  1. Made the September ritual run down from Holland and setup fishing Saugatuck at around 4.30pm today Thankfully water had finally finished turning over and was icy cold outside of the mud 1st King smoked the mini-dipsey with chrome red head in 22fow south troll right in front – MISSED EM! 2nd King drilled the rigger 15 down blue spackle jplug in 23fow same spot same direction – GOT EM! 3rd King just ripped our small dipsey with jplug that was out only 19 feet (not a typo… just two poles length) on the inside of a turn in 16fow right out front same spot – GOT EM even though the jplug harness had buried itself in him halfway down! 4th King came on the rigger down 14 bright green jplug in 20fow same spot same southern troll direction as before – GOT EM! This one was our biggest of the night 5th King just drilled a 2 color moonshine super glow plug as we trolled into and through the channel after the sun went down – MISSED EM but it was very exiting as he just crushed it but eventually got off 6th King we had go was on the rigger at 8.45pm on a glow jplug 12down as we were trolling west back out of the channel – MISSED EM as he came off for whatever reason in the darkness after 5min So we ended 3 for 6 Tried flashers and got no takers It was all jplugs and no particular pattern of plug obviously Water is very weedy so requires lots of checking and resetting lines but still had a blast! This is the very best time of year and our favorite way to catch em. Everyone has been saying how bad fishing is and how hardly any of the fish that run are 4 year olds even anymore but hey guess what it was sure good tonight and resembled success we have had the last few years. Hope they stick around for a bit!
  2. Wilson and I were rewarded for getting up early and out before sunrise off of Holland Saturday morning. Ended up 4 for 6 Had a double setting lines in 80fow at around 6am (full core Yellow Dolphin while being set… the board had just been clipped on and we were letting it out when it went – managed to land our biggest chinook of the morning and year thus far) (high dipsey blue spindoctor & fly while still letting line out with only 60 feet out – landed a 2 year old chinook) From here we took a 3yr old chinook next in 90fow at sunrise 6.30am (high dipsey blue/green spindoctor with 140foot of line out) Then we missed a couple big hits on the downrigger (55 down moonshine mag flounder pounder got smoked twice but just didn’t stay hooked) Last we got another big chinook in 98fow at around 8am (deep dipsey with 100ft out green frog spindoctor and white fly) The east wind was howling and most guys left the shallower water so quickly… for us sticking around and little more in tight really worked out. This north wind brought the temp break up higher which was great to see. Was going to keep the boat on anchor overnight here in west olive like we have commonly done so we could fish again Sunday morning but the weather changed and the north wind started whipping so we changed our plans…
  3. nice job! huge Chinook!
  4. my son was given the shirt when he won the kollen park catfish tourney this summer 1st place got him 670 in cash + the cool tshirt... if you are serious and want a shirt, then ask the nice guys at Powderhorn bait shop on River Ave
  5. 41 inches 29.5 pounds This ones going on the wall -- way to go kids!!! I almost filleted it but my son was smart enough to grab a tape and scale... apparently all the FL shark fishing has made me desensitized to trophies Congrats to my daughter and her Master Angler Chinook! 29 pounder on September 29
  6. decided to run out of Mac and down to Saugatuck to run the mud one last time... while setting lines in the sideways pouring rain hard east wind had a high line orange board get buried in 26fow off saug north pier... big ole male my daughter hauled in... last one of the year for us... actually probably our biggest too, for sure our longest... will weigh it back at the dock in Holland
  7. 4.5 colors out frog spin doctor of all things 22 fow off saug south pierhead - what a beast - what a fight - we were due for this! also caught this Pike while trolling out front in the kzoo wash out - 8ft down on rigger green ladder jplug got em
  8. everything we have gotten so far this fall has been either riggers 8ft down with a size4 jplug 50-120ft back OR smaller size dipsey ringless dialed to 3.5 with a size4 jplug on it running anywhere from 28-40ft of line out we fish the saug channel mainly but also holland channel and pierheads... we always fish 25fow or shallower good luck off muskegon!
  9. Boy what you described on the plantings sounds too good to be true! Thanks for the info. We will pull that up on the iNET tomorrow. When we were coming back into Holland midday today we got a jack in the channel as well so who knows.
  10. slow and challenging... lost 2 pigs in saug channel this AM - managed to get this one... everything we hook up last few trips is Male... no eggs... the only "bite spot" in all saug this morn (and trust me we tried everything) was midway thru channel by rock walls... had to have speed so slow was in neutral basically being pushed out by east wind
  11. speaking of the devil... we did go again tonight (9-8) and worked the Saugutuck channel and pierheads... took THE CAT along this time of all things hoping it would serve as a "luck charm" - managed to get 7 sheephead and 2 salmon... good times!
