  1. Grundens...hands down. Wore them commercial fishing on Bristol Bay and still have a set that is 8 years old and still don't have any holes or anything and I use them a lot. Keep them crumbled up in any of a handful of boats we use and stuffed in the tool box of the truck when not on the boat. I haven't been easy on them and they are still around so when its time I will get another set. My girlfriend bought a set of the Grundens Gage series and really likes them as well. I've got two gander mountain breathable rain jackets and if its really raining you get wet. If you are going to be out when its really raining hard make sure you get a jacket that has neoprene cuffs. Really nice for raising your arms up to set lines and things and not having a bunch of water run down your arm getting you soaked.
  2. I ordered a set of vertical triple trees from them after calling a couple times to ask some questions. Someone always answered the phone and was more than happy to answer any questions I had even though they were probably asked a thousand times. I received my trees this week and I am very impressed, very sturdy and well built for a good price. If I need any other rod holders for the boat they will definitely be from Fish On Sports.
  3. I just replaced some parts on a 47H and did a drag upgrade on a daiwa great lakes 47LC too. I got my parts from Tuna Tom's and got them quickly. If the 47H is like the great lakes 47 it doesn't take long and its pretty straight forward. There are also reel schematics on his website for the 47H if you have questions on how to get things apart or put them back together.
  4. I'm located in Iron County and work on the water most days doing environmental consulting so I also get to travel a lot. Let me know about where you are thinking and we will go from there.
  5. I ordered the parts I needed for a few reels last week and they came in quick from Tuna Tom's. I got 2 of the daiwa reels done today watching football, one more okuma to go and I will be all set for the spring.
  6. I run the otter boats all year without any issues but most of the time there is only 2 of us in the boat so 6 lines here in MI. With only 6 lines I never really have to worry about juggling lines to always keep my shallow lines to the outside. I will say that I have not had an issue with my hook up ratio and it is a blast fishing fish off the mast. Once you get the loop on the otter boat that you connect your mainline to in the right spot they pull hard and way out to the sides but it all comes down to finding that spot.
  7. Appreciate the info. Looked at some again today at Gander Mountain which is about 2 hours from home. Guy at the desk was helpful but just wasn't very experienced with the units I was interested in.
  8. I appreciate the response. I see that you said you have installed dozens of them, are the humminbirds relatively easy to install? easier or harder than some of the other out there? Thanks
  9. I'm on the west end of the UP and can only think of one lake stocked with browns, I wish there were more. I hear of a few browns taken here and there on Superior as kind of a bonus fish from time to time when fishing in the spring or fall but nothing like my friends from WI used to do on Lake Michigan.
  10. I work in aquatic invasive species and I am considering buying a new depth finder with some type of sonar to help me detect aquatic vegetation while on the water. I've been looking pretty seriously at the Humminbird 858 with just the down imaging. I'm hoping that with this new unit I may be able to see 2-4 inch tall vegetation in up to 20-30 fow. My question is are there other brands out there that have a much better structure scan or other sonar that I should be looking at for my line of work? I'm not very up to date on these electronics and I've don't a lot of research online and I'm just as confused as I was when I started. I'm sure any of these newer models would be great locators for just fishing. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks
