  1. Joe, it is worth a try. You may need to soak them several times and go heavy on the baking soda!
  2. Shane, Good Job! If you can stomach it and like to fish for big cats... keep the lamprey for cut bait. That is some of the best catfish bait you will ever us.
  3. Bill, That is not a bad plan! I made 5 trips out last year before I got the down riggers and brackets on her. Dipseys are way more stealthy than riggers. Plus you can run two per side. Good Luck and hoping to see some pics when its done!
  4. Too Funny! I bet your 11 year old is not going to forget that one!
  5. Chris, I was thinking the same thing .... 87 I graduated that year too, I started scratching my head and counting on my fingers. Ken, I was thinking the same thing.... No more drinking and posting.
  6. I hope you did not try and save that container.
  7. Just in case you leave the tuna in your cut bait plug, here is a helpful hint so do not have to toss out the plug. I know no one ever forgets to clean up the cut bait plugs on purpose. I guess learned the smelly way! Tuna gets to stinking bad especially when you leave it in your live well where it is alway damp! Just in case you are just as forgetful as I am. The bad scent gets imbedded into the plastic of the body! You should not run the plug all stinky, you never want to be the stinky kid! No need to toss em out, just descent them. This will not harm the finish or the line. Here is the fix. First clean out the remaining tuna, it will be dry but extremely ripe. Next fill a large glass with hot tap water, 120 degree is fine. Now add a 1/3 to 1/2 cup of baking soda. Mix and then drop in the cut bait plug. Make sure you drop in the rubber tubing band and the leader. Let it soak overnight. Presto no more stinko. Works on meat rigs too! Remember those salmon are like blood hound with fins!
  8. Josh, Can you help push the cohos up north a little more? I am itching to get out there. Thanks for the report.
  9. Ok no roller rod needed but you can not use any old rod can you? Won't the copper cut into the guides?

  12. SHAWANO, Wis. - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has tagged a 125-year-old sturgeon that's bigger than a linebacker. Officials found the over 7-foot-3-inch long, 240-pound female on the Wolf River near Shawano on Tuesday. DNR sturgeon biologist Ron Bruch says she's the largest they've tagged on the Lake Winnebago system since they started the tagging program in 1950s. She would have weighed about 30 pounds more, but she already laid some eggs. Coninued at ... KARE 11 NEWS LINK Just think this thing was 25 years old when the titanic sunk!
  13. Jay, Thank you for the info! Welcome to GLF!
  14. Be very generous with your planning. Give yourself room for future equipment add ons! That way you do not have to go back and rewire.
  15. Sounds like a great handle for GLF !
  16. Does anyone know if the Wisconson Seagrant is "on board" with the Michigan Seagrant's plan? Are they the same group?

  19. "There are no internationally recognized standards for hooks and thus size is somewhat inconsistent between manufacturers. However, within a manufacturer's range of hooks, hook sizes are consistent." ..... Wikipedia Now that is just ducky! So are we all talking about the same size hook?
  20. I guess it is your preference on single or treble. I prefer the single hook set up. I tried a 3/0 single and I lost several fish right in a row after 30 seconds of fighting. The next trip out I had switched to a 5/0 tru turn and I did not miss a fish. I am not advocating the tru turn so much as the bigger size. That was the only style hook that F&F had in that size. Moral of the story, do not be afraid of going big with the hook. One other trick is to add a bead ahead of the hook swivel, between the body and swivel. This keeps the body from binding up on the hook and swivel. It also helps stage the hook more rearward instead of being right tight to the body. Hope this helps!
  21. "Likely to find suitable habitat throughout Lake Erie and in all Great Lakes waters at depths less than 60 meters" Source: Gobie fact sheet Its an ok read, nothing that is new or riviting.
