  1. Mike, I would love to test some new products. I fish The straits area, and primarily Lake Huron. It will be a couple months before I get boat in water, but I am interested. Thanks for any consideration. Blaze
  2. Thanks guys, that is exactly the kind of info I have been looking for to run meat rigs. I plan to try it this summer in lake Huron. It sounds like the slower speeds for running meat would blend well with j-plugs also, is that correct?

    BBQ'd Salmon

Tom, That's looks, and sounds really good. I'm going to have to try your recipe soon! Thanks for posting it.
  4. Jim, I like it , and have been wanting to do the same thing myself. Looks good!
  5. BW, I will see you at Birch Run! Thanks!
  6. I would like to try meat rigs this summer on Lake Huron. What is your favorite meat rig ,and flasher combinations. Please include distance from flasher/ dodgers to meat rig. Any other Information you can provide will help, such as trolling speed. I use gps for speed determination. Thank you.
  7. Yes I will be there, and thanks for answering all my questions BW. I'll be attending the seminar as well on Sunday. Looking forward to stopping by your booth.
  8. I have registered for the seminar in Birch Run. Looking forward to the seminar. I've read Keatings Books and learned a lot from the books.
  9. From one Scotsman to another....welcome to the site! I'm new to site also, it truly is a great site.
  10. Just wanted to say " Thank you" to Arbogaster for the reel fill calculator.
  11. Nice post Sherman....tough to follow up on that one, there's some experience right there....I wanted add that another book for mean machine is the " precision trolling...big water edition 2".....I think it's a must for big water fishing....
  12. I have read "Keating on Kings" , and " Great Lakes Salmon and Trout Fishing" both are very good books. Also Dan Keating puts on salmon seminars, there are a few this winter yet...if you can attend one it would be very informative. There's one coming up in March at BirchRun expo center....good luck.
  13. I made the "salmon chowda" for Super Bowl Sunday! Was awesome! Was even better the second day , going to try it with smoked salmon next time. Thanks for the recipe MuskyBob! It's a keeper!
  14. As previously stated, it's not the snowmobile it's the operator....and when alcohol/ and or speed is factored into the equation the problems occur.
  15. From one new member to another....Welcome I'm sure you will enjoy this site as I do...seems like a great group.
  16. For the snowmobilers on this site please use good common sense when on your sled. Alcohol and snowmobiles do not mix. You do not have to travel as fast as your sled will go either. Have fun but don't become a statistic. There has already been several serious accidents, some fatal. Don't think that it can't happen to you. Take along a GPS, cell phone, first aide kit, and a blanket. Hypothermia is a real concern with an injured person on the trail. Remember, it will take more time to find you, and get rescue equipment to you if you do not know exactly where you are. There will be sheriff deputies, local police and conservation officers on the trails. Ride safe, have fun, and use some common sense.

    Lake Trout

The absolute best smoked fish I ever had was smoked lake trout. Many years ago I stopped by a friends house and he was just taking some smoked lake trout out of smoker....it was still warm and without a doubt the best I ever ate. Your recipes reminded me of that day. I also heard of a good LT recipe where you bake it in oven with favorite seasonings and mayo on fillet.I havent tried it yet but I thought it did sound good.
  18. The Italian dressing marinade sounds good, never thought of using it on salmon. Have used it many times with venison though. We usually do our salmon in similar fashion, soak in milk, then dip in beaten eggs, then seasoning of choice and deep fry. M'm sounds good, might have to set out some salmon to thaw for dinner! Thanks for tip!
  19. Bob, I just your short story about my work partners first two (2) salmon. I can attest to your story as I was there. You truly did make his day, and mine, since I took him up there to catch some salmon. He still talks about the experience. I also bought him his first fishing rod and reel for Christmas. You can bet we will both be up there this summer and show him how it's done from the boat. Yes he has completed two tours in Iraq as a battalion commander. Chris is a captain in the Army National Guard. After fishing,I cleaned his fish, and took him to the truck stop for breakfast. I think/ know that he had a good day. Thanks again Bob!
  20. Work, a little predator hunting, work, move snow, work, get with steeliebob for steelhead fishing, prep fishing gear for next season, sleep, learn as much as I can in great lakes fisherman!....that about covers it!.....oh and watch outdoor programs when I can! List is not necessarily in order!
  21. I was wondering the same thing about the coated fluorocarbon leader....I had doubts about it so didn't buy it. Good question, thanks!
  22. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! Yes, my wife found this site for me....and she keeps "dip" in her purse.....in case I run out!....Now that's what I call keeper! Thanks again for the welcome!
  23. Hi everyone, My wife found this site for me, and it looks like great site...a lot of good information. I have been fishing all my life, but only got into salmon fishing a few years ago....went out on a friends boat caught a couple salmon and the rest is history....I just can't get enough of it. Jumped into it with both feet, bought a used 21' cuddy, downriggers, and a ton of tackle, rods, reels, etc....little did I know how expensive it was going to be! But we love every minute of it and spend a lot of time on the water, fishing mostly out of St. Ignace and Cheboygan. Looking forward to learning from everyone and offering what I can......I hope that everyone has a safe and prosperous new year!.....oh by the way....boats name is " Aft'r limits"
  24. Bob, good story...I know the "company" you are referring to. It reminds me of a comment made to me one morning by one of my bosses.....he followed me into the parking lot one morning .....and I said good morning to him after getting out of our respective vehicles.....his comment to me was " nice ride"....my " ride" was an old '94 Saturn....which I use for transportation to and from work..... Since I have to buy my own fuel.....his " ride" was a newer automobile provided by the "company".....oh and his fuel is provided......I just said to him....."same to you"....and walked into the office.....I just consider the source.
  25. I too read "Keating on Kings" and had to try the riggers with 12lb test. I spooled two reels with the 12lb line but have not caught anything on the light line yet. I run clean spoons on them but as of yet no fish on the light line. I ran them last year, maybe this year will be the year. I will continue to run them, as I think they will catch fish. Just my two cents worth. Not much help I know......
