OHIO Changes Perch Limits ! ! ! Weak hatches lead to bag limit reduction In response to weak yellow perch hatches in 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006, Ohio Governor Ted Strickland has issued an executive order to reduce the sport fishing bag limit for Lake Erie yellow perch from 40 to 30. The Lake Erie yellow perch bag limit for sport anglers was only recently increased to 40 in 2006 and prior to that has been 30 over the past nine years. “We are making the decision to manage the perch harvest in order to assure the long-term vitality of this important natural resource,†said Sean Logan, director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. “Like Ohio’s deer herd, the perch population is an example of a continuous work in progress. Our goal as managers is to stay flexible, stay informed, and always be ready to adapt when change is needed.†Read more... http://click.wildohionews.com/?ffcb1...727163017e7c13 __________________ There is a place for ALL of GOD's creatures; "right next to the potatoes and gravy

sounds like your pump is "froze up" like you said, or there is something in there keeping the impeller from turning causing and over load.

I have fished this tourney in the past. Great bunch of people there. We didn't place for the prizes, but what a fish fry we had afterwards. Hoping to do it again this year.

I was talking to the bait shop owner a few days ago, befroe the snow came back. We were discussing when the walleye should be in the river again, for the spring run. He proceeded to remind me what has happened here for the last few years, the fish would no more than start to show up, and we would get hit with a snow storm. And sure enough we got hit again ! Almost like somebody don't want me catching walleye's in the spring . LOL Oh well so it goes. Let's see what next week brings...

Yeah man the roads are all white and slickery here too. 2 days ago it was 80 degrees, not this . LOL

Most Productive Depth For Walleye for 06'
shu9265 replied to Reel_Screamer's topic in Walleye Fishing Discussion
I got the majority of my eye's over 68-70 fow, usually down 35-45 with dipsey's being the way to go. The hot lure till mid july were the MI Stingers in oil slick chicken wing, monkey puke, and superman. After about mid July I switched over to a larger watermelon, metallic spoon. And we couldn't keep them off the things! Of course I always have 1 firetiger worm harness out there behind a big dipsey on "0" setting 35' back on the reels line counter. so figure 8' leader and 35' from the reel, right in the prop wash, the walleye like it there for some reason. And when one of them hits it it a beutiful site seeing that rod start dancing like it does ! I can't wait! -

Nice lookin fish guys. Just one question, what pound test line are you using on those spinning rods? -
I wanna put mine in, But the channel is block for dredging for another 2-3 weeks.

Wal Mart has spider wire on clearance. I was at Walmart this afternoon, and found spider wire in 20# test for $5.00 a spool. Look in sporting goods on the endcaps they are marked Clearance.

That's what it sounds like, the senders are probably bad. I have to replace the one's on mine too. Cost is around $100 for the pair. In addition you have to pull the outdrive and the yoke, cause the wires have to go in thru the bellows housing. I will be doing mine as soon as it warms up enough that I can work outside. Wanna help? That way you will have experience when it comes time to do yours. hehehe

Yeah Man it was fun ! Hope to see and meet more peeps there next time.

I am just wondering if anyone has tried using cut bait rigs for walleye? We used to use these "cut bait rigs" on Lake Ontario for salmon, using smelt, I am just wondering if anyone has tried this method for Lake Erie walleye? I mean they feed on smelt later on in the summer, so why wouldn't this work ? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

The use of RED in fishing.
shu9265 replied to Walleye Express's topic in Great Lakes Fishing Discussion
Between 40 and 70 FOW. I tried to follow the schools and then after we got fish from one location, go and look for more in other locations. There are a couple of us that try to find different schools of fish, that way if one is being stubborn, we can try another one. Also make it a little more interesting than just going to one location over and over. It also give us a chance to experiment with different lure combinations in different depths of water. -
The use of RED in fishing.
shu9265 replied to Walleye Express's topic in Great Lakes Fishing Discussion
Last year, I bought some RED snap swivels, when I used these, I got hits like crazy, But, NO fish . When I went back to using the black ones, I got fish. To prove a point, I used both colors at the same time. The same stingers, leads, and dipsey colors. The ones with the black swivels out did the red ones all week long. Since then I got rid of ALL the red swivels from my boat. Just my 2cents to help muddy up the waters. -
Hi Ray, Good to see you here. GREAT bunch of peeps here. *Somebody make this Dam snow go away !!! I wanna go fishin ! !

Capt. Dan, Here is another way that works well for me. When soaking fish, use approx 4 tablespoons of baking soda, yeah the stuff they use in the fridge, this helps to remove any strong flavors from the fish. Remember, after soaking any fish, ALWAYS add fresh water to the container and allow the old water and oils to flow out and down the drain. If you lift the fish through the stuff on top, yo have defeated the purpose.

Caz, I also switched over to the braided lines, I use PowerPro 30# test 8# diameter. and 20# mono for the backer. But, I'm fishing for walleyes and not kings... I also use a leader of 30# flourocarbon line with a snubber between the dipsey and the leader.
-
Thanx Capt. Dan. I have a bunch of the small one too, that I have used with planner boards and worm harnesses. Reason I'm asking about the big ones, it that Dipsey's are getting expensive, since the buyout.

I keep my 24' in the water all season also. I use the copper based bottom paint from Boat US. I usually power wash it at the end of the season, then again in the spring let it dry and then I roll it on. I also clean and repaint my outdrive at the same time.

Has anyone used these ? I'm talking about the Big Jon deep diver disks. Here on Lake Erie, I use a lot of divers. And I also loose alot of divers. I am wondering if anyone here has tried these out? How do they retrieve after you hook a fish? I mean do you have to fight the fish and the disk? Thanx for the input, Bill.
