  1. On mine I have 250' of 20lb Ande Mono for my backing 300' of 27lb leadcore and 75' flurocabon leader on the front. I made my own reel spooler and bought one of those shakespear linecounters that clip on your fishing rod and mounted it to my spooler and that is how I know howmuch line I have. I wanted 300' of backing but seemed a little full when I did the first one as 250' is alot of line.
  2. I concurr with kingfisher as the 45 work well for my full cores.
  3. Just one question. How often has anyone had one release after a fish has hit? I am only asking this about the church boards because I have only ever had this happen approx twice in the last 5 years as I set the clips on the releases as tight as i can get them and seems to work pretty well. and on smaller fish wouldnt your want the board to realease? such as with yellow birds which I like in the spring being that they are lite. I like the speed balls as they seem to be effective.
  4. pretty cool.
  5. pflueger all the way. I switched from abu garcias two years ago and there is a big difference in how they are made and you will notice it. My father and law and I spend most of end of may and june chasing eyes after the spring salmon bite slows down a bit.
  6. Thanks for the report Jason Anyone out fishing deep yet.
  7. Nice spring king. those are the ones that can win you tournements this time of year. WTG.
  8. Wolfe: As far as your question about boards, it is really a preference. I have a 221 islander and it is not an ideal situation to get up on the bow and put up a mast and run big boards. I have used bolth and the line boards are alot less hassle to set up and I prefer them because I can run my set up the same way evrtime a fish hits. In otherwords if Im running 5 rods on one side and the 3 one in hits I can run it right back out to the same spot in the pattern without pulling rods in. I could not do this with mast lines. Bolth are very productive but like I said it is preference. Nailer hit it right on the head.
  9. Buy a couple of church boards aka walley boards and run them out away from the boat just like a surface line on an inline board. I usually set them 75 to 100ft out after i let the full core out. Set the releases tight as you dont want them to trip on a fish. Its lead core so you dont have to set the hook as there is almost no strech in the lead core. When fish hit lead core they are hooked up. Dont horse them or you will pull the hooks right out of the mouth of the fish just real them in and let them fight. keep the line tight. after the fish hits I usuall give them a second to straghten the line behind the boat. Real it up and pull the board off of your line and away you go. After you catch a few 20lb ers on core you will be more apt to let other peope real them in as it is a work out for your arms. Catch a ton of fish and your arms will be ripped by the end of the summer. Very productive way to catch more fish.

  12. Hey guys There is nothing wrong with either of the fuse blocks you are looking at. I do want to make one suggestion though being that I am an electrician and have been for over 20 years now. Fuses can be a pain especially when you dont have one. Look for the same thing only with circut breakers as that is what most boats are comming with now. They do make breakers that work for electronics. otherwise just make sure you have spare fuses just incase ther is a problem. You can still independently supply shortcircut protection and with a circutbreaker. Once again there is nother wrong with a fuse block just making a suggestion.
  13. Hey Ken Albright knot works well and its original intent is to attach Mono to wire, dacron,or anything that is not mono.Go to www.animatedknots.com and click on fishing uses and it shows all knots we use and will animate them to look like a show or you can stop it step by step. also is a good site to learn all the knots that we use to tye off boats and much more
  14. Thanks guys: Glf: I did not end up having coho dinner as My wife had surgery on Wed last week so I was lucky to have even gotton to go. Ended up being frozen Pizza as it go late in the evening. Nailer: Card reader for the camera is on the list I just never think of it when im out and about.
  15. Made first trip out of the year on the silver one and It was awsome to be back on the water. had a pretty good shake down cruise with 4 man limit on coho and one released. Pretty much had everything on the boat go off from riggers to surface lines. Rigger were running Hot-n-tots and tadpollys 6' back and 5 to 7 foot down. two doubles on the riggers. everything else came on surface lines and boards with an asorted arsenal of tots,tadpollys,J11 and j13 orange rapalas, orange and green huskyjerk, red fire tiger thinfins and green, shartruse and orange shadrap. went 4 for 4 on sticks and pulled all the spoons off. Good speed was from 2.2 to 2.5. North and south troll were bolth productive. I have a couple of good pics of My son and his Grand dad however were are expirencing difficulty finding our camera download cable as my 10yr old son has is own digital camera and insist on taking all the pictures. He does well, Hopefully we find the cable and I can share a couple of pics.
  16. OPTIMA Im on my 7th season and they werenot lying about these Gell filled batteries. you cant drain them they dont overheat and best of all there is no water to deal with. When bought new out of the box they are putting out 12.58v. last week when I put them back in the boat I threw the fluke on them and after sitting all winter they were at 12.52 Plugged it in to the new onboard charger and I belive it still has not called for a charge yet. I tested The charger by turnning on the radio and after around 5 min the charger finally kicked on. One caution note. Make sure if you use a gell filled batterie that your onboard charger is able to be used for these. My new onboard charger came with a programablen switch for either gell or lead acid batteries. I have never gone seven seasons on a batterie for my big boat so this year will be the real test.
  17. Hard or soft, Its all Good!
  18. First year in a long time I am not going to have my boat in the water and out fishing by the last week of march. I have fished the last week of feb during lite winters out of my 18' jon boat but I belive the 2 week of march is the soonest Ive ever had the big boat in. So just curious: What is the earliest you have ever been in and Fishing?
  19. gotch ya cant help with that one. I have never fished lake superior. Only boat ride ive taken on it is the pictured rocks tour out of Munising.
  20. Hi John Are you refering to black river harbor in southhaven?
  21. Ive run mine for three years now and I am going to change it this year. I change the leader on the end 3 to 4 times a year. the lead core itself is still good and when I strip it off I will reuse some of it for swr rigs. Primary reason is to change the Mono backer. 3 seasons is pushing any mono and these were spooled from when I bought them with 20lb big game.
  22. This has been true since they went to rear disk brakes in 1999 I belive. I only have my truck serviced at a Gm goodwrench service center here in plainwell and after the first brake job they told me to go with aftermarket brakes and to stay away from the Genuine Gm replacemant brakes. I was told that they had the problem worked out for the 07 and 08. My truck is a 2000.
  23. No You only leave skin on to cook, which most guy who bake , grill or smoke do anyway. when fish is done it falls right off with very little or no effort Im going to kick it up a notch and try marinaria sauce latled down the middle for a little more flavor next time it make it. spring better get here soon, Im getting low on fillets.
  24. Bob I have not yet posted the recipe but it is simple Just take a whole salmon Filet with skin on and lay it on a cookie sheet or baking pan with a little oil so the filet does not stick just like a pizza I pile on Mushrooms, peppers, Black olives, "pepperocinie/hot peppers", onions, atichokes, Old bay seasoning on top of filet and toppings, Smother it with Motzerella Cheese and bake at 400 for 10 to 15 Min or untill fillet is done. Now you may have to partially cook the fillet before you add the topping depending on how big of a fillet you use. I try and use one that wont require that as it taste bettter if all the stuff from the fixins cooks into the fillet. You can put on whatever you like for toppings I just used those because I had them. Some pepperonie might not be to bad on it.
  25. You did not mention it in your post or I would have not suggested it
