  1. All you had to do was start using the boat rather then just look at it and think about using it. For those who are wondering supertramp is my Dad.
  2. I know. its in the back of my mind. Ive got 3 days off before the trounement. That should be ample time to nail down the fish in southaven unless they are going laketrout fishing in 350 foot of water like last year. I did make it out there lastyear but im not crazy about running that far out in my boat as I have been caught in some bad storms with my old man in the past years 20+ miles off shore. Thought we were going to buy the farm more then once. One nice thing. When fishing southaven I have all the info from previous years on my gps and the patterns have changed very little if not at all over the last 10 years.
  3. Now that sounds good. I like the andys cajun batter mix myself. over the last coulple of years this has become one of my favorites.
  4. thanks for the report. Nice to here that the fish are finally moving North.
  5. going to head back up again this comming weekend. Got a report that they opened the Dam in scottvill and let a bunch of steelhead come up the pm, going to try and throw some flys for a trophy and then get ready for the southaven pro am the following weekend. I have one onther question. Whats your favorite way to cook up your morrels?
  6. Took the weekend off of the big lake to head up to the Hunting cabin and found about 1lb of black morrels in the federal forrest south of pettibone lake near Bitley. Also caught a nice 15" brookie on the fly rod. did not have my camera but the brookie was beautiful. The mushrooms are just starting as they are later this year then past. The blacks are just starting to come up out there. so the whites should be another week or two. My neighbor up at the huntin cabin was kind enough to show me some of his brookie hot spots not only that He shared fired bluegill fillets with us on friday. I told him anyone who will share his fried gill fillets has to be a good guy. I am going to share some fresh ho with him next weekend as I will be going back up. Saw alot of nice browns being takin below Gleasons landing on the PM. I am really getting into this fly fishing. pretty relaxing compaired to running 16 rods off of the back of the Islander.
  7. Looking like I wont get out untill the 14th of may. we will be pre fishing for the pro am. Im going to hold off this year untill the night of the captains meeting as the weather has kicked my butt the last two years. if the forcast looks good on friday then were in if not the we will pass. Boy its already end of April first of may and been blown off the lake once and second trip out of southaven. Normally Ive already been atleast a half a dozen time. Maybe Rapture is comming.
  8. Thanks for sharing the pics guys . Good job Jay and crew.
  9. Im on the oppistie end of the spectrum. Like Nailer said it is $100 a trip no matter how you slice it. Gas for the boat, Gas for the truck, Boat launch fee not to mention somone always looses one of your riggs. if it is a rigger its 5 to 10 dollers if it a dipsey or a core or copper then those who dont do this dont realize that your into it for another 50 to 75. Ive been out twice this year and have not recieved a dime for my trouble. I have people wanting to go out all the time but when it comes time to anty up then they get fecle corn count in there wallets. I belive Mooskey is the only partner I have had that always pitches in. but there again he has a boat and knows what it cost. I actuall had a guy invite himself out. He helped with driving my boat while I ran the back. caught fish and then said to me I drove the boat so I should not have to donate gas money. He has never been on my boat again. This is an ongoing battle from year to year. When those same people ask me to take them out I tell them they are better off taking a charter. I find the only ones that are willing to anty up are fellow fishermen that are boat owners.
  10. Jarod: that looks tasty. Im going home from work today and firing up the smoker.
  11. Wouldd be more then glad to take you out but the 25th wont work for me as It is my weekend to work. Wont get out again untill May 2nd.
  12. Dan Will be contacting you after the third week of may as I will be fishing tournements overhere. My father inlaw and I want to take a walleye charter out on the bay. We thought about trailering my boat over but crunched the numbers for gas,Bait, more tackle as I am more rigged up for salmon and we just cant beat it for the one time a year that we go over.
  13. Thanks for the replys from everyone. It is the alternator as it has been taken in and tested. That alternator should be putting our atleast 13.5 volts or higher at Idle speed and should be reading over 14v accoding to lorburg who is my alternator and starter guy. He has been in business out of wayland/Dorr for over 25 years. Very thourgh guy.
  14. Thanks Terry I only made it down about a mile south of the power plant. Should have kept trolling south. Two of the lakers I cought were on thinfins on 1 color swr rigs 100' and 100 out on line boards. last one was on the rigger again on a thin fin. I belive it was 16' down and 8' behind the ball in 30' of water.
  15. Thanks for the feed back guys. Being an Electrician I have access to some pretty good equipment. My father in law a retired electrician from Steelcase has a DC load tester good up to 1000 amps. We put the load tester to my batteries last night and They are good to go.Voltage lastnight was 12.85 volts at each batterie after the load test was done. I belive nailer hit it on the head with my regulator being the root cause and being that this unit is not electronic ignition your regulator comes right off of your alternator. Lohrburgs up in wayland is a family friend so we drove the alternator up to him lastnight and my suspision of the brushes being shot was accurate. He is going to just go ahead and do a complete rebuild of it for me. The only batterie I got ten years out of was my Mason batterie out of my jon boat, aka (just duckin off). It was a lead acid batterie. So far I am happy with the optimas. But being they are 7 years old Im starting to loose my piece of mind. I am going to buy new ones. I feel at this point I will go with the optimas again. If I go lead acid I will go with Masons. Ken I am curious to know what it is that was found to be a problem with the gell filled that you mentioned.
  16. Yes I belive there is a voltage regulator and that is another thing I will check. thanks for the reminder.
  17. I have 2 optima batteries. I also have a batterie tender system built in for Gel filled batteries. Now my read out that I am giving is off of my Garmin fishfinder and my garmin Gps. I put my Fluke Meter on it last year and I was getting around 14 volts at the alternator. My batteries are still reading the same voltage as they did when they were new as they are 12.58 volts right out of the box. The batteries never went dead just seemed odd that they were struggling to turn the engine over. I shut off all the electronics and it rolled over the engines as well as it normally does. I have just never seen a reading of 12.8 v. My alternator is the original from the boat being new in 1989. So I guess I should knock on wood and say I got my Moneys worth. The other ? in my head is how long will these gel filled batteries last as they are on there 7th season. Being that they were a new product when I bought them, everyone could only take the manufactures word for how long they last. So these I feel are still Questionable. Im tring to talk myself out of spending money on batteries but I feel my concious getting the better of me and saying just buy two new batteries if for anything a piece of mind.
