Very nice --- we picked up 8 lakers 1 salmon and a 14 Lb steelhead in about the same water. We set in at 90 fow and fished south from the ball about 5 miles than turned and came back. Caught fish both ways.

Gorgeous day to be on the lake today. Started in 35~40 fow and wasted about 1 1/2 hours looking for fish. Received some info that the fish were in 180 so pulled lines and headed deep about 3~4 miles south of the harbor. Picked up first fish while setting lines and than it was pretty steady. Ended up with 8 salmon and 2 lakers. 3 of the salmon were found while pulling lines (14~15") since they were already stiff not much sense in "letting them go". One hit a magnum NBK on 250 copper! 75 down on the shoot with a green dolphin took a nice king, one of the lakers came on a 2-color with double orange crush. Our best bait was a tequila sunrise type of slim with speckles of glitter; not sure what you call it; took three kings and at least one miss. Magnum screw ball had one king and a miss on a wire diver set on 3 200 back. Several other misses but all in all a great day on the water. Trolled south to start than north and both produced OK. Even took a couple when we headed east to go in.

Good to here a report form you. Hope all is well. I have been keeping busy at Porter----must have nearly 1000 hours so far this year---very funny. Went fishing on Saturday went 9 for 14 after the lake calmed down. 5 lakers (one at 13 pounds) 1 coho, and the rest kings. 6:00 AM was ~ 8 Ft out of Saugatuk. 10:00 the lake was down to ~4 Foot and calming. All fish came on fly flasher combos. The shoot took 4 or 5 at 100 to 120 down. Fished 90 to 180. More fish in 90.

We were out Friday night as well south of Saugatuk in 70 to 90 FOW and only took two fish: a nice Brown ~15 pounds on a 100 copper with a fire ball and a small Salmon about 6 pounds on 250 copper not sure what the bait was.

Great report---I also fished with Doc's Holiday in the tournament. Although the Doc came in 2nd with the ladies we did not find the fish on ether day. The weather was unbeatable even though we could not get the fish to co-operate. We ended up with two small salmon on Saturday and a laker and salmon on Sunday; certainly nothing to brag about.

Set lines about 5:45PM on a west troll in 140 fow. Never got more than nine rods in the water with steady action until pulling lines at dark. Best bait was a froggy pro-troll blade with a pickled sunshine fly which took ether 4 or five of the fish. We had this 270 back on a wire diver on 3 with a normal size weight and medium ring. The other diver on the other side of the boat went off twice with an 8" green pro-troll blade with a green fly (not sure what name) same settings. The chute went twice with an 11" white e-chip by pro-troll and white fly down 115. We also caught two lake trout which we put back on a blue bubble blade with a blue bubble fly on an out down 80 down. We zig-zaged back and forth from 140 to 170 and had steady action maintaining a speed of ~3.1 on the GPS. We didn't mark a ton of fish until after sun down but the action was good. 9 for 9:) The only bad part was the flys were a big pain in the but drawing blood on numerous bites Tenacious

The boat is now reduced to $9,500.00 this is the lowest we can go----after this we are going to part out the fishing equipment.

Set lines in 100 FOW a little south of the piers at 7:00 AM. First fish came while setting lines (Lake Trout ~ 6 Lbs.). We picked away at the fish and ended up with 11 fish (two undersized Lake Trout returned to the lake). Pulled lines at 12:15. Best troll was southwest however we did catch fish going north as well. NBK on the slider did well running rigger at 90 feet. Biggest king was ~18 Lbs. Water was warm on the surface 71 and 48 about 80 down. I would add a picture but not sure how to go about it.

Went fishing with a friend out of Manistee early Friday morning (set lines in the dark at 5:00 AM). We had a great time we fished just north of the point and started in about 50 FOW on a north troll. The temp was a little high 54 all the way to the bottom but the bait and fish were stacked up. We took the first fish on a half core with a j-plug clown as we were setting lines. The next came soon after on a rigger set 35 down with a white glow spinney. The ladderback j went on another half core before light and that was our big fish 20 Lber. The next is a bit of a blur----as the sun peeked over the horizon it seemed all the rods were pounding and I didn't know which to chase first. I know at one point we had three maybe four going at once. I think we managed to put two more fish in the box before we had a little breather. Turned around at the nets and went south out to about 150 FOW. Seemed like the break was down about 75 at 46 degrees. Very slow fishing on the south trowel only picked up two more one a shaker which we returned. Just as we were going to pull lines the high wire diver went with a white spin doctor and pickeled sunshine fly. The fish screamed out 350 feet before I could turn him around. Slowly batteled the fish to within 20 feet of the boat when the hook straightened out and the fish lives to fight another day. We ended up with 9 nice fish to clean and back at the launch at 10:30 AM.

