Nice going Mike.

Saw him this morning about 10:15. He was standing in my neighbor's hay feild. He was headed back toward where I saw him last night. He is a 7 point, not a six like I first thought with about a 16 inch spread and good mass. By the look of his body size I am guessing 2 1/2 year old. Rich This is on some property I own over here by Springport. I will be hunting next to you tomorrow after noon if the weather cooperates. I use to see some real nice bucks on this land untill I let a guy put it to hay instead of cash crops like corn and beans. After 10 years of it being hay you were lucky to see a deer there. Last year I told him I wanted it corn or I would get some one else to plant it. Well he even left it unpicked untill the end of December and it made a big difference on the deer sightings. This year is the first time in a long time I have found scrapes and rubs on the property, things are looking up.

I don't know for sure. He look to have about a 16 inch spread but not sure if he is a big six or if the other beam had more points than the one I got a good look at. The main beam I got a good look at had just 1 6 inch tine about mid beam and brow tine but I didn't get a good look at the other side because he was uphill from me. I plan to give him a few days to settle down before I hunt that spot again and before I do I will have a ladder stand or climber so I can get off the ground.

Have not seen a buck all season and when I did I screwed up. I found several rubs last week along the power line clearing through the woods I hunt. Found a ground scrape late last week and decided I better stay out of the area untill I got a ladder stand up or bought a climber. Well tonight I just couldn't help my self, figured where he would enter the woods and got down wind and sat down. Trouble was after an hour and a half the wind and rain was beating me to death so I decided to cross the power line clearing and get in the neighbor's ladder stand. Big mistake. it was only 5:50 when I stood up and snuck out into the power lines and he was already there headed my way. Had I stayed put he would have come in on the trail about 20 yards up wind of me. When I saw him he was only about 25 yards away from me but heading out real fast. Didn't risk the shot. Had I gotten in the stand in the first place he was only about 20 yards from it when I saw him, would have been a gimme from the stand. I will leave him alone for a week and hope he comes back. Walking out tonight I found he has a new scrape line right down my center fence row with 4 new scrapes that were not there 5 days ago. The joys of hunting.

Couldn't vote. I am not a brown it's down type. I prefer not to shot any fawns be it button bucks or doe. Any mature doe or buck will do.

Yup, it's a low yeild year on the acorns. I have 1 tree that the deer normally tear up the gound underneath it eating them and this year nothing. Checked a couple other trees on my property and it's the same story. Glad I have a couple small corn feilds to feed them and keep them around.

Well Rich I just went a picked up an Over the Counter Left Over Turkey licence.Maybe I can stick an arrow in one of the birds you saw.

Well I couldn't make it out in the am but went in the afternoon. Left home about 2:30 for the hour drive to my dad's place. On the way I saw 3 differnt deer already feeding, figured I was in trouble. Got to dad's and chated with him for a few and headed out. Spooked 2 does in the neighbors bean feild on the way out. Some $%%$ had taken down my ladder stand that I had there since last year. Didn't steal it, just layed it on the ground. Well the rachet strap was gone so I decided to just sit on the ground in a spot I have sat at several times just down from the ladder stand. I am getting set up, making sure no branches or brush in the way and I notice a branch that is tied back out of the way. Further checking and there is my rachet strap, they used it to tie the branches back. Not only did they take down my stand but set in my ground spot as well. Well I set down with my back to the fence and about 6:00 I had 3 turkeys come out in front of me. They worked their way out in the beans about 40 yards and one of them started clucking. Next thing I know there are a dozen of them right in front of me about 20 yards feeding. Well the feed off to the right and went through the fence row onto the neighbors. That was it for the night. Great to be out in the woods again.

Happy Birthday Matt. Did you get the pics I sent you from the Manistee outing?

Happy Birthday Rich. Hope you have a great day.

Mike A survey would be your best bet. I am suprized they left that beat up prop on their for you to see. Did they say how it happened? I would make me nervous what they hit and what other damage was done. With a survey you would have a better idea if they damaged any stringers or other structural members that are going to cost you big time in the near future to fix. Good luck.

Rich Did you see any sign of the yotes like you did this spring? My bet is if the mother isn't around that fawn don't stand a chance. I hope to make it over there mid week and hunt some and check things out. Bought a new ladder stand so I can get up off the ground, only trouble is I have to take it down every day when I am done. My uncle is a little strange about stuff like that but it's his property so I have to follow his rules.

Mike Try this link, it might help you figure out what broke. http://www.sterndrive.info/sterndriveparts/i_need_help_page.html
-
I think they are splined together, if so you tore the spines out would be my guess. If by chance they are just keyed you may have just sheered the key which would be cheaper. This is the same drive that had the beat up prop right? I know when I took the splines out of my stinger outdrive it broke at half throtle and rummbled a lot. I had no forward or reverse but could idle in gear without much noise.

Try this http://www.mercstuff.com/images/shiftcable.jpg

Mike What type of drives dose it have. Did it make any noise when you put it into gear? Is it electrical shift or manual. If it's electrical maybe a bad shift solinoide.

Hopfully the mother is still around. Then again with all the yotes Rich has seen out there she must have mommy or someone protecting her. Is there much sign around there Rich? I haven't been there yet this year to look around.
-
Rich Just throw it over the fence to the west. I hear those guys are not ever around, just make sure you let me know where you piled it. To make it easyer make sure you dump it abot 25 yards from that old hunting shack at the NE corner of the feild behind the woods that way you won't be in trouble and I can keep an eye on for ya and make sure no one steals it.

Mike Is that out of one of the service panels or the meter box? If it's out of the service panel do I need 2, 1 to the stake and 1 to the water pipe? and what happens when you have all plastic water lines?
-
Thanks Mike. Any idea what diameter a 4/0 aluminum wire is, the bought some they had labled overhead service but I think it is to small.
-
Must be seeing his reflection and wants to fight. Get a turkey damage permit.

GLF I will have 1 mast coming into a double meter socket. There is a bus bar inside the meter box to feed both meters. There will be a lead coming out of each meter, 1 going to the upstairs apartment and the other going to the lower apartment. They will both have new 100 amp service panels. My question is how big do I need to make the service wire running down the mast to supply 2 seperate 100 amp sevices.
