Set lines at 7:30 in 20 FOW a few miles south of the ball. Picked up 3 lakers which were turned loose and 1 Ho. Double Orange crush with a gold back seems to be the best lure we were using. Dragged around red thin fins and various other baits with no takers. Mostly went on a south troll. Picked up the Ho after moving out to 40 FOW trolling back north. Stopped fishing at 12:30 to go in. The lake started out a little choppy (two footers out of the south southwest) but layed down as the morning went on. Nice day to be on the water.

We ended up in 225 FOW when we pulled lines. We showed a few marks on the graph but not much to speak of. A few decent marks down around 100 FOW while trolling out. Surface temp was 37.

After having some major maintenance on the boat finished this week we decided to go fishing. Set lines about 8:15 AM in about 15 FOW and trolled north. Turned into a nice boat ride; turned around at about halfway creek and slipped out to 20 FOW on the south troll and picked up a nice laker which we turned back; came on a purple hot and tot. Continued the troll down to the ball south of the harbor and decided to go out in the lake looking for steelies. Trolled on a mostly sw troll after setting up in 90 FOW for several hours with nothing to show except a couple of guys with a little sun burn. All in all it was a beautiful day to be on the lake!

Thanks for the heads up on the heat issue. Having thought about this a bit I may put a solenoid valve across one of the pumps shorting the outlet to inlet so that when we are running both engines one pump we be completely bypassed and not going over a relief valve which generates a lot of heat in the oil. I am looking forward to getting this issue resolved one way or the other and will keep you all posted as to my progress.

Thanks for all the good ideas. I think I am going to try a power steering pump out of a van with an external reservoir on each engine. I'll try using one tank to feed both pumps and that way it should not matter which pump is supplying the load while both engines are running. I will need a check valve in each pressure line to prevent back flow when operating with only one engine. I'll let you know how it works out and possibly have pictures in a week or two.

I have an '89 Amberjack with twin 4.3 I/O's. The problem is that only the starboard engine has a power steering pump. The port engine has the brackets and pulley on the motor but no pump. I would like to keep the engine hours somewhat balanced but the auto-pilot does not like it when the power steering is off (tore up two actuators so far). I really want to get the other engine fitted with a pump but am a little at a loss on how to go about it. I think I will need some sort of check valves or a shuttle valve of some sort to keep from blowing all the oil out one or the other pumps. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to spend the high dollar to replace the steering system with independent hydraulic steering since we are on a tight budget.

Yes I have pictures if you send me your e-mail I can send them to you. I will be posting them with the add once I figure out how to do that. I am not sure how many hours are on the main engine. We installed a hours meter this spring and have logged 103 hours as of Saturday. In the four years that we have owned the boat I am guessing we logged about 150 hours per season. Since owning the boat we have used Mobil One synthetic oil and it has not used any oil. The boat fishes very well --- we went 7 for 10 on Saturday in ~ 2 hours. Wish we would have had more people with us since I am sure we could have caught a lot more fish.

We went 10 for 11 from 7:00 PM to 9:30. The fish were all kings with the largest being about 13 Lbs. We had only intended on getting 9 but somehow we lost track of the total. Marked lots of fish between 30 and 70 down in 90 to 150 FOW. SW troll was the best and both rigers set at 50 and 60 went several times with e-chip Pro Troll 8" blades with ether green or blue flies. We also took three fish on a dark puple glow bait with a big green eye (not sure the name) on a low diver with large weight set on 1.5 150 back. All in all it was a great night to be fishing----hope it keeps up for the week-end.

Left the dock about 7:30AM and headed out to test some dipsy settings. Seems like the Lure Jensen dipsies run a little deeper with the same setting and amount of line out. On a setting of 1.5 on wire the Lure Jensen would hit at 155 out with a 2.5 MPH troll, we changed the setting on the Walker to 1 and it finally hit at 175. We were in 72FOW. Set up in 180FOW and trolled south west and steadily started catching fish. We didn't mark much (not sure the graph is working correctly). The best setup was a low diver set 180 back with a Pro Troll E-chip flasher and a mixed veggies---took three kings and missed on another. We also caught fish on the 300 copper rig with a Corries Bait. After taking 6 fish we decided to check the 300' range since there was some talk on the radio about it being good. Fished for about an hour before connecting with the first fish. We ended up catching 3 nice Steelhead on double orange crush on full core. We picked up a couple more kings, a Coho, and a big laker (about 15 pounds) that we let go. Although the action was not fast and:clapping: ferious it was a beautiful day to be on the lake---returned to the launch about 5:00PM.

Started fishing about 6:15 in 80 FOW just North of the pier heads. We didn't get our first fish until 8:40 on a East troll and it came on a Purpleish bait from Fishlander with a white glow back on full core (~14 Lb. King). 10:05 the 150' copper rod went off trailing a Craigs Bait and turned out to be about a 16 Lb King. The last fish of the day was a little unbelievable: The down rigger went off in 150 FOW set 60 FD and the drag was screaming; somehow the man tending the rod was gripping the poll such that the line was cutting into his hand---he let out a scream and dropped the rod. The rod bounced off the back of the boat and flew about 15 feet through the air before hitting the water with a splash. Luckily the line had not done any serious damage to the unfortunate rod handler. About 5 minutes later the half core rod took off set up on an inline planner board. As the line was coming in we noticed the end of the lost fishing pole! We retrieved the pole which still had the fish hooked up to the free sliding blue dolphin 4-DW. We were able to land the fish and retrieve the pole to finish the morning on a very grateful turn of fate.

I agree---not much happening out of Saugatuck. We fished Sunday for about 8 Hours. Started out close to shore and picked up one Brown. Went out to 60 ~ 80 FOW and picked up 3 Lake Trout. Did not mark very many fish and no bait at all. It still was fun and a beautiful day for a boat ride.
