I two am with Levi. Carry a big enough piece of Makabelt with you if you break a fan belt. Do not need to pull anything off to replace as it binds together the way it is put togther. Glf. this is the stuff we use on alot of belt drive conveyer at work, the red stuff. this will let you finish your day of fishing and then some to get back in and replace it with oem.

There are two public launches that I know of and one is at tackle haven the other is almost straight accross the river right next door to brians marina. Im not sure if they are state or county launches. I think they are bolth county. there is another launch at the brige of the I 94 overpass. that one is out for me. The launch at tackle haven two weeks ago was to low for the silver one a 221 islander and the other im not sure. I know years ago we took the super tramp up the morrison channel commin down from wispering willow marina and this was prefered as it was safer passage then either of the launchs mentioned above. If you could get above the launch Im sure the channel is safe. Just not sure if you dare cross the river to get above it as you have to give the point of the channel a wide birth and im not sure of the east side of the river at that point. Im hoping they drege the river on the east side out in front of tacklhaven. Outboards should not have a problem I/O's currently are at risk.

Levi Do they drege that out? the reason I ask is that I cannot get the 221 Isalnder in as 3 weeks ago I had a heck of a time going up stream with the motor trimmed all the way up and I know your boat probobly drafts twice what mine does. I know they dredge out the harbor as I have watched many times growning up as a kid but dont ever remember up by tackle haven being dreged out. Next question is can you make it accross the river over by brians marina and make it up the morrison chanell? I dont know this part of the river well as we kept our boat at wispering willows back in the day. I know that sreach will but down from the chanell im not sure were it is safe and were it is not.

thanks for fixing that Glf. I copied and pasted the http and I think I should have copied and pasted the jpg file. My son (Zach) turned 9 this year and is quit the little fisherman. He does and excellent job of running the boat with dad. Ya might say its in his blood as is with all our sons and daughters. He out fished dad on the ice this year and I quit letting him outfish so he did it fair chase so to speek. Im going to have to redem myself out on the big pond.

I know have an auto pilot for the silver one. All it takes to run it is Mt.Dew and beef jerky. pretty inexpensive to operate. and here it is.

Yell fish on and watch everyone trip over each other trying to get to the rod. Unless My dad the super tramp goes then you wear ear plugs and get the Hell out of his way. If your dont wear ear plugs you will suffer some hearing loss when he yells FISH ON. He is partially def from working in a paper mill for 30 years.

full core out bolth sides . Stinger Jawbreaker on one side and Stinger bloodynose out the other. A close second would be the inside rigger with smoke opti and green ice fly 8' behind the ball with a 30" distance between the doger and fly and swr on the other inside rigger with blue green dolphin fishlander, with the doger and fly 10' above the swr. always my two deepest.

Into the fog we went...
silver one replied to Take Six...'s topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Marine carpet. Had vynal and did not like it. Ive had carpet in my duck boat for over 10 years and it still looks new. I just take the power washer blast it down let it dry and shes good to go. The vynal was textured and held dirt. also stains did not clean up out of it. and she was real slippery when wet. Just fininshed putting it down yesterday and looks real nice. Hopfully we can get back on the water next weekend. Someday when I go back to fiberglass I wont have to worry about vynal or carpet, just keeping it clean. -
Did they get the junk cleaned up and How were the water levels?

change in plans. Will not be out this weekend as I am putting a new floor covering in the silver one. Originally it was just replace exsiting then the more I got into the more I tore up. Now putting whole new floor and covering in the aft. good luck to all who venture out this weekend. -
last week they WERE NOT in the water yet and made it very difficult to put in and take out. If you have a bigger boat take a pair of waders as I have a 221 Isalnder and as low as the water was I had to get we to get her on the trailer as far as I had to back down in. Keep the lower unit up untill you get to down by the chase bank.

We will try and get out again weather permitting on sat as well. I sure hope the water comes up and the docks are in at the launch. -

Lost the one we had on after we talked to you and lost another at the back of the boat right after that. Cant emphisise to guys enough these arent bluegills, Keep the line tight or it will spit that bait right back at ya, which was the case on bolth lost fish. Came back through that same spot and did not get another bump and ended up calling it a day. by the way Your boat is set up very nice. -
Aside from the fog and not being able to see more than 20 feet most of the day it was a nice shakedown trip on the silver one. Moosky did an excelent job driving the boat in some pretty dangerous conditions. Ended up 1 for 3 as the fishing was pretty slow. Did not mark but maybe 5 fish in 6 hrs of trolling. One brown and lost a second at the back of the boat. Not sure what the third was as we never saw it. Two of the three hits came on line board #13 orange jointed Rapala 75' back and 50' out. The third came on a Tequila sunrise Nailer. Fished everything shorter than I like as the fog conditions made us cautious about running anything to far our. fished from 4" of water out to around 22' of water. Temp was from 39 to 42 degrees on the lake and 46 in the harbor. Water levels are the worst I have ever seen them and that is since 1978. Wont go back as the water levles on the ride back in had dropped to the point to were I had the lower unit completley out of the water and the bottom of the boat dreging up mud. None of the docks were in the water either. Must be the Dnr is waiting for the license price increase to afford labor to put the docks in the water. Only had one cowboy come up on us at full throttle . When He was less than 100' from the back of my boat he decided to throttle down as that is when he saw us. We waived very politly and ended up only having to reset and fix one side of the boat. I think the fishing will pick up by the end of the week as we did mark some nice schools of bait.

Mooseky and I will be out in the silver one. Channel 68 is the one most of the guys hang out on in st. Joe. Give a shout. Dirty dog Good luck on the perch. I know right where your talking about. Good spot. Another is on the west side of the state park out where the old rice beds use to be. Great spot just after the ice goes out.

Thanks for the report levi Two years ago we cleaned up on the same weekend in march going 27 for 33 with my late brother inlaw who passed away two months ago. one of the best days in my almost 30 yr of fishing. It was the last fishing trip mark and I ever took togther.
-
Dirty dog How close to gun lake do you live? as Im appox 4 mi as a crow flys from Gun lake and might be looking for another ridder on sat?
-
Mooski and I plan on hitting St. Joe on sat morning provided this spring sinus cold I have does not kick me in the arse any harder than it is right now

Levi I love hering testomonys about kids like your grandson. I think that is awsome and we will put the little guy in our prayers that he will have no more issues with this.
-
There was alot less salmon and trout fishing gear than there was the previous year. alot less terminal. and alot more green carp stuff. was kind of disappointing from the salomon and trout end but on the upside the taxadermy mounts were awsome.

Where is your #1 port to fish on Lake Michigan
silver one replied to caznik's topic in Lake Michigan Discussion
My two favorite ports would have to be St.Joe from April to the first of July and Manistee from Firts of july to october. These are two special ports to me for the fact as a Kid I was lucky growing up with a father Who was of the first generation to start fishing the great lakes for salmon and so we always had a boat and those are the two ports we fished every year. Not to mention the fishing was phenominal, especially back in the early to mid 80's for coho in St.joe. Now a days we fish southhave alot. 1 Its the closest port to my home and 2 its the qickest to get on and off the lake with the exeption of Manistee where the launch it right in the herbor moulth.
