Left the dock at 4.45am in Lake Mac Setting lines in 80fow trolling north at 5.10am and the half-core immediately goes off (moonshine happy meal) – 10# king Over the next hour we could not get lines in hardly Half-core went again and that time a 22# hen Copper 200 with moonshine magnum spoon went 3 times – got em all – approx. 10# kings High dipsey got smoked at with blue & chrome spindoctor and blue fly a 20.5# hen At 6.40am which was still 15min before sunrise we were 6 for 6 and pretty happy about things. The is the best early fishing in the dark bite I have encountered (usually they don’t turn on until about 15min before sunrise?) We fished through sunrise and then a little more. Copper 200 went off two more times – got one and missed one Rigger took one 54 down with dancing anchovy spoon 15color went off moonshine mag spoon – about a 14# coho Ended up 9 for 10 …with a bite like this may have to try again tomorrow morning but this time I will leave the dock at 4.15am :) buddy of mine caught a nice big chinook in 15fow off Saugatuck this AM heard rumblings about them slaughtering them in the mud off GH hard to know what to do exactly with these colder water temps but we are thankful for how it went today

  6. yes - very good report and nice job! I went with a couple guys last night as well on a different boat and we good SKUNKED - fishing can be humbling like that we trolled mainly outside 200fow and lost 6 rips - everything that could've gone wrong did...

  8. nice work! what did that big king come on and how far down?
  9. we also went again tonight with some neighbors - went 7 for 9 - best was 170-185fow - it started slow but at about 7.45pm they turned on - spoons, spindocters, meat, it all went... Copper300 once, high braid dipsey 250 out 3 times, deep braid dipsey 140 out once, rest was riggers about 85 down
  10. we started setting lines at 5.30am and by 5.45am we had a double and shortly after a few more hits... all shut down for us come about 7.00am. The most beautiful sunrise... ended up 5for6 with 4 medium size salmon and a small laker. Everything was between 115-140fow and best depth down was about 55-60 down. No bites on the meat and nothing enormous this time. There was about 2 dozen other boats out there but pretty quiet on radio... anyone find em real good and wanna share info? thanks
  11. thanks - yes this was the first we had seen or heard of the real big matures - my son even works up on Chinook Pier in GH and there honestly haven't been the behemoth kings yet... so let's hope this is just the start! with all the bait this year you'd think it would be prime time for lunkers!
  12. late start... set lines at 8pm and inside about an hour tonight went 3 for 5 two big ones 20# plus.... one tipped scale at 26# 2big chinook smoked meat dipsey about 60 down other beast ate rigger spoon.. all in that 185-150fow rough out there - pulled lines after sunset practically in West Olive DETAILS: #1. 13. 9 for 14 stayed in 126fow on a south troll the entire time fished for about 2hrs until we reached Holland and sun had set Bite was everywhere from 20 down (5color) to 75 down (Copper300) Colorful spoons like doube OC went often Lost just a pig of a chinook on Copper 200 Managed one of the bigger lakers we had seen in a while on copper 300 10color went 3 times for salmon They ate up the dipsey spindoctor flies too Such a calm beautiful night out there
  14. Nice report. We were 10 for 11 out of Holland this morning of 5/29. Setup in 120fow at sunrise and in the first 45min went 10 for 10 trolling WSW so not deeper than 170fow Missed another solod bite a little.later on the north troll Rigger went 6 times 40-50 down Got one on rigger only 9 down while clipping on slider and resetting Other fish came on dipsey live wire spin doctor out 160 (scored twice) 5color connected twice too Bunch of coho and a few 3yr old kings and one nice 4yr old king There were only 2 or e boats off Holland this Sunday morning which suprised us.
  15. had to give it another shot before church this morning! left Holland channel (on Parker this time) about an hour before sunrise in tall seas... fortunately we got out there and setup when we did because it continued to build in the couple hours that followed ---> went 3 for 3 and here is what worked: glow spoon stacker rod 6.45am 30fow off north pier trolling south moonshine green jeans jplug dipsey 7.30am 25fow off spyglass trolling south moonshine happee meal jplug rigger 8.00am 30fow off state park pavilion trolling north the mud was smeared way north this morning and out where it began to mix into the cold was where we found fish... lots of birds eating... seen a Rhode Island sized seagull that we swear was big enough to be eating jack salmon from the looks of it when we trolled into the channel the walleye had slowed down for the fisherman in there and we had no salmon takers either as we passed through we will see how long this bite sticks around... the big male Chinook of the morning was another 2017 plant from what port we can only wonder?
  16. Despite the rain starting out and the howling northern gale winds and waves we decided to venture out and try fishing Holland Harbor again today. Seeing as the temps dropped 27 degrees in 24hrs we just couldn’t resist. We didn’t slaughter them by any means but we sure had fun! Went 3 for 7 on Salmon and also caught a few sheephead and kitties. Most kings came on smaller chrome red head size 3 j-plugs but we had a few on other plugs and even a flasher. Riggers and dipseys mainly. Lost a screamer on a board too. Two of the king hookups were inside of Mac and the other 5 were down the channel a ways. Highlight was we caught the longest Chinook we have ever boated at 42 inches. It was a plant and just a beast to fight! Now he is in the freezer and gonna go on the wall. Anyways, we may try again tomorrow morning as it looks like the southern winds are coming and that just might be it for the cold water. Exhausting fishing though… the 7 to 10 foot waves were just crashing over the pier all around us. Turning in the arms and netting fish was something else. Thankful to have gotten a piece of them though before they move up river! What a challenging and disappointing run year 2021 has been, mainly because of the warm weather. PS => seen more monster walleye caught off the north channel wall the last two days than I can ever remember
  17. tried Holland Channel tonight for anwhile on the 18' tiller... weeds/current/wind were horrendous but we still had fun... nothing like fishing in a northern gale! we had no bites unfortunately - thanks for your report and let us know if you get anymore.
  18. great seeing you out there! way to fight the current and waves - you earned that mature you got at dusk!
  19. swing and a miss for us... tried it for about 2hrs last night in 4-5ft waves out of the north and no releases... weeds were not a problem but still no bite.. today checked three tubes by todd farm in fennville and no fish had arrived there yet so it makes you wonder... about 15 guys were fishing at allegan dam and looked to all be coho but not certain
  20. anyone driven to Allegan dam or "the tubes" at Todd Farm to see how many beasts have slipped through? Going to Fennville to inspect a property tomorrow and may have to check
  21. not us... we have had better luck leaving the 115 pound choc lab home and bringing....wait for it........ THE CAT!
  22. nope... all we've caught are hens so far... last year we caught em out front all the way through September. Last king caught was an anorexic 29.5pound male on a high line jplug in 15fow out front on September 30. Got it mounted - the thing was 41.75 inches and had probably weighed 37-38 pounds pre spawn out is our best guess... kids and i have this theory that a group of em never run to the dam but actually spawn out on the boulder walls midway down the channel - who knows if we are right - here is a pic of this 2019 finale fish
  23. misery loves company we went 0 for 2 out front this morning conditions were perfect but no good pod of fish to target
  24. kevin, are you trolling saug or holland tonite? good luck and let us know how you end up! I have to go to Indiana all weekend so it is up to you
  25. nice Kevin - everything we got last night were hens... good sign as the big males have yet to show! And as far as trolling speed we usually run plugs on the upper end of the spectrum 2.8-3.0. Seems like most guys might be trolling too slow, but who knows...
