  1. Did everyone hear that they shut down the commercial perch fishing in the western area of Lake Erie? This means they will be venturing more into the area I'm from (central basin of the lake. As far back as I can remember when we have them in our area the perch fishing declines as does the quality of the catch. My opinion - nothing good about it! Captain Art
  2. Everyone must know that the walleye bite has been on in the central basin since May. Fish are everywhere and recently the focus has been on long distance offshore fishing trips. Here is a shot of our catch yesterday which included 6 fish Ohio awards ranging from 29-32" The fish were taking stick baits back 300-350' on wire and spoons off dipsys at 175-200, 130-140, and 95-110. If you know anyone who can't access long distance trips on the big pond & may be interested in a walleye charter visit us on the web at http;//www.LakeErieCaptain.com Good friends, better weather & excellent fishing - God bless America! 3. Try a few of these recipes on for size and enjoy Blackened Walleye Marinate fillets in refrigerator for two hours in olive oil, into which 3 garlic cloves have been pressed or minced. After marinating blot excess oil from the fillets and dip in melted butter. Spice topping: mix together in a shaker container: ½ tsp. cayenne (red) pepper 1 ½ tsp. paprika 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp onion powder 1 tsp. garlic powder ½ tsp. white pepper ½ tsp black pepper ½ tsp oregano ½ tsp. thyme crushed red pepper (optional) Sprinkle spices evenly over both sides of fillets. Cooking is best done in cast iron skillet outdoors. Heat skillet as hot as possible. Place fillets in skillet and cook until done on one side, turn over and continue cooking until done. While cooking spread melted butter on each side of fillet. (Be careful because butter may flame up) Note: triple spice recipe fills a spice sized bottle Walleye on the grill Batter: ½ cup mayonnaise ¼ cup soy sauce 1/8 cup horseradish Mix batter together. Dip fish into batter and cook directly on grill. (It is better to have a fish basket, which hold the fish better while cooking on a grill) Beer battered Walleye 1 cup saltine crackers 1 cup flower ½ tsp. salt & pepper 1/8 tsp. nutmeg & thyme 1 can beer Mix ingredients together then add the beer until you get a good batter. Dip your fish in the batter then deep or pan fry. Try adding your favorite spices. (Note: with most fish batters allow your fish to air dry first on a rack. This allows the batter to stick to the fish better) Captain Art http://www.LakeErieCaptain.com
  4. Hi guys, I'm a little new here & just looking around. I just came back from a charter captains conference this past weekend. The Toledo Coast Guard was there. There are many new up & coming changes.......they will be phasing out Toledo for license renewal & going to a national system, one such place of all places will be in WV! Adding more cost & pain for us will be a new Twic ID for everyone on top of your licenses. You can find out more about Twic here: http://www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/layers/twic/index.shtm Lastly, they incouraged anyone within 1 1/2 years of renewal to get started on the process.
