  1. On the silver one we run four walker captains pacs with auto shut offs. No issues in four years mechanicly or electricly. If I had to do it again I would go with big jons. there vertical and horizontil positioning are second to none. as far as which are best, I think they all work pretty effectivly. which is better, is just opinion. Walker were convienent for me as Neil wilson is just over at Miner lake and is the area authorized walker service dealer and I can get anything I need any day any time. He works out of his shop at his home about 10 minutes form my home.
  2. I put down my deepest rigger which is usuall the spin doctor and fly . then followed by my next three riggers. then I will set the lead core and last but not least I will run the dipseys down. The reason I run the dipseys last and the the high lines second to last, is that I want to see how the riggers are running as far as sweeping left or right if there is a current and then I can decide what I can run on board and diseys so i can avoid a mess if they decide not to track correctly due to currents and wind.
  3. That would depend on what exactly what you are looking at. Is it a new or used boat, is it all welded, all rivited, or blolth rivited and welded. People rant and rave about all welded boats however many that I know have also had them repaired for cracks as welding alluminum is trickey. Alluminum takes more heat to weld than steel and on thin alluminum it tends to crack right on the weld. Rivits are also not fail proof as I have a couple on my 221 islander that leak. I will have them redone next winter as i will have the whole boat redone. But in the mean time it will be fine as ive left it at the marina for a week and it has approx 2 gallons of water in it. also look at the hull where it sits on the trailler. Many boat trailers are not set up correctly and this will ad stress to the same spot over time. This is how My issue came up as I took it to mattesons over on gun lake and the set it up correctly for my boat and pointed out this is why. Look at the sides of the boat to see if there are any out of sort bends in the metal as poeple will load there boats and pull them out half way on the trailer and the weight of the back of the boat will actually bend the whole boat. I watched this happen at black river park while a guy was loading His lund and did not have it on straight and rather then back the trailer down further he pulled it out as he thought he was holding everyone up and got in a hurry. I always say let them wait. I pay the same amount to get in the park as them. Last, if it is a used boat look at howmany wholes have been drilled in it and where they have been drilled, if screws are put into the cross supports and they are touching the metal where they bottom out I have seen where the screw heads have worn pin hols in the actuall hull of the boat. Are these the answeres you are looking for or do you want more along the lines of design?
  4. Hit the Joe on sunday morining with may dad, super tramp. Had a couple of firsttimmers out. fishing was slow untill around 11:00 am when we hit 86 ft of water and hit a double. On King which came off and a nice approx 15lb laker which was realeased. King came on a 3 color swr rig with bloodynose silver streak. laker came on trash can opti with a (green) purple taco fly 85' down. next rip came on blue green dolphin fishlander on the rigger 78' down ended up being a king approx 6 lb. Took another hit on the blue green dolphin which came straight at the boat and eneded up comming off around the rigger cable. no lost hardware. last two we boated came on the surface on a orange and gold thin fin 50' behind the board and 75' out. and on the same swr rig with the bloody nose. ended up 4 for 6 in the last hour and a half before the lake gods said time to go home as it got pretty choppy. Started at the piers and trolled straght out from 7:30am untill just after noon. slow start, good ending.
  5. welcome Skeiner. Mike this guy can do some awsome stuff with pictures on a computor. He will definently be a great asset to this site.
  6. Hey Mike If your think about it most people are going to notice those decals going out and comming into port. Therefore I feel that 12x12 would work just fine and maybe a couple of 8x8 for the windows if you want to plaster them all over. It also depends on how much space you have on your boat if you dont already have it plastered with stickers. So if your ordering put me down for two 12x12 decals. Do we get a discount for being and advertising sponser?
  7. just an fyi If I had to call a port home it would be St.Joe. and in reference to the A's if you here any one mention the chalet's that would be the A's. Just good to know if you here anyone mention that on the radio as the chalets straight out in about 27' of water hold a small drop off the goes down 3' and then back up going out through it , tends to hold fish and has been a prticularly good spot over the years and at one time yeilded me 9 fish on 3 passes one morning.
  8. Rick what is the name of your boat and what port do you hale from? You look familiar.
  9. we trolled all the way down to the nuker and back. we picked up the coho on the troll back going with the waves.
