The fish were scattered for us this AM. Not as many marks as last night. Lots more dirty water pumping into the lake from the river. We fished a mile or so north of port. We couldn't find much of a pattern. Meat, mag spoons and flasher flies got hit. Colors included white, green, blues. No hits on orange. Green and blue flounder did not get touched. Baits with dots seemed to be the only common thread. (So blues and greens with dots worked.) 200 Cu and divers were the best rods. Worked 74 to 124 FOW. Fish were scattered in that range. Most hits were 30 - 45 feet down. Water temp was 45 to 46 70 feet down. North troll seemed to work best. 4 lakers, 1 coho, 3 kings. Biggest king was 18 pounds. Fun trip, but we had to work for them. Heading out Sat AM. 100 cu, 200 cu, 300 Cu, riggers down 60 and divers down 40 - 60 took fish. Sent from my LG-Q710AL using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

Cannon Electric Down Rigger Question

45 - 55 FOW was best for us. 2 lakers boated. Missed 1 laker and lost 2 silver fish, one of which felt like a teener and had some nice runs. Silvers where on orange regular sized moonshine spoons on 100 Cu. 2 lakers on spin & glows on bottom and 1 on a braid slide diver and rasta goose spoon (reg size) down about 30' (out 100'). All fish were taken right out front of the pier heads. I did find warmer south about 2 miles (45.5 surface instead of 43.5) and inside of 50 fow, and had a few marks there, but didn't get any hits. After taking the picture, I noticed I had the spin doctor attached directly to the dipsy diver snubber I was running on bottom. I forgot to put a leader between the snubber and spin doctor, which is how I usually do it. But hey, it put a fish in the boat. Sent from my LG-Q710AL using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

Thanks for the update. I've been watching the waves trying to figure out which side of the state to fish on with the kids. I've only fished the inline boards, so I'm not sure why the hookup rate is different.

St. Joe was slow this am for everyone that I heard on the radio and talked to at the dock Fished 30 fow out to 120 fow. Beyond about 90 fow it was very cold water. Surface temps were 42 out there. Finally started marking some fish towards the end of the trip in 85 fow. Finished with a throwback steelhead. Tried spoons, flasher flies and 1 meat rig. Battled some tangles which set us back a bit. The few boats the caught a king got them in 75 to 85 fow. We saw some nice marks 55 to 60 ft down. The water was very chalky out to around 75 fow. You couldn't find clean water until around 110. Is South Haven as google as St Joe’s for May Salmon

South Haven should be solid in mid-May. We've nailed them in Grand Haven the 3rd week of May. -

No, I haven't been out yet this year. I have my boat in getting some maintenance done on it and the darn shutdown happened and my guy struggled to get parts to finish the job. It sounds like he's got a plan, but it has made the progress slow. I've been watching the water temps and I'm waiting for them to warm up just a bit. That will help concentrate the bait and the coho. I'd like to take the kids down to the Southern basin and catch some. We'll wait for a nice day to do that. Then beginning in May, I plan to chase to the kings as they work their way north. I expect to take a trip or two in April before hitting it hard in May. -

Those in the dark runs to and from port going to be a little slower for me this year I think. There is a lot of debris in the lake. Look at some of the pictures in this article. https://www.mlive.com/news/2020/03/huge-waves-batter-lake-michigan-shoreline.html

Ran a little south where we had done well during early spring fishing. The ESE wind really picked up a lot sooner than I thought it would. I had the 3 kids with me so we stayed closer to shore as it was calmer. The horizon looking West was really rough. We trolled S for a bit and the spun back N. Stayed between 40 fow and 70 fow. Most of the marks were in the 45-55 fow range. Really started marking the fish good once we got back to the front of the pierheads, which was when we had to pull lines to leave for a horseback riding trip. Finished the morning with 1 small laker and two small throwback kings we found when pulling lines. Sent from my LG-Q710AL using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App

I know some walleye guys use them and they will troll around 1 to 1.8. Towing those umbrella rigs might be tricky with the big boards. Sent from my LG-Q710AL using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
