  1. Awsome King. thanks for sharing a pic. good to see healthy fish in the big pond again.
  2. Thanks for the report Andy. Looks like the fish moved north in a hurry this year.
  3. Nice catch guys. Hunter is a great little guy to have one a boat. I got the pleasure of fishing on the glf last summer, with hunter and you never here a complaint out of the little guy and he does whatever dad ask. you keep on the net hunter. Dad always said you cant make an omlet without breaking a few eggs.
  4. I took the sight seeing boat up the shore of pictured rocks with my family two years ago and I am jelous of you guys. your view is definently better then ours.
  5. Rolly told me that his crew was the oldest crew in southaven. Not bad for a bunch of old timers. Nice catch.
  6. good luck to all of you. I will be North Chasin big Gills and smallmouth.
  7. add a snubber. The shortest I would go is 8". I run all 10''. usually your dipsey set up with wire is your best Hook to catch ratio. There is no streatch in wire so it sounds like your possibly pulling the hooks right our of the fish. the snubber will help the hook set. When setting your drag you want to let the creek just a little so that if it a big fish hits, it can run with it wile it is still in the rod holder. This is pretty mutch how everyone runs wire as evryone above stated. Good luck.
  8. Small world. Ive had that happen alot when im cleaning fish and dont know who it is im standing next two. that is the only draw back of the internet. had I known I would have extended my had and said Hi. You guys had a nice catch as well. We did not do so well the first day as my hook to catch ratio started out 1 for 5 but ended up bring in 8. New crew so they were still learning my program. Did well on sunday but the numbers were so hi the first day that even a 200 pt day could not bring us back up we brought in 9 on sunday but all were in the 10lb plus class so we had a great weigh in on sunday. Nice job on a third place finish in a very competitive tournement with a lot of good captains.
  9. finaly got the photo bucket issue fixed here is a pic of Fridays catch with Mooskey and Denny
  10. Had a real chance to fish the yogurt flys this past weekend and really give them a test. These are well built flys. The hooks are salt water resistant and hard as any ive seen on the market. I asked Grant and Tim at the captians meeting which hooks they were using and they told me but i cant remember. but they are a plus. If i had to reccomend a favorite it would come down to " cant touch this" and Canadian Ketchup. another one that produced is a fly get ya some. These were some of the flys that were sent to me by grant and Tim last fall and due to medical issues I was not able to get out and test them. So Grant and Tim I owe ya one. I did purchase another Dozen just recently as I give them a 10 as well on how they are built. very strong and durable.just the right amount of skirting. These are know one of my favorites and are not overpriced. Thanks Tim and Grant of yogurt flys. Two thumbs up.
  11. Nice box andy. I wish you guy could have fished it to. Hope you get the motor problems fixed without dumping a bunch of money into her. That would have been a good boat to fish out of in the conditions we had.
  12. Nice Jim. Have you had a chance to use the roller rods yet?
  13. Nice catch. Who is that guy with the beard. could that be TT. Great fishing with a greenhorn crew. cudos to the captain.
  14. Fished the tournement with Moosekey, father inlaw and Dennis Hagemen. Friday the 15th went 17 for 25 with a mixed cooler of Kings, steelhead, coho and laketrout. Riggers, wiredipsey and copper were hot. took fish in 80' out to 160' of water. caught fish from straight out almost all the way to saugatuck. 8'protrol with cant touch this yoggurt fly took fish, 10' protrol with canadian ketchup yogurt fly took fish bolth on the wire. Yellowtail streak on copper was a hot set up. and Mongoose J plug on a full core took fish. Green machine stinger on the rigger took fish and the hottest set up was blue dolphin steak on 2color swr rig on the rigger 105 down. fish were caught between 45' down to 125' Sat went 8 for 12 on the first day of the tournement. all as the sam as above were productive started out hot went 6 for 10 first hour and then the front moved in and the fish moved north. wanted to get north but to rough. ended up picking up two more after that. Sunday went 9 for 13. Most boats went north and fished saugatuck. started out slow untill we got up to glen and then started to stack them. just ran our of time. We took alot of nice spring kings. Most were 10 to 12lb with 4 in the 18lb class. Also took a 15lb laker today. all in all a good three days of fishing. Southhaven still has good fishin but most of the fish have moved north. for big numbers saugatuck is hot right now. My crew was the best crew i have had. Mooskey did a great job driving the boat in some pretty bad conditions. current and waves were tough. Dennis is an excellent fisherman as well. I was lucky to have him as he fishes off of the early bird in grand haven and has a few wins under his belt. great bunch to have on the boat. This was one of the highest point tournements for May I have seen I had a personl best with 315 pts. but there were some excellent fishermen out there this weekend that were scoreing in the 490s. all in all it was a very competitve tournement. First time in 3 years they got two full days in. Not Ideal conditions but fishable. I have a couple of good pic but photobuckett is not working right now. will post later when it is back up.
  15. Doug I use to fish roller rods and had that problem. Now im not saying that all roller rods are that way. I had the okuma blue diamonds which are pretty good and my buddy had the tolora rods buy shammano and also has the same issue. I switched to titanium eyelet guides with a twil tip and have been very happy. I have had no issues with wire since switching to this type of set up. As far as brands its all in what you like but im pretty happy with this set up.
  16. 3 for 3 is good fishing. atleast your hook to catch ratio is 100%. that is darn good. dont let big numbers fool you if you can consistantly catch 3 fish a trip then you will eventually hit the mother load. Nice job.
  17. Nice pics phill. thanks for sharing.
  18. way to put the smack down on them guys. Is it me or do the kings seem bigger this year then last?
  19. Sorry for the late report. Went up to the Huntin shack this past weekend and did a little more pan fishing. Hit Pettibone lake 5:00 pm on Fri 5/8. There were fish shallow but most were small with an occasional 9 incher. found 8 to 9 inchers consistantly in 12' of water. ended up with 14 in the 8 to 9 inch range. One of our new neighbors up the Little Jacob who is 12 yrs old halled in the biggest blue gill I have ever seen and Im 40 years old. Theres not a lot to do up there but hunt and fish and this boy lives up there and really has no one his age to hang out with other then my son when we are up there. He is a good kid. I put the ruler to his gill and it was 12.5 inches long. I did not weigh it but it was all of 1lb. Jake is one heck of a young fisherman. I wish I would have had my camera along. you guys would have loved it. Water was still cool and really did not see any action up on the beds yet. alot of Bass cruising the shallows. Its going to be a late spawn this year. Rest of the weekend was a blow as that cold front shut everything down. Atleast we go one good evening in.
  20. That is correct. The males like all of us do the hard work first and then the females come in and do there thing. They are a little late on gun this year as the water is still in the High 50s to low 60s once it hits about 64 they will move in. We always associate the stanley cup championship with our best crappie fishing. if they cup finals are on they we are out fishing for crappies.
  21. Nice Roger. My son and I were on Gun lake last night and all we caught were Pike and bass. water is a little cold yet the fish are still deep. Were any of them females and how deep of water were you targetting. reason I ask is we spend alot of time patterning crappies. water on gun is about 60 degrees still. once the water hits 64 ish 65 ish They will be up on the beds.
  22. Im not sure who makes it but I bought the 2 banks from cabellas. And if it says cablellas on it they back it. Im sure it is made by some company like the one you mentioned. I had mine on the boat for a year and got a lightening strike on the barn and took it out. Called cabellas and they replaced it no questions asked. just food for thought. I have had the same expirence with bass pro as if it is there name on it they are more willing to make it right with you. just fyi,
