Haven't used a side hammer in about 8 years. Got tired of the miss fires due to condensation bringing the gun into the warm house. Bought an inline a few years ago and haven't had a problem since.Lot easyer to clean too.

People are unreal. We had a litter of Basset Hound puppies in September. We are selling them for $325.00 each. Last week I was out side when one of the local drunken welfare rats wanted to know how much for a pup. At this point we only have 3 males left and I told him the price knowing he has no money and I would not sell him one even if he did. He asked if I would take payments, NO I will not. Well last night the wife and I were in the store(we live right beside it) talking with the owner when the welfare rats come in and buy a bag of puppy chow and some can food. She walks out and he crowds right upto me so I can not see out the door. His wife came over to our house, entered the dog pen and entered our house and took a pup right out of the dog crate they were in. He must have seen her so he left, returned a couple minutes later to make sure we didn't see anything and left. About a half hour later my wife came home to let them outside and found one of the pups missing and the gate to the pen wide open. I called 911 and we waited over an hour for the officer to show up, in the mean time I found out where they lived. THe officer went to their house and sure enough their was our pup. They lied there butts off about how they got the pup and he finally put the guy and pup in the car and brought them over so I could ID the pup. I just hope they hit them with Larceny charges like he said is was going to. Make sure you keep and I on your dogs, never know what low life will come by and steal them.

If you have it between Christmas and New Years I think I could donate to the kitty, never played before but it sounds like fun.

How did everyone do during firearm deer season?
huntingfool43 replied to Heavy Action's topic in Deer Hunting
DAng Rich When I heard you on the radio I figured you gave yourself a half moon above the eye, that looks a lot worse. OOOUCHHHHH. Not to mention I think you scared all the deer away, still haven't gotten anything with the gun or muzzle loader. -
Hunting Liecence for 2007(Is it going to happen?)
huntingfool43 replied to caznik's topic in Deer Hunting
It's just plain stupid. I was reading elsewhere that the increase will not create more money for the DNR, they will just get less from the general fund. Sounds like to me someone has their head stuck some where. If it goes through you can bet on a lot mor poching going on, people won't pay it. Some one with a couple kids and a wife that hunts and fishes would go broke. -
It's dried up velvet. Most of the pictures I have seen of does with antlers they do not rub them like a buck. The velvet on the spike side must have dried up and came off on it's own. When they called me and asked me about it being a doe with antlers the first thing I asked her was if the antlers were polished or still in velvet. They are going to get a shoulder mount done, it was her first antlered deer. They were not even sure how to tag it.

Here's a couple pics, first one is the luck young lady that harvested it and the second is a better look at the rack.

My brother dropped my gun on the ground opening afternoon. I didn't think he hit the scope but after this morning it looks like another trip to the shooting range to figure out where it is shooting. She was a big girl too, stood broad side at 80 yards and I as far as I can tell I never even came close. There was another one with her and after I shoot they just troted up the hill and stopped and looked around then wandered off to the east. I wanted to wrap that muzzle loader around a tree.

My brother and I were out hunting this morning when his wife called him. Her grand daughter had taken an antlered doe. They wanted to know how rare it was and how to tag it.. I told them there is at least 1 taken every year. The spike on one side had no velvet but the two point side still had some. A freak of nature. Hope to have some pics tomorrow.

Nice going Rich. I about fell down laughing when I heard you on the radio. Your daughter keeps asking how big it was and all you could say was I have to get down, I am bleeding. Knew what happened before I talked to you, your'e not the first one to get bit by their scope. Glad everything worked out alright. I don't think I saw either of those bucks during bow season.

Nice going Mike. Neat looking rack.

Well I sat out all day. I knew the day was not going to be good when I rolled out of bed at 4:00 am and stepped in puppy poo. Didn't feel real good but wasn't going to miss opening day. Got to the spot I wanted and went to put up my pop up blind. I just knew I was forgetting something this morning, it was the sticks that hold the roof up in the blind. Oh well sitting in the chair the roof didn't hit me in the head so I used it the way it was. Saw nothing at all in the swamp. Finally about 9:30 I walked out to see if my brother had seen anything. When I got to his blind 4 does came across the feild out of range. After we split I went to the blind behind the woods. Had 6 does come running by, gun was lening in the corner. Sat there a while then moved to the fork in the road, 2 different groups of does went by. I got busted tring to take aim on them. Decided to walk to the truck and grab a snack, spooked 3 more deer on the way out. Went back to the fork, sat there untill 2:30 without seeing a thing.Started getting cold and went for a walk but it was to late, arms and neck started to hurt so I packed it in about 3:30. My brother was holding my muzzel loader for me, he dropped it so know I have to shoot it to make sure the scope is still on. Even with all the trouble it was a great day in the outdoors. PS Come on Caz lets here your story, the whole story

Met up with my brother this afternoon to hang a few more signs and decide where to sit Wednsday morning. It's going to be a tuffy, open feild, swamp, or the pines on the side hill. It is calling for rain so the ladder stand is out, have to use my Dog House blind or 1 of the 3 box blinds out there. Don't want to get to close to the east corner of the feild though or Caz might shoot me. Sat in the swamp last year and never saw a thing. Watched several deer cross the open feild in front, they would run right to the pines then turn and go where ever. Put my pop up blind there the 3rd day and they stayed way out in the feild. Guess it will be Enee menee minii mo come Wednsday.

