Hello The Raymarine 6001 does'nt control the steering, it just disengage the steering an give oil pressure directly to your cylinder controling your I/O. If you had this type of P/S, you need to transfer to an Hydraulic steering like an Seastar. Not because the autopilot does'nt work, it's just because when you get used to it, you want to add gadget, as I did. And as I add an Raymarine S100 remote control, I was surprised to see that all the feature of the S100 were not supported by the 6001. As it is an pretty expensive expense, I need to stay with it, and if I was better concelled I had probably buyed a couple hundred more expensive item to get all those fishing feature. Be sure to get advise from an authorised distributor of Raymarine to get all the infos before buying as you will get stuck for a long period with it. Remember to tell him that it is for a fishing boat, to get all the fishing patern included in some pilot, but not on the 6001. my 2c Marijo

I have two reel with 20 # 7 strand silver color, I used it with my slider diver for the past 2 year and i'm verry satisfied. Only negative point is: when you had newbies with you, this kind of wire need to be reeled verry tigh, and if not, you will get proble, m for sure, when you will have a touch. Me I used wire by miself and I get more touch with it, but with newbies, I use braided power pro, even if I had'nt the same signature and some day's less touch, I prefer that way. Remember to always reel it tigh, and use at less an twillie tip on your rod. This year if I find it, I will try the brown color in 20#. (Until now I never seen an brown spool on shop, so can't buy it. The first one I see, i'll grab it for sure.) Can't say difference between the two, as I always used one or the other on my boat or on friend boat, so can't know if one is better than the other. But for now I think they are about equivalent. Just try it, and it will convince you. Me I use this set up mainly for King in the period of strip hearing with flasher, ( august or early september ) and normally close to the bottom. I prefer slide diver (middle size, no color), lot more alternative with it, I use a rod of 9.5' for dipsydiver with my automatic big jon rod retriever, to try to get the fish on the side of the boat. I don't want the fish in the middle, because it will reserve bad surprise , I use 40# line with good + tension on it. Easy to stack( to be in the same path and depth of your ball attached lures), you can do a large spread, at the same depth, at the same spead. (Your fishfinder will give you the depth, your SVR need to be around the same depth of the king, so the rest of the lures will be aroud 6-8 feet higher) Put an Svr(2 colors) in the middle inside rigger, so if front does'nt work your plug will do the job in the center back( this line will reserve you some big surprise, but not on regular basis, so it's the firts one to remove if you got an limit for rod in the water, and if you want more fish than the big one). As you got the same spread each side, you are very large. Early in the season, you don't really need this kind of set up as it is more easy to take fish. So for me, this set up have it's day's (slow speed day's - 1.9@2.4 MPH) and I like it, but I fish L.O. , so try it, may be it will give you success, if not return to your old value in Lake Michigan. my 2 ct Marijo
