  1. Lead core is pretty inexpensive. You will need a decent size reel as you will have leader, core and backer. The temp break if it sets up well will be very noticeable. Look for the 5 degree or more jump. Do yourself one favor though, catch em don't snag em! The DNR frowns on the snagging. Welcome to the site.
  2. They didn't seem to be staying on the hooks any better today
  3. Typically run them both at the same time, so that Makes it tough to run em at different speed. But typically spoons faster if you can
  4. Did you wait til Saturday to go back over? I thought I saw you pointed east on m6 this afternoon.
  5. We, Charger and 69Camaro, went out in the late afternoon, Started in about 70 FOW. Set up included Downriggers W/stacks, Dipsy Divers, 150' and 225' coppers off of boards. We took hits on Carmel Dolphin on the 150' and the Rigger, Mixed Veggies on the 225' and wonderbread on the dipsy, the dipsy was the only one we did not land. Best action was around the scum line near 200 FOW 2.8-3.0 at the ball. Beautiful night to be out. Two kings 6-8 pounds. The first king was 18.56lbs!!
  6. Joe, Definitely read the posts before heading out, people here are great at giving reports quickly. We started last year too. If it had not been for the great people on this site we would have been lost. Met some great people and every one is more than willing to help. Last year was not the easiest, fish were there one day and gone the next, very frustrating. But you can definitely get yourself in the right area following what the members here say. Welcome to the site.
  7. Fished Grand Haven a lot last year. Here is what I can say. Surface speed and speed at the ball were completely different. So there is really no true answer to that question. There were times they were 2+MPH different. The currents were terrible and they seemed to change directions quite often. If you do not have a fish hawk or one of the others that will give you speed at the ball, you were lost, or guessing based on the angle of the downrigger cable, which I am not good at. watch the speed of the charter boats and try to go about the same while heading in that direction. I know I did not answer your questions, but I am not sure there is a right one.
  8. Very nice! You will love how she fishes too. Pulling it too far with the half ton may prove interesting though!
  9. I have an 18' mod v that we use for other things, you would not catch me out on lake Michigan in it. Way too many things out side of your control and the norm happen out there. 2 footers would be rough, but then you get the 3+ that comes out of no where. The 45' boat goes by throwing a 4' wake. My suggestion is don't do it.
  10. It looks better right side up.
  11. I love the fishing and this site, but at times it is good to see and talk about other things as well. I think it brings members of the site closer together when you share other interests. Some nice cars, even the ford. And no, lets not talk about the Lions odds, they will disappoint you no matter how low your expectations are.
  12. GMFISHON is a dick

  13. I am not at all impressed with the Optima batteries. I would not recommend them. 2 batteries should be fine. LED lights do not pull much power, downrigger use is minimal.
  14. My brother and I Ordered LED lights and picked up a couple of batteries and a switch, spent some time yesterday mounting and wiring them all up. Came home last night flipped the switch and it was great! Bright lights and no roaring generator. Bowfishing will actually be enjoyable!
  15. Okay, question, 37' boat, what size drift sock/sea anchor should we be looking at? We talked about getting them last year and never did.
  16. This rain and the freeze that is supposed to happen tonite is not going to do the deer any good. There is going to be quite a crust on top of plenty of snow yet.
  17. The currents were so strong last year, the same throttle speed, different direction was making a huge difference. Knowing the direction of the current and your speed at the lure was huge. We woulda had lures hanging at times without it!
  18. We ran a lot of it last year. There were days they would not touch anything other than the meat. Low riggers almost every set.
  19. JD Welcome, it is a great site with a bunch of great guys. Enjoy.
  20. This past year the currents in the Grand Haven area were terrible and inconsistent. there would be times SOG was good and the lures were hanging. Turn the other way and you could not go slow enough. We used a lot of greens in june, seemed to work out. flasher flies seemed to be the best. If it is not working, switch it up. We had some weird stuff catch fish.
  21. This was our first year back into fishing on Lake Michigan in 20+ years. Very Thankful for all of the information that we got from this site and the members. My Niece got her first Steelhead, My wife her first Salmon, my Dad with the biggest of the year.
  22. Merry Christmas to all!!