Didn't get lines in until 3:30. We set up in about 120 FOW and trolled SW. We managed to catch 2 medium sized kings (one ~6 Lbs the other ~ 8). The first came on the chute fishing it about 10 Ft. above bottom with a white e-chip blade and a mirage fly. The other fish came on a high wire diver set on 3 240 back with a Ham-Bone Yuk spoon. Didn't mark very much but it sure was a nice afternoon for a boat ride. We pulled lines about 7:00 and ran in. My friend Nick was along and his two sons; none of which had ever been on lake Michigan or Salmon fished. The boys did a good job at reeling in the fish.

We knew it was a bit of a gamble and there were no good reports in close unless you wanted to catch Lakers which we try to avoid in most cases. It was about 41 miles from the Saugatuck pier basiclly straight out. It took about an hour and 15 minutes going about 30 MPH. One of the guys along took a picture of the radar and sonar while we were out deep----I'll try to get a copy and post it. Jim F. Tenacious II

Well we kept hearing about this great temperature break way out in the lake----soooooooo we decided to try it. We looked and looked and could not find anything close to a good break on the surface. We motored out to 550 FOW. Quite an interesting sight seeing both coasts on the radar with us in the middle. It was a beautiful day for a boat ride and disappointing as well since we only managed to bag two lakers. We did have two rips that didn't hook up that may have been steel head. Didn't mark ANY fish and after several hours of plying the deep waters we came back in to about 340 and fished a little managing to catch a dink salmon which we returned to the lake. Come on JULY!!!! Set lines at 7:45 AM a little south of the piers in 120 FOW and trolled SW. It was a very slow day of fishing but we did manage to pick up 5 Lake Trout (1 throw back). One of the Lakers was ~11 pounds. We did not mark many fish all day. Most of the day we trolled between the 120 to 180 depth several different directions. Several fish came on the Chute down deep 120 with an e-chip blade and mirage fly; several others on 1/2 core and double orange crush magnums. We were bit completely off on one strike and the fish swam away with the spoon (goldy locks) on a 1/2 core. Surface temp was in the 55 56 range 50 feet down the temp varied between 50 and 44; mostly I kept the GPS speed at 2.8 to 3.0. If the lake is decent on Sunday I think we are going to run deep------I'll let you all know how that works out. No real pattern the fish were few and far between; pulled lines around 2:00 PM and finished a very enjoyable day on the water. Tenacious II

They will hold up to 550' feet with correct backing. 2 (7') Shakespear Ugly Sticks which make great downrigger rods.. One rod has a 27H Diawa Sealine reel. The name of our boat is "Tenacious II". We fish an '89 27' Sea Ray Amberjack. Tenacious I is a 23' Sea Ox which we still have for sale and would make someone a heck of a deal on. Not a thing wrong with the Sea Ox we just got such a good deal on the Sea Ray we could not pass it up and it sure is nice to have more room to carry a few more people along.

We moved the boat down to South Haven from Saugatuck on Friday and fished along the way. The had at least 25 bites and kept 19 fish the largest being a 17.5 Lb. King. Most hits were on the dipsy's and riggers we were fishing between 80 and 110 FOW. Most of our fishing was between the ball and finished about 8 miles north of SH. Saturday we struggled to catch our 10 fish. We had two different set-ups bit off; a Howie fly behind a white e-chip pro-trol blade running 90 down on the chute rigger and a spoon on the outdown rigger. At the end of the day we had a terrific rip on the low diver but it did not hook up. We ended up with an 88 Lb box which was a little disappointing. Sunday was a better day and we boated 14 fish and turned in a weight of 101 lbs. The fish were a little deeper at about 140 FOW. We even took one fish on the chute trolling 170 FOW 160 feet down. We are looking forward to fishing Grand Haven in a couple of weeks. Sorry for the late post;)

Went fishing out of Saugatuk on Wednesday in the morning. Set lines at 8:30 AM in about 70 FOW and trolled into the waves for about 1 1/2 hours without much to show. We worked out to about 110 FOW 48 on the surface and 43 40 down on the probe. Picked up the first fish on the turn to go back with the waves which was a King on a mountain dew spoon. Picked up 3 more Kings, a Ho, and a Steelie on the way back. The Steelie came on a half core while we were pulling lines. In all we were only out about 3 1/2 hours getting a little practice before the South Haven tournament this weekend. Goldy Hawn's sister took a king on the out down 42 down---not sure what we caught the others on. One King was nearly 18 pounds on full core. Weather permitting we are going to give it a try again tomorrow. I will try to remember the camera this time.:grin: The two we lost were on sliders on the out downs.

The water temp ranged from 45 in close (20 FOW) down to 42 in 50 FOW. We didn't have a cable for the probe so I'm not sure what the down temp was. At 12:30 when we pulled and ran in there was very light chop (less than 1 foot).
