  1. all you have will work! No other atta boy or misc crap needed. Plain and simple.
  2. totally agree fbd. I accused him of it on another site and he replied that he did support the site with banner adds. Never paid attention to them so gave him the benefit of the doubt. Also claimed a lot of give away and tourny prizes if I recall correctly. I wont buy one until I see an actual paid for add on each site he posts these so called reports on. Other tackle makers post there own reports on there website and do include speed, depth, etc. Sorry Tom no free pr here, you are actually giving a negative impact to your company.
  3. yep. Sure hope he buys adds on this site (haven't saw any) moderators should ban this nonsense.
  4. flasher and fly. Not a meat rig or conventional metal dodger, though they both could work. Mainly your favorite flasher brand and color and a fly behind it. Hope this helps.
  5. well I can't be specific on the f/f only cause lots work, not that I dont want to. That said yes this must be more of a setup than just bait answer. My favorite thing to do is put a ff on a rigger, then run a small plug on another rigger, right about the same depth, maybe a bit less and yes about the same back-- no tail gunner!! Best has been small grizzly or Lyman plug in green, no matter what the ff.
  6. I hope you help other guys by your post. I know some guys are on a budget but get used good rod holders. Save the plastic for a water bottle.
  7. can't help with the brine question. As far as soft or nothing than 100 % quality meat with the proper roll dont run it. Make it right or don't run. You could be shutting down a bait near it.
  8. ok you maybe went to far in the other direction on speed. I have heard of people getting them that fast but you never know about the current. Lets start with this- maybe find an experienced guy to go with you. If not then lets try maybe get a downrigger. Cheap used manuals are widely available. You wont be guessing on depth, just account for blowback. Try some plugs and lightweight spoons. Much more speed tolerance and will catch fish all across the speed range. Lastly learn all you can , talk to everyone you can, that said no substitute for time on the water. Go every chance you get. It will happen! Let us know when it does. Then be prepared to spend the rest of your life and money on your new obsession .
  9. I like some of the different fly brands but crazy Yankee who posts in the lake o reports, has great success with atomik
  10. I dont know where your located or fishing. I would get at least a cheap used manual rigger or two. Continued hot summer could have fish deep. Kids can fight a fish easily on a clean rigger line. If you don't already have it all you will spend more on all the copper, leadcore etc.
  11. my belief is that they are aligned with the feds and want lake trout to rule.
  12. add more flashers and fly's.and meat to the spread. Try though to picture how the spread looks to the fish. One is not necessarily better than the other. Here are examples. All spoons maybe close together or a few spoons and the meat and ff combos. The all spoon thing could look like a school of bait. The ff could shout them down vers sometimes brings them in. Main thing no matter what - dont get discouraged, experiment and play. I have a hunch speed range will be your answer. We all started this way. When I first went several trips without a fish , I never thought one day I would lose count of how many we pulled in. Pay attention to all details including speed. It will happen. Also if any experienced guys want to take you or ride with you take them up on it.
  13. dont concern yourself with a response from them. They have a ready made list of cover their ass excuses.
  14. google on phone is slow but looks like Fairport / bay denoc area.
  15. I bet not. He was eating the ghost alewives . The ones DNR claim dont exist. Oh wait they will have a ready made excuse - oh the alewives are all the same year class so were still in trouble, oh no we planted fewer fish so yes now you will get bigger ones. Not sure about what all the natural reproduced ones eat.
  16. wow ! What port was this out of ?
  17. maybe they are not pigging out on gobies down there. I used to love them smoked. Yes the fat or grease made them very moist and good. Totally different now. For catching just about anything. If you are targeting silver fish you will still get plenty of Lakers suspended and on the silver fish baits and speeds. If you want to strictly target Lakers slow down 1.6- 2 mph. Cowbells with spin and glow, dodger with spin and glo or fly or squid. Many spoons and meatrigs will get them also. All fished near or on bottom.
  18. nice catch and thanks for the report !
  19. wow I am amazed that they are even closed for a minute let alone having to explain what your doing and when. Must be different up north. I know guys who have fished the pier from Ludington north at all times of night. Other than ice or waves crashing over what reasons do they have to keep is off ? Typical government the drug dealers and meth heads will be going crazy but the cops will be seeing who is on the pier.
  20. what were the water temps, and any bait around ? That's a great shallow water catch. Wondering if some slow to horrible reports are because they went too deep.
  21. done in fbd fashion. Cool !
