  1. Thats funny because I talked to a guy in Saugatuck who had to troll 3.5 at the ball Friday night to get bites and went 9-13. Saturday I heard through the grapevine was similar...needed faster trolling speed. Thats why its crazy.
  2. Great night with the kid!
  3. 2-4 tonight. 10lb laker on big white paddle on bottom in 120. Steelhead on dipsey out 180 green flasher and fly. That same rig was hammered before that as my buddy released the spool to let line out it took off. Bot a good hook set ans lost it.
  4. Will be out there Saturday morning. Thanks for the info
  5. So then Rascal Trophy Fishing.... do you use a double release attached to your main line to keep the slider in that 10-15' range above your main spoon? Swivel it to the main line, one release hold it in place and the other holds the slider? I think I might try that tonight.
  6. True...those young bucks can handle it. My rookie was a college student and I just smiled as he fought that best for 12-15 minutes...1/2 laughing at how much his arm hurt the next day.
  7. your crew is much better looking than the ugly mugs I take out. Way to get them hooked!!
  8. The hand on the bottom of that fish doesn't even go around the belly. Blow up the picture if you're looking at your smart phone and you'll realize the girth. That is huge!!!!
  9. Putting rookies on a 300' copper is so mean....I did it twice last year. Best part is when they switch hands half way through because their arm is tired :-) Nice report!
  10. Thanks guys! Just braid dipseys for me right now. Wire some day.
  11. I have seen pike thrash and put a hook in the finger. I don't even grab at salmon with out pliers anymore. Hope that thumb doesn't keep you off the water! Nice job on the fish though!!
  12. I have a 17'sylvan fishing boat with 2 rod holders ahead of the windshield (one each side) and 2 holders in back. Do I run my high dipseys in the front with no ring on setting3 and in the back run rings on setting1 or 2?
  13. Thanks guys! I wasn't blaming the braid yet but was wondering if anyone else has the same problem or if it was just a slow year on divers and flasher/fly. I will try the 10' lead from the diver with a magnum spoon. I just read a report from Wednesday that had a pig on the diver with a magnum spoon so I'm thinking of trying it now. Didn't know how much of a lead to use but now I do so thanks for that first reply Dave! My leads from my divers to flasher is probably 6-8 feet as it is and I try and keep my fly ~2.5x the length of the flasher back.
  14. Awesome night with fish or not...pizza and a wife that likes to fish on the boat!! NIce!
  15. How do you set up your spoons on divers? I haven't talked to many guys who do spoons on divers and I'm having a hard time gathering info on the subject.
  16. Blue splatterback plug in size 4 (May of this year it was big white paddle with white fly)
  17. I switched my dipseys from 30lb mono to 40lb Power pro braid. Now it seems I rarely get a hit on dipseys. Is it just the year thats tough in 2013? Only have 1 fish out of the lame 7 total I've caought so far that has hit a dipsey set up. Anyone else see a difference or even running wire for that matter?
  18. WE coulnd't get any action on dipseys for some reason. Set them anywhere from 80-175 with different set ups and no takers. For some reason sometimes copper is the trick. Just like setting your spoons 8 feet off the ball or 30 feet off the ball on a rigger...just depends on their mood.
  19. Thanks BK! Left coppers home this trip. Will be taking them next time
  20. Slow report is better than no report right??? We started in the 50's and had marks no takers. Went to 70's and the fish just light up the screen more than I care to talk about. Tried every direction at all speeds and managed 1 king on a large silver/green paddle with a last brunch fly down 50. Couldn't believe we couldn't snag one with how many were showing on the graph. At the launch I talked to 2 boats that did better out in 150-160's. got my 4 year old on his first fish so now each kid had their first. They are hooked....now if I can only find some steady catching action instead of just fishing.
  21. Agreed with paulywood. Good water later last week was 55.
  22. I second that recommendation. Thursday marked alot in 55fow but no takers until trolling north. I wish I would have did a u turn sooner. If you start marking fish troll them both north and south before you leave them.
  23. Mark -about you were who I was chatting with on 68 last night. Finally got a fish in 55. Marked a ton but just wouldn't take my offering.
  24. Started SW in 30. Marked great fish in 50-60 steadily down 30-35' no takers. Looped to 90 and went back to the 50's range. Finally picked up a nice skam in 52 just north of Holland on a 3 color Yeck blues gator. Put the same spoon on a rigger at 15' down and had a release as I was pulling lines but nobody home. My 6 year old son got to reel in his first lake Michigan fish with a little help and it was awesome to watch the excitement! Where do I post pictures here?
  25. What lines were you running? Lead, dipsey?