Nice going Rich. I still haven't filled my tag yet. Looks like a helping of tag soup for me this time around.

Thanks fellas, that one was a confidence builder. I was not impressd when I had to give up my compound do to neck problems back in 98. Finally broke down in 01 and got a permit to use a crossbow and it took me untill 04 to break down and use it. I blew an easy shot that first season with it do to operator error and never really had much faith in it. About the 2nd week of October this year I tried to harvest a turkey with it and lost the bird, Strike 2 aginst it. I changed the style of broad head I was using and practiced to make sure everything was right on and last night was the icing on the cake. Now I hope I won't be as leary about pulling the triggr on the next 1. I have turned down a few chances just from fear of loosing them. Things are looking up and tomorrow moning I will be back in the same stand and hopefully see a decent buck to harvest. PS: Make sure when you are done with the gutting job you clean off your knife and put it in your pocket. It saves a long walk the next morning to retrive it.

Well guess I will pass this am, down right nasty out there. I did wack a doe last night. It's the first deer I have taken with a crossbow since being forced to use one 3 years ago. I wasn't real impressed with the penitration I got. I use an XX75 2219 shaft tipped with a 100 grain Spitfire expandable. Hit her high, punched a hole through top of shoulder plate angled forward and down. The arrow didn't break through the skin in the arm pit on the oppisite side. There was some blood from the lungs between the meat and skin but the broad head never cut a hole through the hide. Still had a good blood trail untill the arrow fell out then it got a little spotty until nothing. Sat the lantern at the last spot of blood and made a small circle around to the edge of the power line where I last saw her and as I was turning back toward the lantern I found her, she had leaped over a bunch of briaers and was laying on the back side of them. The wife and I had fresh tenderloin for supper last night. They weren't even done quivering before the wife took them out all by her self and in the house they went. Guess I should have never showed her how easy they are to get out and how good they taste, have to gaurd them on every deer I bring home.

Caz I thinks you are telling stories again. I want to meet these 2 females. GLF The 8 point yesterday morning was a dandy, gyessing 16 to 18 inches of spread. The bigger 1 this morning I am sure is the same heavy horned 7 point with about a 16 inch spread. The other 2 bucks I have seen were both six points. The doc just gave me a clean slate, he figures it was a bad allergic reaction to what ever was in the smoke from the guy burning leafs.
-
Well so far everything is great. Been out in the woods a couple times since and have had no trouble. Even after screwing up on 2 different bucks there was no breathing problems. Just have to remember to take it a easy and not work up a sweat. Go to the doctor in a couple hours to see what he has to say, I fell great. Now if I could just get the deer to cooperate. Between this morning and yesterday morning I have seen 4 different bucks and 14 does and not a single arrow has flown.

Well last Sunday the walk back to the woods was a little slower because I was having a little trouble breathing. We got set up and after dark I climbed down but wasn't sure where my buddy John was. I walked to the corner of the woods and had to stand there to try and catch my breath. After a few minutes I started toward the truck, a long uphill walk. I ended up on my knees 3 times before I saw John headed my way looking for me. Finally made it to the truck and back home. I have never thought anything about hunting alone but that scared the hell out of me. I figured if I passed out in the middle of that wheat stubble I would be there a while. My wife's an RN and wanted me to go to the ER that night.Went to Fast Track Monday night because I still didn't feel right. My O2 level was down to 85, they transfered me right over to main ER. The doctors figured smoke from the leaves being burnt down the street Sunday before I went out caused a bronccuel aysmatic (sp) attack. Make sure some one knows where you are and when you plan on returning. I knew John would come looking for me or I would have called the wife to come find me. Thanks to the guy burning leaves I now have to use an inhaler and take a bunch of pills for a while.

Rich Explain to them that if we loose this they can count on them going after their crow season in the future and why should we support them if they are not willing to support us. This Dove bill is intended to pit hunter aginst hunter and it's doing a good job. Sad thing is all the "sportsman" that claim they won't support it will be cring like babies when they go after a season they really enjoy and they can't get the support they need to save it, this is exactly what the antis are hoping for.
-
BIG YES here. It's a lot more than just a dove season at stake. We already fought and won a dove season and these wackos are tring to stop it. Why, because they know it is a very controvesial subject and stand a good chance of having the season stopped forever. Once they get their foot in the door hang on, they will be back after every seasopn we have. I have convinced a few that said they would not support it to just not vote on it. That is better than another no vote aginst us. What really bothers me are the number of so called sportsman that refuse to vote for it, they are shooting them self in the foot. As far as them being to small, they have as much meat as a quail or woodcock and we have had a season on both these birds for a long time. The next time someone tells you they are voting NO ask them why they would support the same wackos that throw blood people who wear real fur because that is who is behind this. This is a lot more than just a dove season folks.

Were you out in the woods last night (Oct 31). There were deer running everywhere. Didn't see any antlers but then several crossed to far out in the swamp to tell what they were. Almost tripped the trigger on a doe but her sidekick caught me tring to take aim and before she settled down another deer ran through the swamp and spooked them both. great night in the woods.

i have heard of a horse becoming foundered but a deer? If a horse gets to much of the wrong food a bone in their foot flips and there feet grow like that but I didn't think a deer would have the same trouble, they can get all the corn and other foods they want.
