do you have the yellow wire powered on the other boat? i would first try to match up the wiring to what you know works on the other boat. if the LED lights are powered from the same fuse block you may have a ground issue going into the fuse block. most LED lights have very little draw and if they aren't getting enough there is no way your sonar is. could wire direct to battery for testing purposes. someone with a lowrance setup will know more about the dual power question.

Wtb rod holder/downrigger tracks
rbradley replied to jmohunts's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
I have I think 4 pieces of 6" and at least 1 12" of berts track, polished, new. -
your problem sounds like a week ground to me, but I'm not an expert Ive rewired all three of the boats I have owned, here is what I have found works best. I like the blue sea systems fuse blocks, mount one in the back, if needed one in front. the auto style blade fuses are easy to find and having them all in one place is nice for troubleshooting power and ground to stern fuse block is big gauge, I'm running canon mag 20 downriggers which have a 30 amp fuse each so I have 4 gauge running from my battery switch to the fuse block. if you don't have a battery switch it can be ran directly to the battery. those fuse blocks can handle 120 amp total draw, so you would be able to run your spreaders from it as well, check the current draw rating on them and run appropriate gauge wire from there. I have 10 gauge to mine, but that's actually a little overkill as mine are a low draw LED style. I have another of the fuse blocks ran up front with 8 gauge and run my gps, vhf, 12v plug, and auto pilot from that one. still have a dedicated line directly to battery for the sonar, and can isolate that battery with the switch for when I'm looking for max clarity on the sonar (only really worry about that when looking for perch on the bottom or in very deep water)

looked up an online manual for the vhf that's in my boat (uniden oceanus dsc) and found that it does have the ability to relay gps coordinates. I found the wiring diagram and that all makes sense, what I don't know how to do it set it up. do I need to register with the FCC? if so how much does it cost? anything else special I have to do?

good to hear! always like to check it when I wake up, has saved me from getting around only to make it to the end of the piers and find something completely different than was forecasted.

Anyone with kicker on an aluminum cuddy?
rbradley replied to rbradley's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
I planned on an ez steer but was more concerned about starting, shifting, and lifting the kicker. -
Outboard Mechanic Needed - Grand Rapids Area
rbradley replied to Hockey390's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
Offshore upgrades in hudsonville has done some good work for me. Price is right too -
still struggling to make a decision on adding a kicker to my GLS 220 (basically same as 22' islander) it's 24 years old now and starting to get concerned about the main pooping out on me while out on the water (although it seems to be running great) I'm pretty short and I'm not sure I could reach a tiller controlled motor on an adjustable mount when it's in the down position, just looking for 1st hand experience if there's any out there.

not sure if this is what your looking for but this is the print I made up for the P70R controller. the Wheel pilot itself doesn't take up much room, a 6" rectangle centered on the steering shaft would give you plenty of clearance. If you need a print of the drive let me know and I should be able to whip one up, Raymarine has cad files of a lot of there products online.

Connecting HDS7 to SPX-5 Autopilot
rbradley replied to BenLubbs's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
do you have the nmea 0187 turned on in your gps settings? I know I had to turn mine on, but haven't turned the controller on to see if its working. -

Found a couple really nice older honda 4 stroke 7.5hp kickers, kicker is going on 22' aluminum cuddy with 3.0L. is 7.5hp enough if it's propped correctly?
-
got it stuck in my head yesterday that I should have a kicker motor on the boat, more of a safety thing than anything. I am also realizing I have no idea what to look for in 1. It is for my 22' sea nymph great lakes special, thinking somewhere between 7-10 hp. What length shaft do I need? any mounts that are better than others? thinking I'll try to find an older 4 stroker so I don't need another tank, found 1 with a 6amp charger, is that enough to keep things going? I have dual batteries on the boat and could upsize them some to help with onboard power.
-
Boat needs new battery's, 7 years old now. It runs twin dual purpose size 24 now, questions for the experts. Is it worth paying a little extra for deep cycle. Do you isolate your sonar from the main battery? Do you run 1 starting and 1 dual or just 2 duals? Thanks

Connecting HDS7 to SPX-5 Autopilot
rbradley replied to BenLubbs's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
according to raymarine this is not true, if you haven't I would give it a try and see if it works. -
thanks for the feedback guys, I've been able to troll a mile without touching the wheel before so hopefully it will perform well without it.

Ya I'm thinking I'll try without this year, when I looked at the website it didn't show the Evo coming with a rudder reference...maybe you got lucky. Don't think I can throw the 600 extra dollars at the new model right now,
-
Yes mine has the compass still, I didn't realize they were shipping the new evo with it, wish I woulda known that I would have just bought the new one I'd appreciate the help, I'm north of Zeeland, Baldwin and 96 area
-
Is it needed on an spx-5r (newer sportpilot)? was told when I bought it that it wasn't needed, now I hear a lot of guys adding it at install. anyone have input?
-
any suggestions to someone about to put in the same auto pilot? I haven't bought the rudder reference yet, and was somewhat planning on trying without it for a year. what made you decide to buy it?
-
Thanks! Looks like I lucked out as mine is on a normal spool. Thanks for the info

Anyone know how to tell the difference between the problem wire and the updated good stuff
