on the market but the idea is similar. We used to run lots of cowbells with differant lures behind them and they still work in the muddy water. The current issue is we have cleaner water and as such you have to put more natural looking baits in front of them. Chrome and white used to be the big colors now it is greens and blues for the most part, the reason is the fish can see it further in clear water. I have never tried the fake meat I imagine it would work but again it has to look natural in the water and have the right roll or you are just looking for hungary or angry fish. I personally tend to troll pretty fast so a lot of the methods like this don't work for me.
  3. I suppose you could just ban us all and end any chance of seeing anything you don't like.
  4. No problem bro love your boat just got to get it on plane better and figure out why you have no midrange performance. the right prop will do most of that for you.
  5. apparently a no humor policy as well.
  6. well said Mike
  7. By attacking everyone who did not agree with him that is not voicing a opinion. Perhaps you did not read what he posted since a lot of his posts were removed. He blew up at me, when I called him on it he sent me a PM saying he was sorry and a hour later went off on me again and was quote calling me out like he was some gunfighter or something. Then he went into the WAAAY everyone is picking on me mood from there he pretty much called most every on the site dirty names. I had a difference of opinion with him he wanted to make it personal. We all have a right to our opinions you don't have to agree with what I think or say nor do I have to agree with you. However neither of us has the right to threaten or harass anyone. Mike was right to delete his posts he was vulgar and we have young people who visit this site. There are a bunch of us here and there are very few things we all agree on, that is fine. I would assume we all agree we like to fish but the how when where and why is different for each of us, as is the gear we use. What works for you and what is important to you may not be for me and vise versa. Trading ideas and sharing info is what the site is about the fact that we have a bunch of guys who differ in opinions makes for a interesting mix. Would you come here if all we were allowed to talk about was sponsor gear and if you used something different you were called names and harassed? Mike has to maintain a standard that allows us to be us and him to be him. As long as we stay within the lines and treat each other fairly it will work.
  8. I spent a morning taking pictures of one of them pro boats a few years back did not have a good camera so had to stay close to his stern to get pics he was using a lot of sign language. LOL
  9. Yep Mark have been out 3 or 4 times and zero issues ready to race anytime you want I know yours is faster but I will be gone by the time you get on plane LOL. It is getting close to my favorite time of the year fall Steelhead.
  10. My guess would be 16 to 18ft down I troll a 3 oz snap weight 50 back from the board in the Muskegon Channel and 2oz on the outside board. Channel is only about 28ft deep.
  11. Don't look like I will hit a hundred kings this year but my bet is I still get over 100 Steelhead before I put the boat away. Very Nice Brown I need a few more of those as well.
  12. My program is 300 copper on each side full core on ea side same as you were running. I don't care if he was a hundred year veteran I would have ended his day right there he would have been done fishing cause I would have spent the rest of the morning running his lines over. I know most of the guys who fish around here and they know me so we give each other as much room as we can. I have no problems with most of the charter guys now the bunch that will show up in the next few weeks for the run they are pretty much fair game.
  13. they are a great group and fish 5 events a year 3 out of Port Sheldon and 2 out of Muskegon. I don't like the 6 rod rule but I have fished in a lot of their events. If you are out of Muskegon and want to run more than 6 rods check out www.mscst.com we have one event left this year and it is Sat weather permiting. It is a 3 man DNR limit on fishing weigh your best 10 event ran as a club 10 dollar yearly membership 30 bucks per event to fish.
  14. I started back fishing on a 18ft Starcraft we had 2 riggers and 6 rods for divers ran up to 3 per side very few issues. I still run several divers for harbor patrol nice easy way to keep a bunch of lures close to the boat when in shallow water wire diver on 1 braid diver on 2 mono diver on 3 and slide diver on 4. Toss out the 2 riggers and troll the basin all day10ft wide on top 40 to 60ft wide at the bottom. 10 Plugs in formation hunting Kings LOL.