  12. Ha - nice Kevin... hands down you are the founding father of fall fishing --- my kids still talk about the guy in the blue 4winns who completely crushed em every time and was actually nice to us and gave us advice (remember back then it was the kids and I trying to learn out on the duck boat in Holland channel?) - Anyways, yes fall fishing completely stinks compared to what it used to be and we now have to fish long hard hours often times to even get a couple but it is still kinda fun. Someone has to try to catch the 200-300 total salmon that run in Ottawa county these days... can't leave em to run up the streams and die and be feasted on by the coons! Good reminder and trip down memory lane on those 2018 videos... here are a couple from the treasure chest- the dipsey double off Saug where I dropped my phone and the 23.5er that my son caught in front of Tiara deep inside Mac (this was in that one 18hr period where there was actually fish to be caught) - what isn't in the video is that we fished for 14.5hrs without a bite in sub-55 degree pier water leading up to these... double off saug.mp4 monster catch 23.5 pound king caught by William!.mp4
  13. managed 2 kings this AM in the mud off holland/saugatuck (tried both) - fishing was slow as the lake hadn't turned over - still was glad to have scored a couple - i realize this is the time of year where everyone almost goes hush hush on the run - anyone else have a report?
  14. moonshine happy meal magnum hologram spoon was best - else blue and green spindoctor blue fly (green jeans)
  15. nice job! you landed a the monster we were holding out for... let's see a pic of this 26#er. I am gonna try again either tonight or tomorrow night. Want a big mature one, not that the 15pound 3year olds aren't fun what a different kinda year!
  16. my son and I went 6 for 8 in the ripping offshore east wind out of Holland - setup in 80 fow at 7am and trolled out to 140 fow catching only a laker - over 50 other boats and looked like most guys went and stayed out deep just to get blown out deeper - we trolled east and back into 85 fow and fished that on a N and NW troll instead though and had 5 other hook ups. Few hours later when pulling lines we put the east wind behind us and slide out to 125-130 where we had a couple more go off. Heartbreaking was the beast of a king we lost on copper 300 in 125fow after about a 20min fight. Ended up with 4 salmon and 2 lake trout. 5color took one. Dipsey spin doctor went twice. Copper 300 went twicw. Riggers down 70-80 also took fish.
  17. Thanks - we did not run a probe so not sure on a temp break - had very low expectations going into trip so just hit em with a wide spectrum running 12 rods - but again it seemed that the only bite was in that 60-75 down - we ran: 2 halfs 2 fulls 1 copper 300 hybrid* 1 copper 200 2 high diver braid 225 out 2 low diver braid 120 out **** 2 riggers 80-100 down
  18. 4 for 5 1 big mature king 1 3yr old king 2 lakers all hits came between 7.30am-10.00am in 125-130fow just south of Holland off sliders deep diver 120 out went four times green jeans spindoc fly copper 300 went once, green jeans moonshine hologram they would only bite if we cut the current and waves and trolled SW which was challenging glad we got out this morning... were going to go tonight but oh baby that would've been bouncy!
  19. had decided after last Friday that it was all good enough and time to be done for the year but then my buddy Bill trolled the kzoo mud at sunset last night and landed a 26 pounder so I had to try for a little while again tonight... not much moving around and jumping anymore... water warming a bit... duck weed was terrible.. caught some sheephead and after sunset in the pitch black fog had dipsey just get smoked and run out 300ft of line and fought what I was certain was a Chinook for about 20min only to encounter the largest flathead kitty we had ever seen when it came time for netting!
  20. last night mt buddy pulled a 26lber out of the mud right in front of Saugatuck - after Friday I told myself I need to just be done for the year but man its hard knowing the beasts are still out there! problem too now is I think water is warming along the shore which ought to bring any bite to a grinding halt...
  21. nice work! boy you were a long ways out
  22. after fueling up and dinner in Saugatuck with family took boat back around to holland and just had to try again on way out - was overwhelmed by sheephead bite doubles ans triples misery - ended up with a couple more decent ones though and kids were happy
  23. today they were out a bit further in that 20-25 too..... jumpin all over... today it wasn't all dipseys but instead also orange board high lines 80 back with drop weights smoked em too... best plugs were size 4 and 5 green ladder and scaley green
  24. 4 for 7 off Saugatuck this Friday morning - same program as yesterday except kept a few on - a couple hogs!
