Set lines in 80 fow and began trolling SW. First hit was a steelhead in 120 fow on rigger 60 down on double orange crush. About an hour later 240 copper with Veggie Delight took a rip but went slack once the board came off. Things were looking bleak for the morning until we found the rookie had a banana on board. Deep sixed the banana and a short time later took a triple in 140 fow on what I'm presuming were 3 steelhead, but only landed 2 of the 3. Rookie had one on dipsey that hit like a king but never got close enough to see for certain. Don't know how he managed it but his fish spit the hook after it was played out on the surface. The dipsey was braid 200 back on 3 with UV Crush Spindoctor and Big Weenie Last Brunch Fly. The other 2 came on the 240 copper again and braid dipsey set to 3 225 back with green/glow Spindoctor with Rapture Grand Illusion fly.

Kew/Algoma Salmon, What am I doing wrong?
Dr Hook replied to GBTyeeII's topic in Salmon Pro's Connection
As above, you may need to be running in that 2 - 2.5 range. I'll usually run at least one Spindoctor/fly off my dipsy's this time of year. One more thing, you may be running your dipsy's a bit low at 4 AM if they're out 200-225. I'll usually start them out 100-125 and lengthen my distance as it gets brighter. -

1 for 1 so far 10 lb King at 5:30 AM in 60 fow rigger 20 down double orange crush. Lots of marks at that depth then they scattered. Figured they might have gone deeper so trolled out to 120 fow, but no more marks or bites. Temp was 53 in surface and 44 on probe 30 feet down in at 60. By the time we got out to 120, temps on surface and 40 ft down were equal. Coast watch shows 60 deg surface temps around 220-250 fow. Would like to go out there but need to be in cell phone range Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app

4 for 4 today, early bite was key. Took 2 kings and a laker from 5:30-6:30 AM in 100-110 fow, then nothing til another laker in 165 fow at 11 AM. Both lakers hit Yellowtail on rigger 60 down. Kings came on blue dolphin on rigger 50 down and full core with double orange crush. Headed strait out of Holland on 270 course, then set lines in 85 fow and trolled on 225 heading. After first hit began zigzag between 100 and 110 fow until we got south of sliders. Trolled NW out to 200 fow, by that time it was getting later in morning and we were even with channel again, so we trolled in on due east heading when last laker hit. Trolling speed was 2.1 - 2.4 at ball. Considering it was June fishing, I'll take 4 fish.

Slow fishing out there today. Got spoiled by all the coho in the past month. 2 for 3. small king and 7 lb steelhead. King came in 120 fow, steelhead and lost fish both in 140 fow. 5 color with SS Jerry Lee went twice and took steelhead. Braid dipsey on 3 165 back with blue dolphin spoon took the king. Set lines in 100 fow and fished mainly 120 -150 fow. Marked a fair amount but just couldn't get them to go.

Might be the only way to find out is to try, though my gut says no. Only problem with trying is that it works too good. No guarantee you can get more Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app

Thought about fishing in a little closer today but didn't see any marks so I set lines in 170 fow on a 240 troll. First hit came in 205, and all hits came 205 -225 fow. All came mainly on south troll and turn to west. No hits on north or east trolls. Trolling speed 2.3-2.7 at the ball. Temps were 54 on top and 43 150 feet down. Finished 7-10 with 4 coho, 2 steelies and first king in over 1 month. King came on 7 color with Silver Streak magnum Hot Lobster. 5 color with Silver Streak Jerry Lee took 3 coho and one steelie. Braid dipsey 90 back with UV Crush/Crush Spindoctor and Big Weenie Last Brunch Fly. Took coho off rigger 45 down with Stinger Monsoon. One miss came on rigger 60 down with magnum Silver Streak blue dolphin, and the other 2 on rigger 150 down with magnum Moonshine blue flounder pounder. Just couldn't get the slack reeled in quick enough. See y'all out there this weekend weather permitting.

Apparently my electronics are holding me back. My display puked out last weekend, but still decided to go out today with 3 man crew. All I had working for me today was free, bare bones GPS app on my smart phone, Fishhawk, and autopilot. Smart phone app basicly gave me coordinates. No tracks, one waypoint only. Left the pier heads and throttled up to about 20 mph and ran for about 18 min. Guesstimated I was about 6 mi out in 170-180 fow range so set lines. Had 2 coho in the boat before all lines set. We were sitting at about 3 for 5 at 9AM when the fire drill hit, 6 rods went off in the space of about 15 min or so. The most we had on at one time was a triple, but as soon as we got one in the boat another rod would go off. We managed to boat 5 in all the mess. Finally got all lines in, when the sun came out and things slowed down. I had been running a rigger 150 down all morning with the others at 65, 60 and 55 down. Once the rigger 150 down finally went off, we dropped the other riggers to 85, 80 and 65 down and things started to pick up again. The 80 and 85 riggers began going off and we boated 3 more fish. Final tally was 12 for 16, all coho. Direction of troll didn't seem to matter and we trolled a bit slower today after first 2 hits in the early morning came with speed at the ball of 1.7 and 1.8. We trolled at 2.4 - 2.7 once all lines were set. Ran 150 copper, 7 color and 5 color in addition to 2 braid dipseys and 4 riggers. The only rod that didn't take a hit was Spindoctor/fly on dipsey. Ran mainly magnum spoons on riggers and copper, standard spoons on cores and one rigger. Standard and Magnum blue dolphins on riggers took most of the hits. Once I got home I was able to check my longitudes on a topographical map. We apparently trolled from 170 - 250 fow with best action in 220-230 range. And, as best I could tell, we were fishing pretty much straight out of the channel all morning.

Nice easy half foot rollers to start, the wind changed from north to south, and brought 1-2 chop Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman mobile app -
Took mom out fishing this morning. I'd say it was for Mother's Day but she goes quite a bit. Coho are still out there. 8 for 10 all coho. Set lines in 180 fow and began west troll. Took first hit at 215. All hits came between 210-230 fow. Any direction of troll but north, speed at ball was 2.7-3.1 Sexy blue shad on 225 copper took one hit as did rigger 150' down with blue shark. Braid dipsey 165 back with UV Crush Spindoctor and Big Weenie Last Brunch fly took 3 hits. 150 copper with Hot Lobster took 3 hits, Rigger 67 down with blue dolphin took 2 hits.