  15. Less than a week to go till our last event weather permiting. Still have not received a couple of the prize packages but hope to have them in time. However still a good chance for someone to grab the Purple Taco big fish money which is 100 bucks for biggest fish of the year. Port championship money will be determined once we have all the entry fees paid and payout will be 50% 1st place 30% second place 20% third place and what ever lure packages we have left will go for 4th place. 1st place will also get the guided river float trip provided by Alltimit Fishing. Still waiting on the 2nd and 3rd place prizes hopefully they will be here on time. Guys we have had a lot of great sponsors this year and I hope each of you will at least send them a email thanking them for their support so that when we set this up again next year they will be back to help again. While this is a just for fun event it has been very nice to pass out lure packages and prizes at every event and the fact that everyone has gotten at least a lure package at each event has been nice and for many I am sure the lure package alone was worth the cost of entry so let the sponsors know how much you appreaciate their support. Here is a list of our sponsors from this year. SILVERSTREAK LURES SILVERHORDE LURES Z BOARDS PRO TROLL FLASHERS SIGGS RIGGS FLIES PURPLE TACO FLY SUPPLIES BAUER SHEEL METAL AND FABRICATION PAPA BEARS RESTURANT CAPTAIN GARY'S ALLTIMIT FISHING GUIDE SERVICE DOCKERS RESTURANT MUSKEGON PORT AUTHORITY GREAT LAKES ANGLER SPECIAL THANKS TO DON'S WIFE PATTY FOR KEEPING EVERY THING ORGANIZED AND MAKING DON AND ME LOOK LIKE WE KNEW WHAT WE WERE DOING. I am sure there are a few others I should thank as well which I will but I do want you guys to all thank our sponsors cause without them all we had for the lure packages was the ziplock bags and we swiped them from Patty LOL.
  16. Or you can get a bunch of those bags plus tons of small bags and stuff them everywhere they will fit. Ask Jay every year he finds I have more stuff stashed on the boat he even helped me sort and inventory over the winter and still has no idea how many lures are on my boat LOL. I can say this don't just shove your hand in any opening cause odds are there is something with sharp hooks on it in there LOL.
  17. Thanks Phil must have been a typo in the ad I was looking at or maybe it had bigger tanks installed since it is on the east coast for running offshore. I also gave some thought to the Simrad system however it will not fit in my boat without cutting holes in the bulkhead to have it stick thru into the head. I have also been on boats with several differant AP systems and the hyd systems are much better. Simrad did not give up on AP's for cable steered boats they still offer a system for it however they gave up on the rotory helm you can get the AP24 with a cable drive system but the price quoted to me was just under 5 grand installed. which was about the same as the quote to have my boat converted to hyd and a Garmin GHP10 installed. The problem I have is to get what I want I will be putting close to 10 to 14 grand into my boat and will be lucky if it raises the boat value by more than a couple of grand. Versus selling my boat or trading it in and getting what I really wanted to start with. Since the more I think about it my boat will never be exactly what I want no matter how much money I put into it.
  18. Thanks guys I have never not answered a distress call I have been too far away to do any good but will always answer if I hear a boat in trouble. I have to say I was amazed at how hard that Starcraft pulled it took forever to make the 4 or so miles back to the pierhead at 8mph and 2400 rpm, normally I am on plane at 2400 at around 20mph. We also had somebody in a sailboat playing chicken with us in the dark while we were fishing he barely missed us than turned and circled us so we pulled lines and called it a night. It was a expensive night for 2 fish probably burned 35 to 40 gallons of gas.
  19. Sadly the truth is for cable steered boats there is not really a good AP option. I packaged a X5 with my boat when I bought it 3 years ago after waiting all summer for it I gave up and got my money back. It has since been released and removed from the market 2 times. By the time you move up to a quality AP and drive unit for a cable steered boat you will spend just as much for it as you would to convert the boat to Hyd steering and get a even better system. Which has been my plan for the last 2 years I am thinking I might go back to plan A which was buy a boat that already has the stuff I want on it. Looking at a Boston Whaler 285 Conquest with twin 250 Optimax Mercs. So far the only drawback I see is the ammount of gas it will drink if I push both sticks all the way forward roughly 65gph at 53mph or .7 mpg. While the idea of being able to run across the lake and fish WI would be cool the 600 or 700 bucks in gas would suck. Filling the 420 gal gas tank does not sound like fun either.
