usually make it out last week of March first week of april out of st.Joe and the spread I run will be 6 high lines. 1#j11 and 1 #j13 orange rapala. next inline will be 2 red tiger brads thin fins. inside that will be orange and gold tadpollys. next I run 4 riggers. inside two I will start with spoons and will also run tadpollys, hot n tots and wiggle warts 6 to 8' behind the usually 5 to 8 feet off of the bottom depending how shallow I am. I like to run my inside boards in the first trough off the shoreline. On my outside riggers I will run 00 red and orange dogers with penut flys about 18'' behind the doger and 5 to 6' behind the ball. Your usally targeting coho this time of year and riggers can be hot and coho love the sound of the engine. If you hit a school I have had every rigger go off at once. We call that a chinese fire drill. I also like to run two high lines straight down the schute no further back then 40' with thunder sticks. this has produced some big browns over the years.

I agree 100%. I have had my subtroll on my boat for 5 years now and last year I only put the probe on once. Found I did better paying attention to my rigger cables and divers and the pitch of the engine. Funny how your ears tune into that. Its nice to know the temp but that is about it. and You can spend alot less just to know that.

Good point. alot of times I will throw a yarn egg with my fly rod tipped with a single real egg. has been pretty effective over the years. -

Andy The Kalamazoo is a great steelhead fishery. I fish from the Allegan Dam all the way down to new richmond . I have fished spawn with bobbers on a flyrod drifting it threw the holes and Also do alot of drop back with tadpollys, hotntots and wigglewarts. Honestly I have caught most of my fish over the years using the motor to hold steady in the river and just work the boat side to side and move up after you work an area with hotntots and tadpollys. Have your anchor ready' if you do hit a fish' you can drop anchor and fight the fish without having to worry about contorlling the boat. Orange and gold is your best bet on the kazoo along with black and red. and or any combo with orange or red. Darker is better then lighter most days depending on the clairity of the the water. I fish 4 rods off of my 18 ' john boat not because I cant fish more but I have better hook to catch ratios as you dont have time to move a bunch of gear on the river once you hook up. I fish the front two rods closer to the boat and the back two futher back with about 10' of seperation between luhrs. and about 6' apart with my adjustable rod holders inside rod tip to outside rod tip. fish the front and back edges of the deep holds and look for the breaks on the front and back side of bends in the river. this is were fish like to hang out. Might see me out on sunday afternoon weather providing and if I get all of my duck hunting gear off of the boat and all the fishing gear back on. If your going to fish from shore then spawn is your best bet find bends in the river and cast out up current and let the spawn work down river into the hole and let is sit. drop it back after a few and work it up slow. -
nice Justin. I fished Huzzy as a kid growing up in Schoolcraft and your story brings back alot of good memories. Huzzy always was a good pike and bluegill lake. thanks for the share.

Hi everyone If your as passionate and concerned as I am on preserving our fishery then I just wanted to let everyone know that you can go on line to Michigan attorney general Mike Coxe's web site and fill out his online petition. I tried posting the link wich I have on my email at work but it wont let me for some reason pull it from my computor at home. Im working on trying to figure it out. but anyway you can go and fill out the petition and for what it is worth I think every signature is important. I did a signature for every person in my house.
