  1. I agree. Hummingbird did the exact same thing for me when the Transducer plug kit was missing from my new 598 HD SI.. I love my new hummingbird. I had to go with the 500 series due to limited dash space
  2. I would go south to the dunes off of silver beach and then keep heading towards the south stick. The fishing has been good. I would start at 100 fow early and then head sw so that you are going deep. there are fish as far out as 400 fow water but you should find a good concentration of fish between 150 and 250. Spoons and wire are the hot set up. Good luck
  3. Thanks. I wont need a dock as I dont leave my boat in the water but another launch site might be perfered.
  4. Hit the water with my friend Lonnie out of ludville sat morning when we arrived at the boat launch it looked like that seen out of the movie Jaws when the fisherman were all going to go out and kill the shark. Boats everywhere.. Got the boat in the water and stayed in tight for a little combat fishing to start the day and get my blood moving as it was not eve daylight yet. stayed with a tight set. rigger and dipseys. after 3 large passes out to the mudling and back in the harbor with not takers we pulledl lines and ran out to 90 foot and set up. no fish for the first hour and a half and then at 10.30 we hit a steelie in the humps out in front of the bath house in 125' of water. as we were boxing the seelie. hit an 18lb king on Kavorkian 90 down on the rigger. got both lines set and hit a nice 13lb king on 300 copper yellowtail. still same depth heading to the north stick. got the copper back in and rigger with kavorkian went nice coho around 7 to 8lb. again 90 down. last fish before we called it came on the wire again.king, same as the steeli. 8" pro troll blue bubble with a holy glow yogurt fly. ended up 5 for 9. these are some fat fish this year. all very healthy Just wanted to thank Ed b for helping me out with reports up untill our trip to help make the most of my time. It is really appreciated Ed. sounds like everyone did about the same did not here any big number but most people were hitting 3 to 7 fish a few I heard got into double digits. Nice to finally have met you and put a face with a fellow glf fisherman.
  5. They have been doing well down to the south point. I would run down to the dunes and start in about 60" and work out. once you hit a 100 or so it drops off fast. Last week we took most of our fish between 80 and 210. worked west southwest. wire dipsey with blue bubble protroll and halloween silver stereak on full core were our hot set up. also #4 wonderbread j plug and mongoose were good off of the rigger and on copper. good luck. they have also been getting fish right in pentwater lake.
  6. Weather providing I will be fishing out of luddington on Sat 8-17 with my good friend Lonnie Allen. any reports we could get would be greatly appreciated. Herd fish were already running up the p.m. not sure if that is true but by my calculations it aught to be close so there should be fish out front somewhere.
  7. For fish I reccomend Don Ryno out of Gobles. Worth the drive. He is the best when it comes to fish.
  8. The Key was bring a friend for her to talk to. BEER, and FOOD>
  9. Just got home yesterday but fished Pentwater on Sat Aug 3rd ended up 5 for 6. Fish are in 160 to 240 feet of water off of the south point down by the sticks. took us a while to find the fish and by the time we did the lake kicked up took almost 2 hours to get back to harbor from the south point in 3 to 5. New boat handeled well but your not going to run into them in an 18.5 foot boat. full core with silver streak Halloween took 3 kings rigger with super slim minne dolphin on slider rigger 90 down took 15lb laker and half core with wonderbred #5 j plug took 1 steel head. Only my second tripp on my boat since buying it last year and still learning it. went pretty well. Wifes best friend caught her first salmon ever. girls realed in all the fish. Thanks to Hillbilly charters for the info and helping us get on a few fish towards then end of our trip before the lake kicked up.
  10. thanks for the report Ed.
  11. Those are good numbers for this time of year Jim. thanks for the report.
  12. Thanks guys. I figured the water was still pretty cold up there yet. I am hoping that this rain we are getting might trigger the steelie bite by the time we get up there .
  13. Hey all After almost 5 years on the sidelines dealing with health issues I have the new silver one ready to roll. I am heading up to our cabin next week and looking to fish out of pentwater or luddington. Have not seen any reports. Have see a few out of Manistee but not looking to go that far north if I dont have to. Any members of the northern ports heard anything. cant wait to get back in the saddle. Would greatly apprciate any reports. Joe: Boat Name: The silver One.
  14. Like Mark I also got my buck back two weeks ago. Don Ryno did an excelent job as always.

  16. Hi Keven My dad aka "supertramp" fishes st.joe and he told me last week there were perch in 30' of water north off of Gene clok park. said he could see them down in the water and there were a few boats fishing them. Hope that helps dad said the were running kind of small. water being so cold there are probobly bigger fish in 60 to 80 feet of water but I dont know many guys that like to fish them that deep. good luck and hopefully they will be in shallow come july. a nice mess of perch sounds like fun and supper.
  17. That is awsome Mark.
  18. That is a good question. I seem to remember this post a while back and alot of guys have their favorites. They all seem pretty good. they all have there issues. some have better options for your boat. Some boats depending on how their built will have alot of prep work depending on the rigger base plate and how your boat is built. another considerations is parts and service. I run walkers. The last set of captiains packs I had were great. 10 years not one issue. and there is a service tech 10 min from my house for cables and ends and hardware because lets face it any problem I have ever had with any downrigger was partially slef inflicted beacause is did not forsee the set up and what issue it would cause down the road.. Had Cannons on my islander when I first bought it. They were great. but the base plate did not set up well on the gunnel without building additional mounting support. I am all about K I S . keep is simple. My good friend moosky runs Big Jons. I love them and they work out good on his boat. Penn makes a pretty good downrigger and many others. . all have there issues. all have there good points. just consider all before you buy, because none of them are are what I call inexpensive.good luck.
  19. Now that is a picture that should win a contest. beautiful:thumb:
  20. Directions say 3 inches. on the template.
  21. Have not been on the water since selling My 221 Islander in 2009. wanted to make a change so saved some money and to buy a new boat. then saved some more to rig it. Have owned this boat a year now and finally worked up enough courage to drill holes in it and save enough to rig it. It is almost ready here she is finally in the home streach. wont be long and hopefully I will be back on the water with all of my St. Joe and Southhave fishing friends.