  20. Went back out again with Steve left the dock at 5:30 and headed sw to work some of the same area as we were in last night. We were just about out to 90ft when a radio call came thru that a guy was broke down in 105ft to the north. So I asked for his position and turned that way kinda hoping one of the closer boats would go get him. We passed a Starcraft in 96ft and noticed it was not moving so radioed the guy back and it was him so we turned back to tow him in. I made a towing bridle out of one of my docking lines and towed him back to Harbortown Marina where he said he would get a ride back to his truck so we didn't have to tow him all the way to Fishermens Landing. Left the Channel a second time around 7:00 and no longer had the run time to get where I planned on being so we headed straight out to 80ft dropped lines and trolled out front ended 2 for 4 both small kings. Ace Hi plug on a 300 copper and Moonshine double trouble on a rigger. Was kinda hopefull for a Karma bite for towing the boat in but maybe the Karma comes later LOL. He said he would send me some gas money which would be cool but at least now I have one more guy who owes me a tow LOL. Will probably be out at least a time or 2 mid week there is so much bait out front right now it is hard to beleive. Might have to bring my perch rods and see what it is but it is a mass of small fish 40 to 60 down in 110 to 140ft.
  21. I will take both sides here first off you can fish just fine without one I seldom use mine. Second I more than doubled my catch rate the first year I had mine and nearly doubled it again the second year. Why because it helped me read the water and what is happening below the boat much better. So you might ask why I don't use it as much well I learned a lot while using it and I can read my gear much better because of it. Secondly after dropping one probe on the lake bottom roughly a 300 dollar boo boo I don't risk losing a second one as much. However there are times it is worth it's weight in gold we are approaching those times right now as we will be getting more East winds which will roll the water over more often causeing various currents and temp breaks to show up and then leave. Ask Mike GLF about a tourney we were in last summer we both knew the water had turned over and it was a bit foggy in the early morning When the fog lifted we were only a few hundred yards apart and both on some great fishing. Most of the other boats had ran to where the fish were the day before. The other boats all pretty much caught fish however we did not have to run several miles to do it. Lots of guys will tell you temp is not that important because Salmon usually feed out of their prefered temp and that is correct. However find a temp break that puts their prefered temp close to the bait and they will be there all day long. FInd them way out of temp in the morning feeding and the min they stop eating they are headed for cold water. So knowing where the closest cold water is will help you find them.
  22. It sounds to me like you need to remove the wheel and see what is stuck or damaged. Big Jon has most parts to fix them and if I looked at it I bet I could fix it. I would assume the cable went between the spool and the frame there is ,was a shim there it has to be greased now and then if damaged or missing the wheel will bind against the case when you try to move it. Loosen the clutch and see if the motor spins freely with no shaft wobble. If the shaft is straight and spins with the clutch released take the clutch off remove the drive pin and pull the wheel there should be a spacer shim between the wheel and the housing that is greased. if it is damaged missing or dry it will cause the wheel to bind which would trip the breaker.
  23. 3 for 5 tonight all between 110 and 180 just 3 nice eaters nothing fancy. Pretty much straight out and a little south just 2 of us so a 6 rod spread 2 divers 2 riggers and a couple of coppers than core of various lengths. Nothing on long lines 11in Protroll dbl glow and fly took 2 fish Wire diver 170 back took the other with a spoon.
  24. The sad part is most of the rules are plainly written 9 rods catch 15 weigh 10 no culling. Anyone who does not understand that should not be allowed to fish in it. Culling is discarding a item on purpose losing a fish by mistake is not culling losing one on purpose is. If you see me catch 8 or 9 fish in a row with no problem and suddenly I can't seem to get a small fish to the boat odds are I am not trying to catch the little fish. That has never been a problem for my team we are not that good on a consistant basis so you can bet I need every fish every time. There is supposed to be a little bit of luck involved if you want to rule out some of the luck I have several friends who are divers I suppose I could troll them and have them sort the fish before they are even hooked up LOL. I am pretty sure there is nothing in the rules that says I could not do that.
  25. I have to agree with Spoonfed he is dead on. Hand these rules to a 10 year old who knows how to fish and they will understand them completely. Hand them to a veteran Tournament team and suddenly none of them are clear on what the words mean to them. It is really simple in a no cull event lose a fish by mistake thats fishing lose one on purpose thats cheating. We all make mistakes and we all lose fish now and then and we all know how to cheat the question is will you do it? Once you lower your standards even a little it becomes easier to lower them some more and before you know it you don't have any.
