  1. Anyone ever fish the piers this time of year for whitefish? I have herd that Muskegon is a good spot and is going to pick up in the next couple of weeks. Just wondering where and what people use to catch these? Any other good ports for these fish?
  2. for us all spoons worked will with ss bloody nose on full core being a very hot set up. Stingers caught alot of fish however D/W blue dolphin and along with the bloody nose caught fish every trip out. For the after and before dark bite the stinger nitro's were the hot ticket as time of day made some spoons work better then others. Run them long enought and find a big school of fish and they will all work. Also have a 25 year old Northport nailer green with orange and chartruse tape that we run on a slider rig that produced and has produced alot of fish this season and past.
  3. Sweet Mount.
  4. Wow: Had a couple of buddies take me to hooters for my birthday to watch the Michigan Michiganstate game. Hooters is not really my thing but I was a good sport and went along and the best part is that right next door is gandermountain. So after a few hours at hooters and some good eats and a few to many cocktails we walked over to gander and I bought some laundry soap for camos and a new tree stand. We left gander and made our way back to My home town of martin. Pulled in our drive, luckly I was not driving , and looked pretty quiet. I stumbled out of my buddies car and he grabed my stand out of the trunk of his car for me and preceded to the garage. reached around to turn on the light and approx 40 people yell suprise and scare the ?#$^& out of me. As it my 40th birthday. Freinds and food and drink and good time it was awsome. So my wife wips out this box and hands it to me and says happy birthday. So I sit down and open it and low and behold She bought Me a brand new Mathews DXT. I belive I Said holly crap. Wow what do you say. what a wife. I am very lucky. Thanks to all who showed up and to my brothers and GLF who made the party. I will not forget it. Made it over to Bobs gun and tackle as that is where she bought the bow and set it up and shot approx 75 arrows today. I love it.
  5. It is by species. however differernt bodies of water have different regulations. which body of water does this fall in. I would have to say of hand that he is wrong because the rule reads no more then three of one spcies. I just double checked on michgian.gov/dnr and it reads as follows ( No more then 5 salmon or trout, no more then three of one species in any combination, and no more then two lake trout. and it states great lakes however there are alot of special notes and I did not see any for lake superior so i would asume that it falls under the above catigorie.
  6. awsome Terrry We are officially done for the year as I winterized the boat last thursday. and pulled all the fishing eqipment out for the winter. Still have the 18' river boat and may try and make it out if the seas allow it. That is some speed you guys were running I belive 3.5 is the fastest ive ever run and caught fish. good info. thanks
  7. I would have said DW pickled sonshine at the beginning of the season followed by purple toco seaweed but after fishing the canadian Ketchup yourgurt fly next to them I would have to say it ranks right up there along with of course any blue bubble behind an 8" pro troll.
  8. Dude that does sound like an omen. I would have started looking around and make sure that King titan was not going to realease the crackin. Nice catch. might try and make it out sunday for one last run.
  9. the link is already on this web site under web cams. then click on Lake superior state web cam. That was my original question is if anyone had looked at it yet since GLF added it to the web cams? its pretty cool to watch.
  10. Just remember its not sieze that matters:eek:
  11. Anyone check out the lakesuperior state university fish came under web cams . It looks pretty cool today. clear water and sunlight you can see a ton of fish.
  12. For as short of fishing season as I had due to coaching commitments the fishing was as good as it has been. I feel the last 5 seasons on the silver one have been no better or no worse. at times we struggled in the summer to find big numbers but always manage a coupel of fish which make any trip worth while. Southaven is a tough port to fish in mid summer and has made me more apt to moving up to Saugatuck, Manistee, luddington, during these times as having my boat on a trailer give us options. St.Joe was good early for us. However as you know if you dont fish everday your odds decrease drastically and that is where all of you and this site come in. Thanks to all who report. Also my wife and I just purchased a little cabin up north with in 30 min to either Manistee or luddington. I forsee alot more trips with the boat further north. We are officially done for the year and I wish all still going out the best of luck. Looking forward to getting back in the Deer woods and chasing that elusive booner.
  13. WTG: nice to see guys gettin out still and finding fish.
  14. Sthil!
  15. Do you work for opec?. But yes you are right however we as people have a duty of fairness to the rest of the world or so we are told so why should 1% of the world get away with this and the rest of us suffer. Martha stewart would agree with me im sure.
  16. You hit the Nail right on the head nailer. wanted to get out this weekend however being a football coach in the fall takes about 95% of my time.
  17. Im re posting this in respose to being a Yogurt Fly feild tester as I mentioned the Canadian Katchup as one of out riggs in on this trip. I have fished this half a dozen times or so and have found it to be most effective on the wire dipsy with either a blue and white spin doctor or a blue and white pro troll. This set up took three of the nicer kings in the pics above. Having fished a number of different brands over the years I feel that from a manufacturing stand point that this fly is a good one. Seems to be durable and does not fall appart after a couple of uses like some flys I have used. I like this color and I like the hook and bead configuration of the newer ones I recieved in the mail for testing. will post more as when I get out, I plan to use these in my arsenal.
  18. I think I could help as I have already been fishing them from samples given to me at the big John Pro am by the steelheaders this past spring and I have been having alot of success with Canadian Ketchup. I have two of the same color and would love to try some other colors as these flys seem to be real durable. I have been fishing this set up with a blue 8"pro troll the last three trips behing a wire dipsey, been one of our better setups. I believe I mentioned these on the last couple of posts.
  19. Way to put the smack on em terry.
  20. Hawg Down dude. way to rip em.
  21. Forgot to mention one thing. We were north between 28 and 32 and we were marking Alot of fish along with big schools of bait. My friend Rolly on the bald eagle was tearing them up. He made it out early and ended up 16 for 20 or so.
  22. Went 2 for 3 in approx 45 min to an hour and then pulled them in. Got out on the water at approx 9:30 am and set up in 110 ft of water . got three in the water and wire dipsey went of with a protroll and blue bubble fly 130 back dipsey set on 3. Lost that one. Got it back in the water and turned around to set my next rod and same set up hit a nice around 7lb coho. Got him in the boat set my next two riggers and deep rigger was going off. thought we had a doubel as the one right next to it went off two. Thought we had a tangle as these were set at 90 and 100 down. Pulled in around 10lb laker with bolth my back rigger set ups in its mouth. Never had that happen before. One was blue dolphin the other was carmel dolphin. Right after that the wife started heaving over the side and that was all she wrote. was heading back in around 10:30 or so.
  23. Nice trip Jim Were you north or south of the harbor?
  24. Nailer A word of caution when running flasher flys that far back on the rigger. Only run one and run it deep. If you have more then one that far back and dont have it deep you will end up with a heck of a mess, especiall on turns. Remember the further you run those back the more rotation you will have. It does work. You have to be diligent especially in a boat like mine that is only 8'wide.
