  1. Sounds good to me also. Way to go and thanks for posting. Heard some grumbling from down that way, this should give some optimism.
  2. Nice report for your first post, thanks.
  3. Very good 2hrs for the middle of the morning. Hope the daughter got hooked too and that they know its not always that way. Good job
  4. Thanks for posting the bad with the good.
  5. I second fbd. Drag the cannonballs right on the bottom if you are in a area that you can get away with it. No rocks or as the case here in the bay a lot of green slime, really cut down on this technique. You can put a release a bit above the ball. We used 6lb balls and would drag them so the rigger arms and rod tips were always bouncing. I also second the idea of running a speed relative bait if you suspect any kings are around. I have cought a bunch of kings on spoons that run at different speed ranges as well as attractor/fly setups. In over 30 years of my boat and being a mate ,I have only witnessed a few shaker and 1 mature king on a spin and glow.
  6. Welcome to the sport and the site. Tell us more info. Have you been salmon fishing before, are you familiar with any of the tackle and techniques, do you have any equipment and lastly any specific questions????
  7. I was a first mate for a charter captain that had one. We used it for tournaments also. What kind of info you looking for?
  8. Just the other day a popular thread on this site was where are the silver fish. Keep the faith all.
  9. I would say more boards. Divers can still work. Could give a better answer knowing what kind of boat, how many rod holders, gear, target species, etc., etc., etc.
  10. Nobody wants to talk about nets. I will throw my hat in the ring. Lots of salmon still going in tribal nets. I live by the Indians they take fish we plant and spend $ on nobody can dispute this see it first hand sure would be good if they stuck to the fish the great spirit planted vs the ones our license $ planted
  11. Thanks for the report. It must be something with the way you are making the twist before you put it in the release.
  12. I would have to watch you. I use them and have not had line twist. Side note you been out of Frankfort yet and if so how was it ?
  13. Nice way to change it up and take advantage of a great day. They will remember it forever
  14. Lots of potential headaches and a giant pia. The water and pine trees look the same to me as they do here.
  15. I say lots of fish here in the good old USA piss on and the hell with canada
  16. Went at least 10 years ago and heard it was a concern Probably more than 10 meat was kinda new here and we took a chance on getting herring and a drunk driver across. Made it but could have been turned away I think for the most part what u hear g Has some truth to it
  17. Wife, wine, pizza, sunset, boat ran great, and fish! Awesome shakedown cruise
  18. I am just surprised by the charter captains who post things like hurry prime dates going fast. Were hammering them call us now. We just had a cancellation. You get the picture. Not sure how many on this site would take a charter but they come across as we are all chomping at the bit to drive 500 miles to somewhere new. Or that we would love to leave are own boats sit and go throw more money for an already expensive hobby. I know guys occasionally go on a trip where they can't take there boat and or want to learn something new but not that many. The ones who do when it comes up usually just ask for a recommendation.
  19. boltman - maybe you can get to the point where you feel good enough to be the captain only. i would rather be setting in the drivers chair watching others bring in fish then home on the couch. if you have a couple friends that can help dock the boat and know how to set lines you are all set. find some kids, seniors, people with not much money etc. and invite them along-sure to be good karma for a speedy recovery. good luck !
  20. glad you cought something. used to be with my dad we would only do well when everything else went wrong. trolling with a buddy one year for spring browns we had been catching them on body baits. thought we had another on then the line started going up in the air. turned out the seagull wanted a rapala breakfast also.
  21. guys dont let this post get out of hand. It started with someone just wanting a simple fishing reports. MODERATORS THOUGHTS.....?
  22. i dont think they will work but lets say you try it and nail the steelhead. how will you know if it was the spreader bar or just catching fish you would have anyway? you allready have had success with topwater steel. maybe you try it without the spreader bar catch nothing then throw the spreader bar over and see if it lures them in ? stick with other things we have allready talked about.
  23. you will likely get the same answers as on the other board you posted this on.
  24. as above mostly lake trout with a few salmon i dont consider west bay a great salmon fishery but it has more than most of this area. when you get into august charlevoix can be good. i would put in a lot of time and pay close attn to the graph and look for potential spots then hit the gps. go to them when wind and water temp should have fish there. i am sure a lot of undiscovered fishing spots exist but this area really does not get the pressure for a bunch of guys to chime in with go here or.......
