  1. Went 1/2, both were laketrout, lost 2nd one, when he spit out the hook just before I could net him (8-10#) best guess. 1st one was 6.54# male. Fished around and north of bubbler. 1/1 on DR with, uv mix veggie, down 32ft, back 70ft, in 36 fow, north troll, 2.3 sog, temp was 36.9 degrees, no fishawk used today. 0/1 on adj 8c, adj for 4c on bigger laketrout with Christmas caramel spoon, north troll, 2.3 sog, again in 36 fow. Waves were 1/2 ft to 2ft lazy rollers, temp 36.9. Pulled thinfish and other crankbaits with no results.

  4. Stopped by PS at 4:30pm, launch looks great, no ice, no weeds. Watch the waves, they might be bigger than forecasted, enjoy the day. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  5. Unfortunately not. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  6. PS & HOLLAND launch update One launch is in at both places.
  7. I saw two trailers in the lot when I drove by today. What kind of boat were you in? Were you able to pull boards? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  8. That's great. I'm amazed considering the ice conditions. He must have got out early before the channel closed up. Nice catch! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  9. Stopped by both launches, Holland still has alot of ice on the lake. Channel fishing probably would work, but not so well with a boat. Port Sheldon had boats launching without ramps, several boats on Pigeon Lake which was open to Michigan, but once on the big lake your rod eyelets would freeze up and boards couldn't be pulled because of the thin ice still on the lake. You could get out but it was challenging with your equipment. Some that stayed at the channel were catching pike. Keep that warm weather coming, though the long range forecast might indicate some snow showing up again.
  10. I agree. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  11. Ice at Port Sheldon lake was completely blocking the entrance to Lake Michigan, probably pass the no wake zone into Sheldon and a little steep, like you may have seen at beach area buildups. Launch area ice was maybe an inch or less, but after this coming weekend warm up, I suspect they might both be gone. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  12. Grand Haven & Port Sheldon update Grand Haven River and launch area are free of ice out to the lake. Port Sheldon has skim ice and blocked entrance to lake. Won't be long now! Holland is still blocked.
  13. That's what I use. I cut the length to the fly size, pull it through the center and bury the hooks in the end. I then cut 4 slots on the end, wrap the leader around the insulation and trap the end of the leader in the slots, works great. Store it in a piano box. Usually get 12-15 in box. Label the box section with fly name. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  14. Holland & Port Sheldon ramps 12-15-16 Looks like we maybe froze in. Time to grab the ice fishing stuff?
  15. All ramps have been pulled at Holland also. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  16. Weather is tough, going out is almost a last minute decision. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  17. Two of the three ramps have been pulled at both launches. Green weed growth at Sheldon not as deep now.
  18. I do the same as nailer and then blow out the heads thru the water flushing cooling passages with my air compressor when I get home. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  19. Thanks, only second one I ever caught. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  20. Got a break in the weather again. Out I go. 5 for 8, 3 kings, 2 laketrout (released). Lost nice steelhead in the netting process also. One of the laketrouts was approx 16#, other was 3#. Kings were 3-4# each. Two Kings came on DR with flee-for-all spoon, east troll in 147-150 fow, ball depth 127 & 131, speed 2.8, temp 50 & 48.1 other on 270 copper with mixed veggie, going east also. Laketrout(16#) came on JJ McMuffin spoon and 240 cu. Other on DR with lemonberry spoon. Fished moved out a little further. Best depth was 145-170. Water was warmer (big lake) 51.9 top , 48.1 bottom. Macatawa was 44 degrees. Waves calm to 2ft. Most marks were in the bottom 25 ft. Mike Murphy joined me today. Other half of the brothers that helped me, when my truck broke ( bad shifting cpu module). Great to be on the water again. Outside temp was 34.
  21. I heard it's coming. As long as those docks stay in and the wind permits, I'll be fishing. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  22. 8 for 10, 3 keeper steelhead ( one was 10.1#) others between 6-8# and 1 king. 1 throwback king and 3 laketrout. One laketrout was probably 10-12#. But all laketrout fishing was over Oct 31 so we released them. Best depth was155-160 fow. One on DR, the rest on slide diver, 170 cu and 270 cu. Water temp 54.4 top and 53.6 bottom. Trolls were east. Spoons used: Craigs flounder, hud, yellow nbk and blueberry. Extremely thick fog from the launch to pass the harbor entrance. It came and went while we fished on the open lake also. Waves calm to 3ft on and off. Pat Murphy joined me today and it was my way of paying him and his brother for helping me out when my truck broke to pull my boat home. The fish were still biting when we had to leave. Plenty out there!
  23. Great pics! What was your coldest temp at ball depth? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  24. Fished for a just a couple of hours during same time frame. Marked very few fish. The waves made trolling not much fun. Wave report way was off. Called it a day and headed in. Parking was all fouled up with cars parked in boat trailer spaces. Called DNR holland office several days before, they could have cared less. There were alot of boaters, jet skiers, small sailboats and other fishermen that were very disturbed where to park their trailers. DNR has closed the big parking lot days earlier. 25. Shot out in my 16-1/2 ft, crestliner "Littleboat" today looking for some brown trout. I made a single pass from the bubbler to south of the piers. The waves were 3 footers to begin with then turned into 4 footers with chop. That 1ft forecast was not even close. Needless to say I had to pack it up and head back in.
