  1. Thank you Jenny ann for the reply. This summer I was able to drill a hole in the cap of my present probe and put a shroder valve in it. With 18# of preasure I am water tite to 375' and increasing my gain I can get speed and temp down to 350'
  2. I have been running cut bait for three years now and this will be the forth year. I have found that refrezzing the bait will soften the strips up. I mix a brine of salt and borax solution and put the strips back in the brine in the refigerator. Treat them just like pickles and they will keep all summer. The brine solution also firms up the strips, this keeps the strips firmer so the fish can not rip them off the bait head. The main problem has been the fish swallow the hook so far that the leader gets a nick in it from the teeth of the fish so watch your leaders. I have gone to 90# mono and plastic coated wire leaders and this has helped from loosing a fish during the prime time of fishing when you just want to get it back into the water. I have also made some leaders out of Cortlands Toothy critter material and have not had these in the water yet but am very confident that this will also be an answer for longer use of the leaders. It is my problem that I do not check the leaders for I get excited to much and fail to do this.
  3. Plans are not needed - Take an old tackle box and gut out the inside. Fasten a black light to the inside of the cover. Use the type of 12 volt black light that has plug adapter for auto or boat and charge on the way to boat ramp in car or on boat during way out. But if you are really want a good charge on your baits use a uv light, although they are dangerous to your eyes they do a better job. I have one that is in a mini mag-lite and holster it right on my belt. Although a little pricy it is almost indistructable. I got tired of the cheep plastic black lights.
  4. Yes you are absolutly right if the cannon probe is sent in and it leaks it will be determined to leak from mis use. Droping the probe or lowering the probe below 250' . The people who I have talked with that own the cannon probe tell me that its signal fades after 125 FOW with or with out the coated cable. This is just my opinion and due to the fact thatr Cannon just sold their company who knows what would happen.

    Gas

I have to bite my tounge but I must say we are still better off then we were in the early 1970s when you had to wait at gas stations for over an houir to get your 5 gallon limit. I worked on the road and we had to start putting fuel in our vehicle on Wenseday morning, Wenesday night, Thurseday morning and night and Friday morning just to get us from upper Michigan back to Wisconsin and home for the week end. I do not like it either but at least we have fuel to put into our boats. How many of you remember those days and how it impacted your life style. I know I can not be the only old dog out here.
  6. I have gone from 8# to 10# to 12# and am sticking to 12# round balls with fins on them untill I fish below 280' of wire out on my riggers then I change to 16# round balls with fins on them.
  7. Thank You will chec out the fish dog store
  8. Who has a fair price on one of these units
  9. I have Scotty down riggers and I need the 400 feet for we have been catching salmon during mid day with 280' of cable out on Cannons Mag 10s and their cable is larger than the scotty cable.
  10. You also mention that the monitor can be mounted any where in the boat. I need aprox 30 feet of wire from my downrigger to my dash. How much calbe comes with the unit. Some one mentioned that all information is sent to the monitor thru coaxal cable. Is this true?
  11. Thank You for a good reply,How much coated cable comes with the unit?. I have found a place to get 150# test 7 strand coated ss wire rope but the diamete is larger. I am interested in a piece of coated cable for the unit in a length of 400 feet.
  12. I read on a thread of two people using Cannons Temp & Speed. devices. I have used the Fish hawlk for over8 years and I am fairly pleased with the unit but it has some draw backs. After sending it down over 175 feet my transducer is not tipped back far enough to make a reading. And if any water penatrates the unit it is shot. I would like some information that I can not find on any web site yet on the cannons model. It states to read down up to 300 feet one must use coated wire. It makes sence but what is the diameter of this wire and where can it be purchased. How is the information transmitted from the wire to the reciever? Is the unit completly sealed? Completly water tight? I find that there are older models out there that are not compatable with the receivers of today What is the max depth that you had your units working? Is the number of 200 hour on one battery acurrate? What are the faults you have found with the Cannon model? I am an electronics nut
  13. I beleive that the whole lake had a good year because of the lack of bait fish. The adult salmon from this year were 6 to 9 # smaller because of lack of food supply so they bit on anything in the water. I also believe that the bait fish were on a down cycle and that there should be more bait fish this year. I also believe that the salmon migrated north sooner than in the past because they were looking for more food supply. I did witness bait piles of over 50' thick out 15 miles off shore in October, and yes they were ailwife for we had to bring out lines and clean off the bait fish to continue to fish. We did bring in a lot of 15 to 18# fish around these bait piles that I think will be a show of what to expect for this season to be 22 to28# fish. Now I am no expert on any of this but it is something that I can understand.
  14. In my book spearing does not have anything to do with Angling. 20 some years ago the Wisconsin Native Americans began there walley spearing it made me sick to catch a northern with spear holes in it and gunny sacks of walleys laying in the ditchs with rotting speared walleys. Does GLF support Spearing? If it does I will be vacating this board.
  15. I have been know to fish out of Baileys Harbor, Stergeon Bay, Algoma, Kewanee all ports in Wisconsin. I do have one question for now and this will be in regards to the Fish Dog Company. I just found this site tonight and I am wondering how long the moon shine spoons glow when charged with a Black light? I am not much of a spoon feeder but they have their times in early spring and fall. Lately I have not purchased many glow spoons because the ones I have purchased did not glow very long and I seamed to be running the wrong colors at times.
  16. Hi everyone. I have been chasing salmon for around 17 years and joined this site to gain more knowlage in the art of fishing salmon. I am a week end fisherman and enjoy the sport for the relaxing time I can spen on my boat. I have started this sport on a 16' boat then moved to a 19 foot and then to my present 24.5 Crestline Eagle. In 2004 I attended the Chessapeak Marine Training Center in Virginai to take the required course to obtain a 25 ton Captian Licience. The knowlage at this school that I obtain has made me a more knolagable person on the water. I usaually can hold my own on the water as far as salmon fishing goes for last year my log regestered 365 fish of which 44 were steel head 2 lake trout 1 brown trout and the rest salmom. What I enjoy the most is to watch people on my boat catch fish and teach them every thing I know. I am still learning and I am looking forward to reading as much as I can. It will take me a while to figure out around this site but I am sure I will get there.
