  1. Thanks for the report. spent the weekend bass fishing with my son and was up their and opted out due to lack of reports. Good to know that north is finally getting fish.
  2. clean them first with a slolvent to get any moisture out of the reels. this will require complete tear down of reels. you can use your gear lube of choice. \ I use Royal Purple on all my reels. Mobil is also good.
  3. Nice boat Jimbo.
  4. After two years of scrounging cash to put her together she is finally done. this is the first year since 2009 that I have had a boat in the water before June. last year did not have her in the water untill early summer but still had some work to do rigging . this year she is finally done. looking forward to getting back into the chasin silver
  5. No deep cycle batteries for me either.
  6. There are alot of good batteries out there and if taken care of right they should all last atleast 7 years. But look at it from this way. I went with Optima when I re-did the old silver one (221 islander). The first reason was that they are a sealed batterie. they are not gell filled as some think. They are spiral cell led acid batteries. boats tend to rock and roll and non sealed batteries have a vent most of the time, and on hot days when you are working your batteries you can(not always) get some leakeage from these batteries causing some batterie acid to get on and around some things. Putting them in batteries boxes helps but still a mess to clean. The optimas also have a diod in them that is currentl limiting. meaning you can't run them completly dead and you cant over charge them. I ran them for almost 10 years on the old silver one relplaced them and still have the old ones I still use for tractors and whatever. As far as electronics they should always have their own circut right from the batterie. this will eliminate static, harmonic and frequency noise causing interference on radios and gps's. I would also reccomend a switch and yes I alternate when starting and running. When I run at the end of the day I will put the switch on both and run in and then alternate primary batteries each trip. It really depends on what kind of load you have on them. Hope this helps.
  7. Nice Ed. thanks for sharing.
  8. hey dude. send me a text. I lost my phone in a duck hunting incident last fall and dont have your contact number. As soon as the ice is out my boat will be ready.

  9. I replace them if they are bad but a hook that has not been comprimised from being bent or rust should be fine. sharpen then every time I put one on. I have a very fine small flat file right on the boat. takes less then a minute to hone a hook if you have done it enough. If the hook is bent or straightened then off it comes and on with a new one.
  10. sorry the pic covers up my sentence. but it says I was just curious basically. was not sure if it would fit. I just got out of an Islander and loved it but love my new crestliner. That is a great price on that boat jon.
  11. I was just curious frank. I just sold My 221 Islander and bought this brand new. I was playing with the idea in my head of selling this boat . but I probobly wont.
  12. Sorry I miss read that. I thought it read it does have a trailer. My mistake.
  13. Just curious do you know how tall the highest point of the boat is when sitting on the trailer? just want to know if this boat will go under a 10' overhead door.
  14. Her is mine. 2nd week of August out of Pentwater. My wife on the left and her Friend Kristy with her first ever fish caught out of any lake.
  15. YUM!
  16. Nice!
  17. I would say by this weekend there will be safe fishing in the souther part of Mi. I have to work.
  18. That would be Wolf lake lodge and rental. Good place to stay and you can leave right from the lodge. No staging of the sleds. Right off of M 37 north of baldwin. you can hit the trail north to cadilac, welston, luther, or go south to baldwin and hit the white pine trail south. good central location. Only draw back is how much snow we get. That would determine how far north and where I would rent sleds. hope that helps. Joe, recently reitired ex- sled head.
  19. Thanks for sharing Ed. I love the pictures.
  20. Its all going to depend on Mother Nature. Sometimes if the water warms up early to the south Pentwater and Luddington get really good fishing in june. Last year the water stayed pretty cool well into late june and most of the bait stayed south. There was still good fishing but mostly steelies, browns, and laketrout, with a mix of kings and coho. You will get more of a mixed box then one type of fish.
  21. Ed Those are some dandy gills.
  22. With the snow on the ground this morning and even thought we have about 45 days of hunting left, the thought of hard water has me thinking it might be a good time to get the gear out and get set up. Had a tough year for ice last year in the Allegan,Barry county area but when I did get out I had the best season for ice fishing I have ever had. just wondering how many out there hit the hard water when it arrives.?
  23. I went with Humminbird. Got the 598 ci si hd. I love it and Humminbird customer service is great. Had an issue with my Ice 35 last year right after I bought it. contacte them. they paid for shipping to send it back and then sent me a brand new one to replace it. No questions asked. I had Garmin on the old silver one and I liked it very much but Birds side immaging and down immaging are second to none. I have had lowrances and have not been happy with them. Not sure about the new ones.
  24. Headed north for the opener for waterfoul wich I have not done in over 6 years. Use to hunt ducks more than I fished so took the dog who is 10 years old and headed out. Had a limit of woodys in 10 min sat morning Just a note. I put a neopren vest on my dog and it got hung up on a stump in a bogg while retriveing a duck sat afternoon. dog almost drowned and I had to swim out and rescue him. was not thinking about what was on me so I lost my phone and my video camra to the water as they were submerged when my wadders filled up as the dog was way out over my head. But on a good note He never dropped the duck. got him unstuck and he brought it back. we called it an afternoon when that was over. Good numbers of woodys and geese up north. no Mallards that I saw anywhere i was hunting. I will never put a vest on a dog again. had he not had the vest he would have swam right through it.
  25. This is my 12 year old daughter Haylie and this is her first deer. It was awsome for me to watch as I have now watched both of my sons and now my daughter harvest their first deer. She waited it out untill late lastnight holding out for a buck but all we saw were does, So she finally pulled the trigger at 7:10 pm last night. she hit it back and low so we gave it an hour and found it around 9.00 pm