  10. Hit the water at southhaven and set lines at about 5 pm yesterday evening for outr first trip out this year. Only trolled for about 2.5 hours and ended up one for one on a coho that took a black and red thinfin on a line board 50' back and 75' out on the line counter. water was 43.3 degrees 10' down on the subtroll, and 44.1 on the surface. I question myself as the water was very coudy and now debate wether or not I should have went out looking for clearer water but would have lost fishing time to do it as the evening doest not leave you much on the way of time when home it 1hr and 10min away. Call it hiensight. Lake had about a 1' chop and it was brezzy but being off shore made for a nice shake down cruise.
  11. what is it worth? just out of curiousity.
  12. I have herd these snake=laketrout. silver bullet=steelhead tacklebuster=coho football=brown trout stove pipe= king (this is more of a fall term)
  13. Hey all after several weeks of intense preperation the silver one is finally organized enough to hit the water. We are planning an after work shake down trip out of south haven on thursday 4/6/06. So if your out give us a shout. Channel 10 is the channel most of the fishermen use out of southhaven, If your in St. joe then its best to tune into channel 68 for fishing info . If the fishing is good the boys will be talking. See ya on the water.
  14. Mark I know what you mean. Years ago back in the early 80s we boated an atlantic on my dads boat and we thought it was a coho as well. come to find out that the only way to tell is by looking at the color of the moulth of the fish and the shape of the tail. My Dad, Who is very good at telling these distinctions, thought it was an atlantic, however they are so close to being identical, it leaves doubt in your mind. We to confirmed that at the marina at the fish cleaning station when a michingan Department of natural resources officer checked our catch as they often did at the fish cleaning station at whispering willows marina in st.joe which is now long gone.
  15. take six I dont know of any really good photo shots. but rather would focus my efforts on genetic distinctions, physical characteristics. such as the differeces in the color of the mouth of a king vrs a coho. or the distinct color marking of an atlantic or even right down to the differences of the shape of fins tails etc. being that my family on my fathers side is from oregon. I found that these distinctions are described very well by oregon fish and game. Im sure you could get a copy online. wish i could help more.
  16. 221 Islander, 130hp merc cruiser 46 gal tank. between 10 and 15 gallons a trip depending on how far we run.
  17. welcome to the site steve. see ya on the water
  18. yes that use to be the case as I to also took alot of jumbos in april and even july, however over the last about 7 years it has changed
  19. Spawnwalker The last two years the salmon fishing in southhave, mid July has been unbeatable. The perch dont seem to kick in untill mid to late August. And to answer you question the perch fishing is still good, However its better in St.Joe. Mike For a fee of $80, last year, you could buy a season pass to black river park. dont know what it will be this year. You can call the park.
  20. I know that. I think I herd it the same place you did. Know that was the best tip of the seminar. Went home that knight and backed all mine off.
  21. It depends On where im at. If Im in benton harbor I will leave town and go to the bistro or locentinas in Paw Paw. Bolth are 5 star resturants and have an excelent menue. I like fish alot. Locentinas has a ceder planc walleye that is very good. The bistro has a white fish dinner that they are noted for. This will entirly depend on who im with. After reading the post on gas money, I realize im getting hosed. However if im with the wife and kids then we. Go as bolth of these resturants are about $30 bucks a plate after you figure a few cocktails in there. If im in southhaven then My favorite place to eat is clementines and they have the best walleye dinner ive had anywhere. It is there Potato crusted pan fired walleye dinner. Its around $15 with a regular drink. I give it a 2 thunmbs up. The chop house in south haven also has pretty good food. There lobster bisk and calamari are very tasty and reasonablye priced. I could go on but im at work so for right around here that is where I like to go. Joe
  22. Mike I will see you there as My dad and son will be at the door around ten. Anyone that plans on attending the clinic, get there early as they have a set amount they let in the clininc. Not exactly sure what that amount is. If you end up going alone, Your more than welcome to join my dad and myself along with zach. Joe: boat name (silver one)
  23. Depending upon where your are at there are a few that are good. But being an old omc you might want to take it to wolfs marina in Benton harbor or Brians just down the road. They have alot of expirence with omc outdrives. Just ask my Dad.
